For those sad individuals who enjoyed this last time (and I am one of them ). The new series starts on Tuesday, and it looks like a good one!

Thinking about it sweary woman was very child like wasn't she? Never given any money to be responsible for, not even doing the shoping, never allowed out unless husband said so, no idea of how to organised her childrem, or house or garden. Her idea of fun was a party, not realy possible every day? Prison man got it right when he said that she needed to grow up.

Oh I am SO SO SO cross. I went out last night and forgot to tape it. I was really looking forward to it (I know....get a life) Does anyone know if it's repeated on E4 or anything?

Twinkie · 05/07/2004 11:43

oooooo I thinnk they were just as bad as each other - I can understand that kids need boundarys but their boundaries were both to the extreme!!

I think swearing womans kids probably will end up in prison but they will at least be able to show their feelings PO's kids will just be completely screwed up not being able to show their feelings and actually having to make choices for themselves will completely blow their minds!!

Poppy1978 · 05/07/2004 11:58

I couldn't believe the prayer prison woman told sweary woman's kids to say before bed, I can't remember it exactly but it was along the lines of:

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take.

I'm not xtian, and is it just me who thinks this is vile!!! Poor little kids being tucked into bed witht he thought that they might die during the night. Sounds like a great trigger for nightmares.

misdee · 05/07/2004 12:02

i dont like that prayer either. gives me the creeps. i feel that prayers should be personal to everyone and not just recited like that.

Blu · 05/07/2004 13:43

The whole thing made me feel ill:
The little girls explanation of the 'punishment' system:
"if I start it I get punished on that day and Lance gets punished the next day"
'How does your mummy remember who is to be punished on which day? Oh you tell her?'
'yes, or we get slapped'

At least the 'nits' family got something out of it - a more enlightened Dad - and Spike MIGHT have been open to being more flexible with the kids - but overall, what sad sad people, and kids.

As for Channel4: Cock-fighting and Xians fighting lions was banned years ago. I actually fely a bit sick with myself for watching it.

I agree with all. Especially the prayers and the discipline. The thing I am sorry about is why didn't the adults get nits? They deserved them.
People like this is why we we need social Workers, but where are they. Is this what is meant by a NORMAL family? I am glad that I think abnormally!

I didnt watch it

feeel it like watching an operation

i have no desire to see these aparent scrotes howling at each other - visit any shopping centre ona saturday afternoon to see that

spacemonkey · 05/07/2004 14:27

you're right blu, although it's compulsive viewing it makes me feel soiled as does jerry springer, trisha and big brother (which i have entirely boycotted this year)

i enquired recently about taking part in a BBC parenting series and eventually decided against it because i can't bear the thought of baring my family's soul to the viewing public in this way!

codswallop · 05/07/2004 14:29

as my ( very snobby) mum says

" who gives these people air time?"

LOL

Ex-colleagues neighbour was on this, they get paid 20K for it (don't know if it's true) and it is very cleverly edited.

Watched a bit of the Wife Swap Changed My Life (think that's what it was called) the follow up on C$ at 11 last night. Lizzie Bardsley posed topless for the Sunday Sport what was that about!!!!

Paula71 · 06/07/2004 02:12

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray the Lord my soul to keep.
If I should die before I wake,
I pray the Lord my soul to take

I remember that from the Little House On The Prairie books!

Neither woman was particularly, um, efficient. Prison officer needed to remember her children were not her prisoners and Sweary woman was just horrendous. Who is for the bet that when her children are older she will provide perfect alibis for them?

sandyballs · 06/07/2004 14:13

The sweary woman's definition of posh made me laugh -

"ain't no kids settin fire to cars"

Must be posh then!

jane313 · 08/07/2004 18:58

I like the description of next weeks programme. Evidently the one in the million pound house in cornwall spends 5 hours a day doing housework. I would move to a half million pound house and then pay someone else to clean it.

juniper68 · 08/07/2004 19:38

I wonder if Social services watch this? Both sets of parents could do with a grilling IMO.

That prayer is horrendous I'm a christian but I ask my kids if they want to pray and for whatever they like. Sometimes it's thank you for penguins!

It's true that they seem to go from one extreme to another but I suppose that's what makes the reactions so acute. And us perfect parents can sit on our sofas feeling smug

aloha · 08/07/2004 20:30

I feel too sorry for the children to watch these programmes any more. I agree with all those who say, where are the social services when you need them? I only watched the trailers and they were upsetting enough.
