She's made the effort to visit those injured but she is not warm. It's a bit stilted.
Nothing like the warmth / empathy of Harry and William.

Are you saying speaking to a bunch if strangers of varying ages whilst trying to remain composed and not put your foot in your mouth would come easily to anyone ?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 25/05/2017 19:13

Very nice of her to visit the patients, and parents, and thank the staff. From the photos people looked pleased, (I loved the bright colours too). I'm sure it's possible younger family members will be along later.

Leanback · 25/05/2017 19:15

I thought she made those little girls feel special. She spoke to them about Ariana as best she could.

She's 91 for fucks sake and she does over 300 royal visits a year.

misskelly · 25/05/2017 19:16

I'm very anti-monarchy and half the age of the Queen with teenagers of my own, but I think I would struggle to make small talk with traumatised children. I think it's great she made the journey to visit the kids, parents and staff.

TheDrsDocMartens · 25/05/2017 19:23

I think she did a good job considering it's going to be a lack of shared topics to discuss whilst avoiding explosion talk.

MumIsRunningAMarathon · 25/05/2017 19:25

Ugh! Op, have a word with yourself!

You sound pathetic.... but I guess you thought you'd have the night of mumsnet nodding their heads and agreeing along with you

Nasty

derxa · 25/05/2017 19:30

She said the bombing was 'wicked'. A powerful message coming from her.

sashh · 25/05/2017 19:32

I just thought it didn't come naturally to her.

WTF. The woman has met thousands of people over the years, she is a pro, but I can't remember her having met children in the same situation before, so maybe it was a new experience and not natural.

OutwiththeOutCrowd · 25/05/2017 19:33

She'd probably rather be chillaxing with the corgis at 91. But she clambered into her weddingy gear and travelled some distance to do the Right Thing.

Whether she was charismatic and touchy-feely whilst doing the Right Thing is neither here nor there.

Piratesandpants · 25/05/2017 19:37

This was the Queen doing her job well. This is partly what the monarchy is for, to lead support and unity in difficult times.

PortiaCastis · 25/05/2017 19:38

............. Yep and she's still working at 91

Eastpoint · 25/05/2017 19:42

I am really pleased that the Queen went to visit those injured by the bomb. By visiting them she showed how important they are to the rest of the country, it was as if she was visiting them on our behalf. I assume that many of them will suffer for the rest of their lives, bad dreams, pain, future surgeries and I hope they will be able to look back on her visit and know how special they all are. I still cannot get over the evilness that goes into bombing little girls and their parents.

M0stlyBowlingHedgehog · 25/05/2017 19:51

I'm not in favour of the monarchy, but I think she did absolutely the right thing and thought the pictures were very moving.

mateysmum · 25/05/2017 19:55

I suspect she was also working to keep her emotions in check and put on a cheery face. No matter how experienced at royal duties I can't believe anyone, especially a great grandmother could be unmoved by the victims' stories. Lovely to see she put a smile on the faces of those she met.

NameThatPrune · 25/05/2017 20:03

Good for the Queen. Totally the right thing for her to do to visit. Not easy to do at her age or any age.

isadoradancing123 · 25/05/2017 20:23

Well it probably didn't come naturally to her, but she made the effort and went. I am youngish but it wouldn't come naturally to me to know what to say to teenage girls who had just been through a horrific experience

MagentaRocks · 25/05/2017 20:26

She is 91, and at very short notice travelled to see those in hospital affected by the bombing. Chances are, as she is so busy, you know being the queen, she has likely had to cancel something else.

She does not show emotion, she has done something lovely, and the people she met are probably thrilled that they got to talk to the queen.

NorthernLurker · 25/05/2017 20:28

Worth remembering too that her own youngest granddaughter is 13, 14 this year. I've seen my own teenagers and pre-teen in all the photos and stories this week and it breaks my heart. I'm sure the Queen does too.

StealthPolarBear · 25/05/2017 20:33

"This was the Queen doing her job well. This is partly what the monarchy is for, to lead support and unity in difficult times."
Yes, exactly this. I also thought her comment about the attacks sounded very unpolished and was probably her genuine reaction as opposed to anything that had been prepared for her. Like most of us she sounded shocked and bewildered.

StealthPolarBear · 25/05/2017 20:35

I was talking to 8yo dd yesterday about what had happened. I couldn't tell her an 8 year old girl was among the dead :(

utopialopier · 25/05/2017 21:21

I watched these images at lunch time and I couldn't take my eyes away.

The queen is 91. I have the utmost respect for her travelling up there and trying to cheer those children up! The way she chatted about Ariana Grande, trying to make a connection , whilst acknowledging how wicked the attack was. She came across as pretty normal really and respectful. Even with cameras and press unusually close .

I love the Queen even more now and I am No royalist either.

wisteriainbloom · 25/05/2017 21:24

I am a staunch anti royalist and I cannot bear the dawning over them but even I thought that the Queen did a good job on this.

wisteriainbloom · 25/05/2017 21:25

ButTheBearSnoredOn · 25/05/2017 21:35

Ah I've just watched the videos of her talking to the patients and I think she was wonderful.

AuldHeathen · 27/05/2017 00:01

I was very impressed seeing the 91 year old getting out of the Range Rover. It's high, she's short, she did very well with no help. I read somewhere she was going up that way anyway, Lancaster I think, so a detour. And I was really impressed she liked Ariane Grande. I hadn't even heard of her before Monday night. I dislike the monarchy too, but she did great.
