Yulia sending you virtual >>>hugs

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 10/04/2018 09:13

I would like to see the UK and Russia cooperate for once and reunite Yulia and her pet dog Noir, currently in kennels.

Is a visa for Noir too much to ask?

peridito · 10/04/2018 10:45

I didn't realise there was a dog .If ever there was a time to be with your dog this is it for Yulia .So I do hope she can be reunited .

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/04/2018 10:51

I can imagine the logistical challenges that would come with removing a dog from Russia (after appropriate vaccinations), ensuring it posed no risk to Yulia (by being contaminated with something biological that could pose a risk), then managing to get it to Yulias safe place without being tracked or traced.

Then wherever she ends up in the world, a Russian lady turning up with a dog (that couldn't exactly have a makeover, to make it unrecognisable) would be noticed.

peridito · 10/04/2018 10:59

Ah ,I'd assumed kennels here .Stupid of me ,wouldn't need visa if here !

But still OYBK maybe not quite as difficult as you describe .

After all Yulia's been discharged and relocated under the radar .

EmilyDickinson · 10/04/2018 11:14

I would have thought that as the British government (rather than Yulia) are the Ines saying that Russia has made an attempt on her life, claims by asylum here should be straightforward.

I wonder if the government have any idea who planted the poison? They must have looked at Russians arriving in the U.K. before the poisoning and leaving very promptly afterwards.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/04/2018 11:17

Yulia has been relocated Peridito, but her dog is in Russian hands at present, so it's a different matter. I'm not saying it's impossible, I have no idea whether it is or isn't, but I can imagine there would be significant concerns.

" If, it was a nerve agent, there's your answer. Nothing will depend on body mass, age, metabolism etc."

If you keel over immediately, that's true. When there is a delay, that is not necessarily true. Which is why it is an interesting point.

GertieGitana · 10/04/2018 12:34

They can't go back to the house, the 'assasin(s)' might still be out there.

They can't go back to the house full stop, because of contamination. Workers at one of the shops close to the bench have been told there will be a large excavation at the site of the bench, as part of the decontamination process. I shall be interested to see what happens with the various sites over the next few months. I still hold that the people of Salisbury are being presented with an extremely sanitised and minimised version of the risk of contamination.

this is an interesting article - in particular of VX:

Its destructive power became clear on March 13, 1968. Somehow, the substance escaped from the army’s chemical weapons proving ground and killed over 3,000 sheep grazing 27 miles away in the Skull Valley area of Utah.

This was denied, denied, denied.............until it was admitted decades later.

We are talking Nerve Agents here, not the common cold...........

(NC btw)

Link to the old thread, BTW, in case anyone wants any references from it:

The LD50 of any drug/toxin depends on size and probably condition of the victim.

It's just that with these agents we may be talking infinitesimally small amounts.

I can't believe she has voluntarily gone into hiding and put herself in a position where she can not visit or keep an eye on her dear father.

It's looking more like we really are conducting a state kidnapping of a Russian citizen.

Oh dear.

BestIsWest · 10/04/2018 16:51

Just placemarking

EmilyDickinson · 10/04/2018 17:21

If someone had tried to kill me and I thought they might do so again (it took three attempts to kill Litvinenko I think) I'd be in hiding too. I think that the Russian government are being very disengenuous.

GertieGitana · 10/04/2018 17:25

I don't suppose Yulia Skripal is in a fit state to make any decisions about anything at the moment. She has been discharged from hospital, and, as she can't look after herself at home, like many people discharged from hospital, arrangements have had to be made.

They can't really keep her in hospital indefinitely if she is fit to leave. Also someone has tried to kill her, and it will be much easier to protect her from further attacks in an undisclosed location, than in a place visited by hundreds of members of the public every day, surely?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/04/2018 17:48

You can't believe that Yulia would make a different choice from you Counterpoint? I suspect most people would choose to go into hiding in these circumstances. It must be desperately hard for her though.

"Intelligence officials at MI6 have had discussions with their counterparts in the CIA about resettling the victims of the Salisbury poisoning. “They will be offered new identities,” a senior Whitehall figure said."

"Despite their recovery, senior officials said life for the Skripals “would likely never be the same again” and that they could have injuries that would “require ongoing medical care”. "

"Security sources said Britain would want to ensure their safety by relocating them with one of the “five eyes” countries, the intelligence-sharing partnership that also includes America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. "

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/sergei-and-yulia-skripal-offered-new-identities-with-cia-help-ztf896rnj The article is much bigger and behind a paywall. 2 free views a month, handy!

What about this mysterious, jeep loving, boyfriend of Yulia's with the mother who works for Russian security services? Press are suggesting he hasnt been in touch with her at all and has gone to ground locally.

counterpoint · 10/04/2018 19:51

I'm worried that Boris might just want to shut her up now. He wouldn't want her explaining how it was shellfish food poisoning all along.

"........The Russian embassy in London congratulated Ms Skripal on her recovery, but said it needed “urgent proof that what is being done to her is done on her own free will”.

It went on to say the “secret resettlement of Mr and Ms Skripal, barred from any contact with their family will be seen as an abduction or at least as their forced isolation"........"
Telegraph

How much has this cost the country? Never mind, only Brexit to have been getting on with...

SallysTeaPot · 10/04/2018 19:51

Place marking

EmilyDickinson · 10/04/2018 20:43

It's not shellfish food poisoning. I think the medical staff at Salisbury hospital would be able to spot a case of food poisoning, don't you?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 10/04/2018 20:59

The Russians would say that of course. They will want Yulia back.

The more that Russia take a stance of tweeting ridiculous things about food poisoning, the more guilty they look of course. Implausible deniability seems to be their modus operandi once more.

I'm curious about people that accept their stance - one can feel ashamed and angry about Boris et al representing us, without taking the Russian stance.

OP posts:
pestilentialboundary · 10/04/2018 21:57

So what have the Russians gained from this?

Or has someone else gained more?

counterpoint · 10/04/2018 22:09

The doctors at the Salisbury hospital have never said the Skripals were suffering from Novichock poisoning.

counterpoint · 10/04/2018 22:11

Britain is on the wrong side. Our government are puppets of the Saudis.
