Women's safety in Europe after Cologne

DavidTCDaviesMP · 08/02/2016 09:38

I have been invited onto Mumsnet to discuss the situation for women in Europe following the attacks in Cologne, and the challenge we face in Europe in trying to help millions of mainly young men, who are arriving in Europe from cultures which treat women very differently. I believe this is an issue which needs open discussion by political leaders yet is swept under the carpet. David Davies MP

Reports that a group of women in Kalmar, Sweden, have formed a group to patrol swimming pools to try to protect women and children from sexual assaults. Started on Sunday and already proving very positive feedback. They call themselves Tafsvakten or Groping Guard. No official recognition for them what a surprise , but good to see women taking control when official routes have let them down isn't it?

emilybohemia · 18/02/2016 22:15

Please give it a rest with 'concerns for my mental health.' Plenty of people post regularly on mumsnet without being mentally ill.

Cellardoor1 · 18/02/2016 22:15

Emily, terrorists already have "piggybacked" in to Europe under the guise of refugees (this is how some of the Paris attackers returned to Europe from Syria) hundreds of women have been sexually assaulted by men who came in to Europe in the guise of refugees, a woman was murdered by a man posing as an underage refugee. Those are facts, I'm not sure how stating them can be perceived as far right rhetoric because THEY HAVE ACTUALLY HAPPENED. What Lumela said is a valid concern, not xenophobic or racist.

I really can't believe that I've just read that environmental concerns are far right.

It does show up how different priorities can come into conflict does it not Emily?

Out of interest, do you think we can carry on increasing the population indefinitely?

emilybohemia · 18/02/2016 22:23

Bungo, environmental concerns LINKED TO IMMIGRATION. Not exactly talking about it in isolation were they?

BillSykesDog · 18/02/2016 22:24

emily, people like you are probably the most effective recruitment tool the far right has. Instead of listening to people's concerns or working out effective ways for us to have a cohesive society where most people feel their concerns are addressed you just deny, deny, deny, accuse, accuse, accuse. It's exactly the feeling of powerlessness, not being listened to and being marginalised that people like you create which drives people to the far right because they feel nobody else is listening.

So do you think we can carry on increasing the population indefinitely? Just on principle, I don't care whether it's by native or immigrant increase.

BungoWomble · 18/02/2016 22:27

As a starter, that is.

OhforGodsake · 18/02/2016 22:28

Bill I suggested to Emily , pages back, that her rantings were actually counter productive. Would she listen? Nada.

emilybohemia · 18/02/2016 22:31

Ohfor, there is no need for personal comments, simply commenting on what I say is fine without trying to be personal in that way is best I think.

Moreshabbythanchic · 18/02/2016 22:34

Have you ever heard that saying about pot and kettle Emily?

Perhaps I should say that my aim there is simply to get you to admit that the world is a complicated place with lots of different interests and that even with the best will and all honesty in the world they will conflict.

emilybohemia · 18/02/2016 22:47

Moreshabby, I've stuck to highlighting xenophobia when I see it in comments. I haven't pontificated over the state of peoples' mental health, whether they'd adopt or not, that they sound like a student, if I would like them in real life etc, which are nothing to do with the comments I've made.

Ohfor, I don't think the word 'venom' or 'stalkerish' is usually included for people one has genuine concern for. You do know this is a public forum and not an exclusive club?

BillSykesDog · 18/02/2016 22:52

I haven't pontificated

BWAHAHAHAHAHA! You should be a comedian emily, no really, that's hilarious.

Haven't pontificated indeed. You've done nothing but pontificate. And you've been vile to other people on this thread and made plenty of personal comments too.

What was it you said to me? 'Beyond your powers of comprehension'. Don't dish it out if you can't take it flower.

It's what you see as xenophobia, which everyone else sees as misogyny when it refuses to admit that other cultures do have different views on the role of women. What would it take to convince you that different cultural views on gender do exist?

I wasn't aware Springwatch espoused fears on immigration.

BillSykesDog · 18/02/2016 23:05

Yes, that's another thing. You seem to be lacking a sense of humour along with your missing insight and self awareness. You are a careless little scamp emily.

Every day's a school day here!

I had my wellies on earlier to walk round the garden looking for immigrants foxes. I now realise they are rather taller and shinier than average wellies. And my gait, after that chilly carriage, was a little stiff.

It's all making perfect sense now. Thank you. I would salute you, but I'd hate to offend.Grin

Izlet · 18/02/2016 23:11

I've been lurking on this and the other Cologne threads and have been witnessing the ever spiralling illogical and incoherent rants from a certain poster. The latest one of Fuck the trees, won't you think about the immigraaants?!? is pure madness. I can just imagine the high pitched squeak at the end.

In any case, I just wanted to point out that the Guardian has finally admitted to 1000 victims in Cologne albeit linked to an article criticising another press outlet.
