Should Tony stay, and what are the politicalimplications

Tony staying for now

I was discussing this with a colleague this morning. And wondered what mners think.

If Tony hangs on for longer, will it increase Cameron's chances of beating Brown? Will it keep Brown from getting the PM position?

Cameron seems quite keen for Tony to step down. Do you think he thinks he can better beat Brown in the General Election if Brown takes office sooner rather than later?

Anyone notice how the Tory's are keeping their heads down on this, particularly as Michael Howard was questioned earlier on in the investigation. Considering the number of their deep pocketed millionaire backers that acquired knighthoods and seats in the House of Lords, I bet they would like to see an end to this whole episode.

TB won't step down. He'll emerge out of this grinning. I take my hat of to him. He was resolute and unabash in his responses to John Humphries (sp?). Like him or not, he talks and acts like a statesman, not like a simpering wannabe who is desperate to be liked which is how Cameron comes across to me and I suspect, to many of the Tory faithful. I give him to the end of this year to get his act together before his party put him out of misery and kick him out.

Freckle, you're forgetting that TB is highly respected in the USA. He will make a fortune on the lecturing circuit, scandal or no scandal. Ultimately, the Americans will only remember that he stood side by side with Dubya to help them in their hour of need.

I love 'politicalimplications' as one word, it would get a lot of use I think
And it looks like you have to say it quite fast too

(Just ignore me)

UnquietDad · 02/02/2007 14:43

In France and maybe French Canada as well, speedymama. His French is very good.

FrogPrincess · 02/02/2007 14:44

WHAT?
We don't need TB in France
we have plenty of fluffy pointless politicians as it is

Freckle · 02/02/2007 14:50

I'm not forgetting the USA. Just that Tone's character isn't one to take the flak for something if he can offload it elsewhere. Plus being popular in the States is only really useful if you intend spending a lot of time there. With all his family here, I can't really see Tone (and Cherie with her high-flying career) taking off for the States long-term.

They could hang out with Posh 'n' Becks .

uwila · 02/02/2007 16:00

'tis true. American love Tony. (especially the accent)

And they do remember who their friends are (and aren't)

Hey, Dinosaur, if we have a good punch up on this thread will you still come to the London booze up and be my drinking buddy?

Tony always comes across to me as a vain pretender, I guess its down to whether you like him or not.

CAMy · 02/02/2007 17:12

Statesman? More polytechnic lecturer or small branch bank manager

Dinosaur · 02/02/2007 21:59

Of course, uwila . Like I said, if you'll have me, I'll come! I wouldn't want to talk about politicians all night, though, believe me!

I think he's hanging on until he can declare war on Iran. Because Gordon isn't reliable enough to do as Bush tells him.
