Whats that supposed to mean exactly?!
Over 6,000 Iraqi civilians dead. Does that make us the greatest?

Haahaahaa.

He must have stolen that line from Bush's speech writers.

ipanemagirl · 10/05/2007 12:55

Absolutely. And what does it mean exactly? The greastest in what respect? In his own divine opinion? "And we know it in our hearts..." What does he know about what we know "in our hearts"?
Tosspottery

tosspottery what a great description.

expatinscotland · 10/05/2007 12:57

I know it's not funny, but that line makes me think of Borat and his 'national' anthem, 'Kazygstan is the greatest country in the world, all the other countries are run by little girls.'

ipanemagirl · 10/05/2007 13:04

At the end he says "Good Luck"
Do you think he means "Because you've got nought but Gordon now!"

OP posts:
paulaplumpbottom · 10/05/2007 13:11

I thought the "Good Luck" line was hysterical. You've all got Gordie now!!!! Ha Ha Ha

GameGirly · 10/05/2007 13:16

It's all relative, I suppose. We are lucky in this country: most of us (although by no means all) have roofs over our heads, clean water, decent food, education, accessible medical attention, etc.
I wouldn't want his job. No PM is every going to get it all right and please everyone, and everyone has different priorities anyway. It's a thankless task. I can't pretend I'm worse off than I was 10 years ago, but that's only because my salary has increased sufficiently to cover the huge rises in the cost of living. I'm one of the lucky ones. And I've never voted Labour.

ipanemagirl · 10/05/2007 16:28

Does anyone else thinks this is a fairly ridiculous thing to say?

OP posts:
GameGirly · 10/05/2007 16:30

What's so ridiculous about that?!
What have I started?!?!?
(Damn, have to log off now).

OrmIrian · 10/05/2007 16:31

How about "Good luck you poor suckers...I'm off to live somewhere else"?

GameGirly · 10/05/2007 16:32

Oh, you mean the good luck comment. Doh.
(Must dash ...)

doggiesayswoof · 10/05/2007 16:33

Reedeeculous yes.

He has to say something big and use lots of superlatives. He is not good at doing the big memorable quote thing (apart from the People's Princess and that was Alistair Campbell anyway)

twinsetandpearls · 10/05/2007 16:33

have only heard part of the speach as I have been dozing all day but we are lucky to love here. I can think of lots of other places I would not like to live. We do have our faults of course but I still love our country.

Eleusis · 10/05/2007 16:34

So, when does Grodon have to call a general election? And when is he expected to call it?

Oh PLEASE GOD, let us all say Prime Minister Cameron soon.

bobsmum · 10/05/2007 16:35

I heard that on the radio and could visualise a little floating around the airwaves

edam · 10/05/2007 16:35

Loved the bid for sympathy when he was saying, I may not have got everything right, but I was trying my best. And then said he was right to intervene on Iraq!

doggiesayswoof · 10/05/2007 16:36

BTW, it's over 60,000 Iraqi civilians dead now - not 6,000

doggiesayswoof · 10/05/2007 16:36

Ain't gonna happen this time round Eleusis

Eleusis · 10/05/2007 16:42

ACtually, I just want Brown out and I'd take just about anyone in his place.

doggiesayswoof · 10/05/2007 16:43

I'm with you there E. Brown = War Criminal #2 imvho.

Upwind · 10/05/2007 16:43

Sickeningly the last serious estimites I read, from a year ago, estimated over 600,000 deaths in Iraq as a consequence of the war, mostly due to gunfire.

In the past year that number has undoubtedly increased since :-(

Upwind · 10/05/2007 16:44

estimates

doggiesayswoof · 10/05/2007 16:47

Thanks for link Upwind - I'd heard about the lancet study but hadn't seen it. I normally look at iraq body count

lissielou · 10/05/2007 16:48

has everyone forgotten what life was like under the Tories? my dad was unemployed for years and life was horrendous, seriously couldnt make ends meet. blair has done some great things for the people of this country imho, and while i dont agree with the iraq war, thatcher took us to the falklands against public opinion and my brother has served in iraq and in his opinion we do need to be out there.

doggiesayswoof · 10/05/2007 16:54

You see this is my problem lissielou. I haven't forgotten what Thatcher did (esp in the North and Scotland) and will never vote Tory. However after the last 4 years I'm pretty sure I will never vote Labour again either. Yes Blair's domestic policies have done some good, but wtf is the warmongering all about? And I'm not sold on PFI either...
