Charlie Gard 15

This is a thread following the legal and ethical questions raised by the recent court case involving Charlie Gard.

Please could we refrain from insulting or otherwise "bashing" his parents. It isn't in the spirit of Mumsnet and will get the threads removed.

Please could we also remember that at the heart of this case is a terminally ill baby and his heartbroken parents. There are those participating in and watching this thread for whom these issues are painful. Please let's try and be mindful of them when we post. This isn't a place for name calling or trivialising the very real pain they feel. Many parents of severely disabled children are on here.

Lastly, here are some hopefully useful reference points of facts surrounding the case.

Hiya guys, I have been away, not saw any news or anything, where are we up too?

Eastpoint · 24/07/2017 14:33

Those poor poor people. I've been lurking throughout but have never felt I had anything to add. I am so relieved that this case has come to an end and that his parents will be able to spend some time at his bedside without feeling they have to challenge everything.

Thank you to all those of you who have shared your experiences and provided research.

CotswoldStrife · 24/07/2017 14:33

I also suspect the parents will claim GOSH should have acted sooner - I don't think that is right at all. I hope they take a step back from legal proceedings for a while and focus on themselves.

user1498911589 · 24/07/2017 14:33

CA members are now saying on FB that GOSH have killed Charlie, a truly despicable thing to say.

lougle · 24/07/2017 14:33

Huge respect to Chris Gard and Connie Yates. I sincerely hope that every single member of Charlie's Army will be as vocal in support of them now in their decision to allow him to rest, as they were in their support of them in fighting for treatment.

MardAsSnails · 24/07/2017 14:33

Completely the right decision in my opinion, but bloody hell im in tears for poor Connie and Chris at having finally accepted it after their fight.

Lots of love being sent to them, to the staff caring for him, and of course to little Charlie.

Sostenueto · 24/07/2017 14:33

My heart is breaking for Connie and Chris, but my heart is calm, the best thing for Charlie has finally happened. May you fly into the arms of Jesus.,Charlie, there to remain safe and pain free, peace at last.

cjt110 · 24/07/2017 14:33

@JoshuaRozenberg

Armstrong: parents fought to preserve Charlie's life as they thought it was in his best interests.

The whole world and media needs to fuck off and leave the Gard family alone now. It's enough.

Goldmandra · 24/07/2017 14:34

Why isn't someone telling the CA lot what's happening inside?

TartanDMs · 24/07/2017 14:34

Just had a news announcement that C&C have ended their legal fight. No details given though.

cjt110 · 24/07/2017 14:34

@JoshuaRozenberg

Armstrong: one it was established there was no medical chance they accepted legal advice to withdraw legal proceedings.

I am glad it seems the parents have made the decision themselves rather than having the decision thrust upon them. Hopefully that means they have managed to accept it a bit more now and can work with the hospital to make it as peaceful as possible for all involved.

so sad, but I do hope C&C have been able to take on board the results and that in time they will be able to seek closure.

BlueNeighbourhood · 24/07/2017 14:35

Has anyone else seen the live video on the CA Facebook page? Surely someone should have told them what's happened so they could show some respect.

Leave the Gard's alone to say goodbye to Charlie in peace.

flugella · 24/07/2017 14:35

I'm heartbroken and relieved all at once. That can't have been an easy decision for the parents given the circus surrounding them. Let's hope the "supporters" leave them to grieve in peace and find some comfort in their last few days with the poor little mite. Sleep well, little Charlie.

Cheby · 24/07/2017 14:36

I'm really worried about the wording they are using. It feels like Armstrong is setting up to say the treatment isn't appropriate because it wasn't done earlier, and that they may start litigation over why they weren't allowed to do it earlier.

TheFairyCaravan · 24/07/2017 14:36

People are still being abusive and saying evil has won on Twitter. Why can't they just shut up and think of Connie, Chris and Charlie?

That poor family. Sad

LapinR0se · 24/07/2017 14:36

Armstrong is laying it on very thick for future litigation in my opinion.

cjt110 · 24/07/2017 14:36

In view of the likely decision, do we still need to be continuing thwe re-tweets so to speak?

Medical experts knew what they were talking about. Who knew.

AcrossthePond55 · 24/07/2017 14:36

Oh, God bless them.

redshoeblueshoe · 24/07/2017 14:36
