I don't know about any other working mums but I know that I personally have just about had enough of the mud-slinging that goes on in the press about how damaging working motherhood is to children. I know that the telegraph were just reporting on an issue (report into working mums in yesterday's paper) , but I am sick to death of reading virtually daily about all the things that I am supposed to be doing wrong as a parent. I HAVE to work 3 days a week. My darling husband who IS actually THE best father ever doesn't have the best paid job in the world and to afford our home I HAVE to supplement our finances. When is british society finally gong to start supporting parents and making them feel like they are doing the best they possibly can instead of chipping away constantly at our confidence? I am SICK, SICK, SICK of it. ARGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We should all agree not to rise to it and unite in harmony - WOHMS and SAHMs together. Hear my rallying call sisters!

Seriously though - don't give this media coverage a second thought....it's bunkum

Or we could continue to buy and read said papers and just laugh at them. Because they are so silly that seems the best reponse.

I hear ya HMC! Praise be to our lady lumps!

I hate the views of both sides - I look after my son Monday to Friday and I am far from idle - on Saturday and Sunday, I work because I need to earn to pay the bills.
I don't want him in a nursery but honestly feel exhausted because I feel like I work a seven day week - to the point that when Daddy comes home from work in the week - he can have tea, have a bath and a beer and relax - I am still going to stupid o'clock - but I wouldn't have it any other way.
Women are so pressured now adays - children need variety and more importantly a roof over their head, if going to work provides this, it is not a terrible thing.
Unsure if I could be a full time stop at home mom and don't understand stopping at home once the children are at school............? What would you do all day?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The thing that really irritated me about this article was the way they find two women who are at the complete opposite ends of the spectrum.

I can't remember what the SAHM said but I do remember finding her somewhat holier than thou about the whole thing and as for the full time working mum castigating SAHMs for being boring, I think she may have forgotten, oh sorry probably never experienced, the relentless grind of being at home, and what the hell makes her think that grunting on about her job makes her a more interesting person at parties.

Anyway I am sure they are two lovely ladies who just got misquoted by journalists so I will get on to the point I am trying to make.

Most of us are just doing the best we can. I'm going back to work in Jan when my son is 9mths old because I can't cope with being at home all the time and the money will come in handy. I admire SAHMs just as much as I admire mums who work p/t, f/t whatever, as now I understand that whatever choice you make requires compromise and a certain degree of sacrifice.

If the newspapers want to stir up controversy and discussion, why don't they discuss the issue of division of household chores between males & females ? I'm sure that would provide a much healthier debate.

Gremlin - what do you expect from the Daily Torygraph anyway? Their hidden agenda is that all women should be back behind the kitchen sink!

There are good working mums and bad working mums, likewise good sahms and bad sahms. Most of us just do the best we can and most couples need two incomes to pay the mortgage anyway.

I agree with you totally.
