[accepts hard hat]

[anxiously reviews list of potential names for BadgerCub]

FimCrocbo · 20/04/2007 13:33

Ooh I would like to see the top 22 though.

DS's middle name is top {preens}

MrsBadger · 20/04/2007 13:35

[hoots with laughter on comparing top 5 achieving girls' names with said list]

Gobbledigook · 20/04/2007 13:35

'The 22 top-achieving names are all girls. The top five are: Katharine, Madeleine, Bryony, Philippa and Eleanor.'

custy · 20/04/2007 13:36

Gobbledigook · 20/04/2007 13:36

Can't we see the top boys ones as well?

Lovecat · 20/04/2007 13:39

Interesting article, esp. re the race thing.

Having fought like mad over dd's name (and won - hah! - in your face, Mr LC!) I then read Freakanomics and discovered apparently it is the 'whitest' girls' name in America today. I had no idea it had such a stereotype (it's an Irish name, btw) and am now worrying that people who have also read the book and meet dd will think she has white supremacists for parents or something...

UnquietDad · 20/04/2007 13:42

Wonder what the top five boys' names are in the Top Achieving list?

My guess:
William, Samuel, Thomas, Matthew and Alexander.

Blandmum · 20/04/2007 13:44

sam or samuel?

'Good' boys names in my experience. David, Tim, Mathiew, Mark, John(athan).

I'm not doing the 'bad' ones, I'm not brave enough and don't have enough asbestos!

oh the Freakonomics article on names is superb - I was fascinated that 18 of the 24 girls' names they tip as 'popular US names of 2015' were at a (N London intelligentsia-type) school with me in the 80s...

UnquietDad · 20/04/2007 13:46

DW is a teacher and has yet to meet a good Ryan, Keiron, Jordan, Jayden or Liam.

GameGirly · 20/04/2007 13:48

DD2's first name is up there. And she's a dead loss at school, bless her!

UnquietDad · 20/04/2007 13:49

MB - is there a difference between Sams and Samuels?

OrmIrian · 20/04/2007 13:49

DD's name is in the top five..... of course.

OrmIrian · 20/04/2007 13:49

DD's name is in the top five..... of course.

OrmIrian · 20/04/2007 13:49

Twice! It's that good.

niceglasses · 20/04/2007 13:50

God, I find that really, really depressing................

MrsBadger · 20/04/2007 13:53

I wonder if they corrected for popularity in the TES survey.
I mean if there were 1000 Katharines, if 500 of them did well that's only 50% - maybe every single one of the 16 Shania-Butterflies did excellently but as there were only 16 of them they'd have no chance vs the Katharines...

UnquietDad · 20/04/2007 13:58

Given the unstable nature of the Earth's weather, I'm wondering how long it will be before they run out of normal names for hurricanes. It won't be long before get Hurricane Shaznay-Shantelle, Hurricane Destiny-Chelise and Hurricane Jayden-Ace.

Or Hurricane Serenity-Tempest, which would be ironic.

Lovecat · 20/04/2007 14:05

There's a Jayden in dd's nursery room - and he has the hots for dd - always pushing her over and 'cuddling' her!

Convent school, now!!

suedonim · 20/04/2007 14:08

The list of the most popular names of 2015 - interesting to see how many of the boys names are surnames, more than half by my reckoning. What's behind that?

UnquietDad · 20/04/2007 14:18

They're all going to be named after rappers in twnety years. Classrooms full of Pharrells and Dee-Los and Jay-Dees and Jay-Zees and Puffys and Tupacs.

ChippyMinton · 20/04/2007 14:21

Why isn't there a boys list?
