of former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's advisers is in full-blown panic mode over China's Black Monday uk.businessinsider.com/gordon-brown-adviser-damian-mcbride-full-blown-panic-mode-over-chinas-black-monday-2015-8

We have seen seeing the markets crashing everywhere. Governments from china to the US and EU are trying their best to simulate the economy and delay the inevitable. It is now official, there will be an stock market collapse, meaning the banks will be shut and with that everything coming to halt. No one will be at work, no imports will come in, food and medication selves will be empty, civil unrest, hungry and confused people etc... will follow. We have seen it happen to other countries like Greece, but this time no will be here to save our butts.

We dont know what simulation package (if any) will follow, but in the mean time it will be a good idea to have bear essentials like food/ water/ medication/ warm clothing and coal to hand. Im looking at it as buying insurance.

Just wondering how much food and other essentials you have got in your house. And would you be buying more stuff to protect your family, from a economic collapse.

Most people dont keep up to date on this stuff, if you have please share some info to help others understand what is happening.

Thanks

Sophie

My DM loved a bit of spam. And tinned pilchards on toast.

The other kids loved our play dates Hmm

DonkeyOaty · 01/09/2015 00:37

Urgh tinned pilchards on toast was trumpeted as a rare treat in my childhood. Bleurgh. Mashed with a fork and sprinkled with vinegar.

MollyAir · 01/09/2015 00:39

Damien McBride...sponsored by Spam...that chubby little face...

howtorebuild · 01/09/2015 00:39

So this is a false alert? Phew!

I remember all those doom laden prophecies about the Millennium Bug. One of the morning TV shows featured a family who had stock piled masses of water, tinned food, etc., and were off to hunker down in a remote part of Scotland. I often wonder what happened to them, did they slink back to their old life and flog their non perishables at the local car boot, are they still out there eking out their supplies filled with disappointment that the only bangs came from the fireworks?

I've scheduled my monthly shop for this week so if they could hold off on the end of the world for a couple more days I'd be obliged.

AGnu · 01/09/2015 01:05

I'm confused, why would closed banks mean we had to live indoors for a month? If we're not allowed drinking water then I'm assuming the toilets won't flush - will we be allowed outside to dig a latrine or will we have to make do with a bucket & fling it out the window? I might prefer to stay inside if people start doing that...

Can we not just take money out now & stash it somewhere to last us a while & then use that to buy food when we need it? Not sure we've really got space for that many tins... We do batch cooking though so as long as the electric's on we'll have a well stocked freezer. Will there be electric after the apocalypse?

andersonsophie89 · 01/09/2015 01:06

Im sure there is at least some of you who have heard of Money Week magazine, the UK best selling financial magazine. They released a video a few years ago informing people there will be an economic collapse happening in the UK very soon. Do you really think they will risk their reputation and readership (who are pretty economically aware) for a SPAM?

My self esteem is fine thank you. In fact one of my kids mates said my eyebrows are "on fleck" today

FattyNinjaOwl · 01/09/2015 01:14

Will there be zombies? I'm fucked if there are, I live very close to two cemeterys.

emotionsecho · 01/09/2015 01:14

Experts in all areas have been known to get things wrong, OP.

Why the vitriol at Paintpot22's innocuous comment? Overreaction, overreaction, overreaction.

SiobhanSharpe · 01/09/2015 01:14

Is this the same Damian McBride who was sacked as Gordon Brown's press advisor over 'smeargate' -- a cunning plan to plant sex scandal stories abiut Tory politicians? So, totally reliable, then.

I don't think there is any evidence to point to an overreaction on the OPs behalf at any point during this thread.

She's clearly very balanced

andersonsophie89 · 01/09/2015 01:20

mike keiser - who has his own slot on RT News talking about finance is also speaking about it. He also appears on other US shows to talk about economy. www.rt.com/shows/keiser-report/

Harry Dent is economist and also featured in a number of US news channels. He has made very accurate predictions.

Ron Paul was a former Republican congressman has been talking about this for years, while he was running for presidency. His son Ran Paul who is congressman is also talking about. www.ronpaul.com/2015-06-20/ron-pauls-warning-economic-collapse/

Gerald Celente - who has been on a lot of US news programmes predicting the economy. He has been dubbed the nostradamus of trend forecasting.

David Cameron last year warns of new global economic crisis. Obviously if you was running the country, would you sound the alarm and be known as the person who brought the economic collapse early? No, you will keep your trap shut and wish it will implode with the next leader. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/david-cameron-warns-of-new-global-economic-crisis-9864307.html

You wont get the truth from the politicans. They wont warn you before it happens. Start reading between the lines. Ed Miliband and Ed Balls knew about the economic crash of 2008 a year before it happened www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2914839/Two-Eds-hid-truth-global-crash-Miliband-Balls-knew-UK-economy-fall-cliff-year-happened-kept-secret.html

All these people are NOT scaremongering, simply warning. Get essentials even for peace of mind. There is no harm in getting prepared, but you will loose everything, including loves ones if you don't. Think if this as insurance.

emotionsecho · 01/09/2015 01:20

He was doing the paper review on Sunday morning on Sky and they talked about China, strange he didn't repeat these dire warnings.

SiobhanSharpe · 01/09/2015 01:22

And what a great advertisement for Money Week magazine. Makes we want to rush out and buy it. Or, even better, The Economist. At least their grammar is up to scratch.

PigletJohn · 01/09/2015 01:23

Sophie

Are you willing to admit that "British official warning public" is false?

sleeponeday · 01/09/2015 01:23

I've seen some nastiness on MN, OP. I went and looked for Paintpot's comments, expecting from your response that they would be awful.

All she did was point out that your post is over the top and scaremongering. Which, you know, it is.

There may well be a nasty crash over the Chinese situation. Most economists acknowledge that. But the apocalyptic dramatics aren't exactly appropriate - we may be facing another global crash, sure, but it isn't as though we've never seen it before.

And Damien McBride is not someone whose opinions I would really regard with a great deal of respect.

I'm confused as to how I will lose loved ones if its only the banks going tits up and there's no zombies...

What do you mean, no zombies? Of course there will be zombies. Just what sort of mediocre apocalypse d'you think we're planning, here?

FattyNinjaOwl · 01/09/2015 01:30

Real zombies? Dead coming to life zombies? Or the new zombie, which is basically a human with rabies?

emotionsecho · 01/09/2015 01:30

I'm confused by the advice regarding a rallying point, I thought we were all going to be indoors.

sleeponeday · 01/09/2015 01:33

I'm not sure - DS is the zombie aficionado, but he's also asleep, and given he's only 7 I don't really like to wake him up - unless we're actually in imminent danger before dawn?
