There a nice little calculator to play to see how your adjustment will affect our future energy requirements.

we are swapping one potentially catastrophic problem for another. There are other solutions now but not the financial motivation to push them.

Eleusis · 24/05/2007 13:47

Like what, ruty? I really don't think we have another solution that is financially and technically viable right now.

What scares me post is Russia's growing political power, but that might change a bit with the departure of Schroeder and Chirac and arrival of Merkel (sp?) and Sarkozy. Will also be interesting to see how Brown fits into the trio.

It's a bit off topic, but I thought this was quite interesting.

if the world powers brought in sanctions and laws making people do green things - eg - everyone HAS to have a wind turbine on their house by 3 years time or something, I reckon we'd solve soooo many probs.
There are loads of simple stuff that millions of people could do (and be made to do by law - businesses included) that would greatly reduce many problems.
I know I'm living in a rose-tinted world but I don't want to end up in a bunker with only Spam to live off until I die!

The Sustainable Development Commission, the government?s own advisory body on sustainable development issues, concluded last year [after much investigation] that nuclear power is not the answer to the UK?s climate change problems. But the government decided to ignore them. I wonder why? There is so much more we could do now but don't. Because it is not politically attractive and because we want to maintain our current lifestyles and because the other options are not being pursued because the nuclear industry is very profitable and very powerful.

I sent a big email discussing domestic wind turbines to Persimmon Homes and almost every regional manager wrote me a reply, explaining what thier region is doing to help the environment in their house building projects. I was very impressed at how far they're going, however their main point revolved around the government making it hard for the average house owner through planning laws (which luckily now are being changed).

I even told them my idea about having the blades of the turbines in different patterns (boden style dots etc) and think loads of people would want one and it would become a race to get the best designer turbine for your roof!
