MI5 Terrorism Warning - How do you feel?

VanillaMilkshake · 10/11/2006 20:51

I personally want to curl up in a ball and never be more than 5ft away from any of my family again.

I am terrified by the waring issued from the head of MI5.

At 8 months pregnant, I am begining to wonder why we are bringing a second child in to world where people are killing so mercilessly and needlessy and where the environment is about to be ruined beyond repair. I can do my bit for the environment. But politley asking Please Mr Terrorist dont hurt us' is not going to bugger all.

Why are these people doing this. I have nothing against them, and I can't help what the government does - I am one person who loves my family and wants to raise my children to enjoy the world and make positive contributions

Please someone tell me I am not alone in feeling so desperate and frightened. I know we are supposed to stand up to terror threats - but I can't - they have achieved their goal with me - I am terrified!

I've just been reading the biography of a novellist who lived through WW2. She talks about a church full of children in Devon taking a direct hit. Things like this were commonplace and nowhere was safe. Really, in comparison we live in a very safe world.

"little NZ which is miles away, doesn't really have any military with which to be involved in wars and doesn't have any resources anybody wants...."

that is so sensible. Perhaps if all militaries were disbanded, all weapon factories closed and turned to more useful production, more walking and less internal (or external) combustion, and perhaps if we were more careful in our use of natural resources, our world could become like little NZ?

CBM, not CND, "Campaign for banning militaries"

to answer OP
I was 8 months pg with ds 1 at the hieght of the foot and mouth epidemic and the same gestation with ds2 when Iraq was invaded. I had the same feelings as you and then thought about all those children ( our parents and possibly grandparents) born between 1939 - 1945

Go figure
human life goes on, that's what makes it so fantatstic

i feel so angry when we as a race should be focussing all our energies on saving this planet, that is the biggest threat to all our survival, and instead the USA is going around invading countries and young men are being trained to kill in the name of hate on both sides. We are killing innocent people in Iraq every day. innocent Palestinians are being killed every day. Afghanistan is a mess. If we want to stop the threat we have to stop the reasons behind it. But very angry that British citizens deliberately want to kill and maim people here, and devastate the enviroment too - if they ever used nuclear or chemical material. Bloody idiots on both sides.

and i would move to NZ like a shot if dh would agree.

Vanilla - know just how you feel. Couldn't watch any even vaguely violent or gloomy TV when pregnant. Yes, a lot of it is hormones but much of it also goes with the territory of being a mother. But, you have to live your life - no one can do that for you while you're hiding away, curled up in a ball!

What scares me more these days as opposed to the cold war times, is the 'enemy within' element. But we have no choice but to carry on - that is a victory of sorts over the terrorists isn't it? What message do we send our children otherwise?

VanillaMilkshake · 12/11/2006 20:18

Just can't stop hearing about all these fanatics! And all those comments about enemies of islam - I am not an enemy of Islam. I am a Christian, but I dont judge other religions - how can I. Why can;t these people understand that the common people are not the enemy and 8 out of 10 of us hate the bloody government. If I could get my hanbds on TB I would just shake him so hard.

This is the church close to me in Torquay, 60 children were killed at Sunday School, the planes were dumping off the bombs they had not used in Plymouth

Humans, so wonderfully creative but at times I wonder if we should have ventured across the savannah! This little film puts things into perspective.... watch this

I can understand people wanting to 'escape' to NZ, especially with kids. It is a wonderful place to grow up. NZ is one big village, even Auckland. Gets a little boring for teenagers which is probably why so many of them smoke dope! By the time they're 20 they'll be hopping off to London to see other 'cultures' and 'further their career'. It's a natural progression for Kiwis. At least you'll have mobile videophone to keep in touch daily. My parents only had a letter every now and then as not even email existed!

For those that do venture out to or, back to NZ with their kids please remember that skin cancer is the number one killer. It's that hole in the ozone over Antarctica, caused by all the pollution from the northern hemisphere. It's real so, please, cover them up 24/7.
