article

I find the above incredibly sad - those poor little babies - would those parents have stood by and watched them die for the sake of their religeon??

I can't believe anyone would not want to do everything in their power to keep their child alive???

Don't mean to sound snide it's just the way I see it. My DH would have been dead 10 times over if it wasn't for blood transfusions. So I am very grateful to all blood donors and will donate again when i am able.

SparklyGothKat · 24/02/2007 23:04

You can not take what me and misdee says as gospal, because we have been out of the regilion for a while now. But everything that MrsSpoon and Lisad123 have said is correct.

Rumpel · 24/02/2007 23:05

Don't worry Sparkly I don't take what anyone says as 'gospel' pardon the pun eh? tee hee.

lisad123 · 24/02/2007 23:05

I dont think its that, ALL baptisted JW have to obey the rule of no blood, but the rule of organs and such like is your personal choice, as that isn't instructed in the bible.
You are allowed to drink as a JW but not to the point of getting drunk, because it heightens the risk of doing something you might regret in the morning.

Rumpel · 24/02/2007 23:06

Incidently misdee is your Dh well now?

SparklyGothKat · 24/02/2007 23:07

Rumpel, I thought of that after I posted lol

MrsSpoon · 24/02/2007 23:07

The thing is Rumple, so many people pick this as an issue when it comes to JWs however everyone has their own beliefs and faith and you make your decisions based on that, same way as I make my decisions based on my beliefs and faith.

MrsSpoon · 24/02/2007 23:08

Hello Lisa BTW, nice to meet you so to speak.

misdee · 24/02/2007 23:08

no rumpel, he is still waiting, its coming upto 2 years now.

Rumpel · 24/02/2007 23:08

Right Lisa - please can you answer me this then. My Gran says that there is only one true bible - the king James bible. Is this so for all JWs? If so do you not agree with history that King James had the bible rewritten in order to suit his own wants and needs. Also what about this 'hedist' stuff - is that across the board too?

MrsSpoon · 24/02/2007 23:09

misdee .

edam · 24/02/2007 23:09

My MIL's parents converted to JW when she was a small child. My MIL never liked it, made her views known, and refused to join in. Must have been a very strong-willed little girl (esp. as this was the 50s when obedience was much more prized than it is now).

It did cause a lot of trouble with her parents but she wasn't estranged from them. Her brother and his family are JWs and she sees a lot of them. Although they wouldn't come to dh's and my wedding they did send us a nice present.

misdee · 24/02/2007 23:10

rumpal

Rumpel · 24/02/2007 23:10

Misdee - hope something comes up soon - bad for the other party but good for you. Swings and roundabouts. My Dh couldn't get a brain transplant - he had to make do with the one he's got but it seems to be doing okay so far Must be all the EFA's I feed him.

edam · 24/02/2007 23:10

Went round to have dinner with dh's cousins once. I went outside for a fag at one point. Dh told me his male cousin asked in horror: 'Why do you allow edam to smoke'.

lisad123 · 24/02/2007 23:13

Hi

I have no idea , i suck at history and I thought Henry 8th rewrote C of E bible so he could get divorced.
We follow the same bible as most Christian religions.
I don't know what you mean by Heist, sorry.
I can ask me mum if that helps.

Lisa

MrsSpoon · 24/02/2007 23:19

We most often use New World Translation but will use any Bible.

Rumpel · 24/02/2007 23:20

Lisa - hedist is the term used meaning that the man is the head of the household and must be obeyed.

Misdee - jings that has cheered me right up! What a nightmare for you. I've been a donor since I was 16 (still have the original card in my wallet) and registered with the national database as soon as it started. Life is pretty hard sometimes eh? This is when faith is a good thing. i still believe that it was all the people praying for us that saved my Dh's life. There were prayer circles in Ireland, England, Scotland and all over. All that positive energy and love resonates in my opinion. I'll send you and your Dh love and thoughts and hopefully something will turn up soon and you can enjoy life to the full again. By the way your DD's are gorgeous.

3andnomore · 24/02/2007 23:26

Sorry if I came across as abrupt or whatever...but being german, I do feel kind a tetchy when that argument is brought along...and noI am not reacist or nazi or anything...but there also was another side to it all(not the extremism, of course....)

MrsSpoon · 24/02/2007 23:30

3andnomore, I did not intend to cause offence, it is however history and I felt relevent to Rumple's comments.

lisad123 · 24/02/2007 23:31

my brains just arent in place tonight, need sleep.
Yes I guess I do agree that men should be head of house hold if possible, but not that they have to be obeyed, JWs teach about respect for each other and making choices together, but I guess men have final say (although growing up, Im sure my mum made more choices than my dad)
I know some JWs (mainly older generations) where men will take all choices, but i think thats a throw back from 50's rather than JWs.
The other thing I guess I find hard is people assume JWs are all the same, especially those ones that stick a foot in the door, as you go to slam it , horrible that one stupid man (like my grandad) causes so many bad feelings.

Lisa

Rumpel · 24/02/2007 23:37

I don't assume all JW's are the same, unfortunately a lot of the JW's I know are like that. My wee cousin is a bit more relaxed though. Hey every religion has lots of different people in it, we all have different takes on life, that's why I think it all boils down to 'man's interpretation'. My personal preference is to go through life doing the best I can and harming as few people as possible - I just find it really hard to deal with other people being fundamentalist in ALL religions. I am the type of person to question everything and i like to expose myself to new knowledge all the time.

MrsSpoon · 24/02/2007 23:41

Rumpel, I like to question things too, questioning things is good. I spent a good half hour last Sunday researching something that wasn't adding up, always feel better for it.

3andnomore · 24/02/2007 23:42

It wasn't religion though...it was extremism of some other kind...that was the holocaust..HItler and big ego springs to mind...also mental health issue and sadly he was a very good and enthusiatic public talker bringing his point across far to well..i.e. brilliant manipulator...

Rumpel · 24/02/2007 23:43

Well i need to go to bed now as my Lo will be waking up at ridiculous am - was good speaking to you all. maybe we could resume this conversation at a later date? Good night and 'God bless' choose your preference tee hee.
