This woman has 13 children already aged between 10 and 44. She also has 7 grandchildren.

And she's pregnant with quads from donor eggs and sperm.

God knows how her children must feel.

Should doctors have some sort of code of conduct with fertility treatment? Surely this is just wrong?

That's a lot of effort to go to just because the youngest child wanted a little brother or sister Hmm

LaVolcan · 13/04/2015 17:21

Pretty stupid at that age. T give a little brother or sister to a 10 year old! How many ten year olds really want a baby as a companion?

expatinscotland · 13/04/2015 17:26

I agree with Bowler.

My DD wants a dragon. Sometimes they don't get what they want...

blowinahoolie · 16/04/2015 15:04

Strikes me as being irresponsible.

LotusLight · 19/04/2015 09:43

Good for her. It's wonderful. Older parents often make the best parents. It's her body. I hate the nanny state. People can be responsible for themselves and people's views differ so let us live in countries where differences are tolerated.

(I reserve my right to have triplets in my 60s by the way).

Igneococcus · 23/05/2015 07:42

I haven't seen it reported in the British media, the quadruplets were born yesterday at 26 weeks, Dries 960 g, Bence 680 g, Fjonn 745 g, Neeta 655 g

fortunately · 23/05/2015 07:49

Selfish, irresponsible, possibly indicative of mental health issues and shocking that a clinic agreed to do this.

Dreadful.

AuntieStella · 23/05/2015 07:51

Gosh, those are tiny birthweights.

Are they somewhere with enough SCBU beds for all of them, or have they been dispersed between several hospitals?

Igneococcus · 23/05/2015 07:56

The article in Bild (Germany's Daily Mail'ish rag) didn't say anything else than that they are in intensive neonatal care AuntStella She is in Berlin, so will have access to the best care. I have a look through other German media sources to see if I can find some more information.

paxtecum · 23/05/2015 08:00

I think the doctors who gave her IVF must have taken a hypocritical oath.

It is truly amazing what doctors will do if you pay them enough money.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/05/2015 08:00

Utterly irresponsible at every level. The clinic was in the Ukraine, according to [[http://www.dw.de/berlin-mum-aged-65-gives-birth-to-quadruplets/a-18471498 this news report (not Daily Mail)].

I could not disagree more with LotusLight above.

paxtecum · 23/05/2015 08:01

I should have said ' what some doctors will do'.

Link again

Gileswithachainsaw · 23/05/2015 08:03

I was going to post that the chances of a prem birth are extremely high and how that would take its toll on a young fit patent with only that one set of babies to worry about let alone 13 others at home and the medical implications of her age. but I see they have already been born. I wish the babies well and hope they make it through. so very tiny Sad

it was so very irresponsible of her. She put her wants over everything. but I'd not wish what she's going through on anyone so let's just send healing thoughts to the babies. Flowers

Igneococcus · 23/05/2015 08:05

She couldn't have had it done in Germany as Germany at the moment doesn't allow egg donation.
There is nothing else I can find than that she is exhausted after the C-section but is doing ok and that the children aren't fully developed and the doctors are optimistic nevertheless. She has a contract with one of the commercial TV stations, so all other media outlets are just citing their press release.

Inkanta · 23/05/2015 16:30

She looks young for her age. I don't really want to do a judgy pants post. Interesting news though. Mmm....

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 23/05/2015 19:51

I think one needs to decide for oneself and not listen too much to the opinion of others she is quoted. (If that isn;t the most selfish thing I've read in a long time I'd be Confused )

Well that's fine then. Hmm. Presumably the "others" would have been her family (who will be left to raise these children when she isn't capable). Her Doctors who must anticipate the strain of a multiple pg on anyone, let alone a 65yo. Her friends maybe who asked "Why"?

Just because it can be done doesn't mean it should be done applies to a lot of medical procedures and fewer more true than in this case Sad Angry

And THE most illogical part of it..................... to give her 10yo their requested sibling. Would she have gone through it if her DH insisted on her having another baby at 65? Hell no. So why claim it was for the benefit of her 10yo? Who incidentally, has 7 other children (the grandchildren) in the family.

paxtecum · 24/05/2015 11:20

Lotus Light: people can look after themselves? I wonder if the 65 year old woman is looking after her prem babies herself.
I doubt it.
The Nanny state, that you dislike so much, is no doubt doing the caring and picking up the bill.

I suggest you get yourself some good private health insurance if you want triplets in your 60s.
When you realise that you can't get cover, don't worry the hated nanny state will help you.
