this is so sad, i am forever telling people to chop them up and get strange looks, so so so sad,,,

expatinscotland · 08/03/2007 10:21

Those hot dogs are REALLY bad for choking, too.

Popcorn is another one. Hell, I have even choked on popcorn as an adult.

amidaiwish · 08/03/2007 11:22

i cut up the grapes for DD1's birthday party last week (age 3)
all the mums thought i was slightly loopy...

glad i did, imagine if something had happened? there were lots of 1 year olds there too...

paulaplumpbottom · 08/03/2007 12:13

Popcorn really?

Gobbledigook · 08/03/2007 12:15

How sad.

Don't feel such an eejit for cutting them now. I still do for all of mine and they are 5, 4 and 2.

catASTROPHE · 08/03/2007 12:22

I've also heard popcorn, as its so light and easy to inhale. Also marshmallows for the same reason.

I also don't let DCs have cornchips, uncooked carrot, or uncooked apple (unless very thinly sliced with a peeler, or grated). These were the recommendations given to us in Australia.

This is so sad

paulaplumpbottom · 08/03/2007 12:25

Friday night is movie night in our house and DD 3 loves the popcorn and the marshmallows.

helenhismadwife · 08/03/2007 14:23

rice cakes are another choke hazard

paulaplumpbottom · 08/03/2007 15:58

Seriously? My goodness I give those to DD all the time.

helenhismadwife · 08/03/2007 16:29

I used to as well, thought they were healthy but its because they are light

PCM · 08/03/2007 20:29

Can not believe this about rice cakes use them all the time handy to take out with you and healthy.
Does anyone know of any first aid courses relating to babies/toddlers in Northern Ireland.

paulaplumpbottom · 08/03/2007 20:36

PCM that was my next question

noonar · 08/03/2007 20:46

my dd aged 2 y 8 mo loves nuts. esp pistachios and cashews. she doesnt eat meat, so nuts are a good source of protein. i cant decide if chopping them up is safer. we always eat nuts sitting down.

noonar · 08/03/2007 20:49

ps my dd's nursery sent her half eaten packed lunch home with her. they had cut up her grapes . made me feel

yellowrose · 08/03/2007 21:06

PCM - I have looked this up for you - it has a list of all courses including NI

PCM · 08/03/2007 21:47

yellowrose · 08/03/2007 21:55
