Do you think the EU should be funding proper boats to bring migrants to Europe safely?

Been Reading the coverage. Sad

I think that morally we should help these people come to Europe safely where their application fur asylum can be processed properly.

We should fund boats that are seaworthy and take them to designated centres. Each country should take a proportion of migrants .

Surely that's the moral thing to do?

Because I was in a hurry! and making the point that the Arab world and the Arabian peninsula specifically has not been noticeably welcoming to refugees despite their proximity, shared language (okay with dialectical variations) and religious beliefs. Several close family members live in the UAE for example, but without a job, there is no residence provision on offer there. One could also point out that at the last count, the EU had 27 member states but, as I understand, most of the migrants appear to have settled on Germany, the Netherlands, Scandinavia and the UK as their preferred destinations, rather than Poland or Hungary, Latvia or Lithuania. Spain polices its borders very firmly and processes would-be immigrants in Ceuta. France is not welcoming, having a huge homegrown immigrant population which is deeply unpopular with many poorer French people.

Morally, I think we have a responsibility, but I don't agree with the OP that safe transport and designated camps would solve anything. Europe would be inundated. And while I think we should be providing aid to enable people to build safe, settled societies in their homelands, in practice I fear we would cause even greater volatility. We should remember that originally America's justification for the invasion of Iraq was to replace Saddam Hussein with a properly functioning democracy. That went well!
