Little boy has been removed from hospital by his parents

He is very sick, needs constant treatment. His parents have taken him to France.

I don't understand why the hospital didn't notice or alert the police for 6 hours.

The police won't comment on the parents being Jehovah's Witnesses.

It sounds wrong when the statement said he was removed without consent. The child is theirs, should be allowed to be in charge of him, but of course it is he that will lose his life if not cared for and that isn't in his best interests necessarily.

I hope he is found and can be cured.

I'm just appalled and heartbroken at this ridiculous and absurd decision made by 'authorities'.. There surely must be jobs lost over this atrocity of human rights.

Petitions signed and emails written.. Please everyone, share these links.

Our country is a complete mess.

CharlieSierra · 01/09/2014 15:29

BBC just read statement from the centre in Prague saying that Brett King applied to them on 20 August and they are ready to accept the child immediately if they get the medical docs from UK

GimmeMySquash · 01/09/2014 15:30

Look I can't see why the Human rights of a three year old and five year old have been ignored. A three year old sibling seeing a five year old sibling in hospital is not going to be a problem, she is not going to carry him out of the hospital and drive him abroad ffs. No matter what the parents did, the minors should be having contact.

The Guardian ran a piece by Sarah Boseley today that said: "They have been accused of child neglect, when if anything they have been too much involved."

How can parents be too much involved in making decisions that impact their child? Seriously? FFS.

Florencewinifred · 01/09/2014 16:00

Is this a public facebook group? I can't access it so I presume you have to have a facebook account? Can it be made public for all to see? Thanks in advance for technical info.. Many of us are not computer savvy!

LineRunner · 01/09/2014 16:04

Is it right that this 5 year old boy is in hospital and denied contact with his family members? Wtaf.

WetAugust · 01/09/2014 16:04

"Over-engaged parents" is the exact accusation our NHS consultant levelled at us.

It must be a phrase that they learn in medical school.

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 01/09/2014 16:12

Oh I know, WetAugust, been there done that with my own DC (albeit not cancer) and was proven right, which is exactly why the phrase annoyed me so much. I'm haunted by the knowledge that my DC may have been spared months of unnecessary pain if I had just shouted more loudly against the doctors telling me they knew best. A good paediatrician knows the balance between their medical knowledge, and parents knowing their children.

to let this all spiral is irresponsible if there are valid reasons for their actions.

From the point of view of the authorities they may have no choice. Once an arrest warrant was issued the matter became sub judice. That means they need to be careful to avoid saying things which may prejudice any trial. The authorities do not have any responsibility to give information to people who are donating money to this family, Equally, sometimes they just have to put up with the ill feeling. To do otherwise may be far more irresponsible than staying quiet. The family are not similarly constrained. They can say whatever they want.

The authorities may well know things that we don't which put this incident in a completely different light. But yes, it is also possible they are getting this horribly wrong and it is the disgrace it appears to be.

C&P from BBC Website

The Proton Therapy Centre (PTC) in Prague, Czech Republic, which received a request from Brett King on 20 August, said it can treat Ashya immediately if he is eligible.

Iva Tatounova, director of strategy at PTC Czech, said: "The centre is keen on starting the treatment in a few days. The costs would be dealt with later on."

She said the centre would need the necessary medical documentation before they could agree on the appropriateness of treatment, which usually costs £60,000 - £65,000 for children.

WetAugust · 01/09/2014 16:21

I'm sorry to hear that you too have to deal with the dregs of the medical profession.

So, according to the DM Aysha now has a guardian appointed and the High Court will review their decision on Wed. Meanwhile the Spanish judge has called for independent medical advide before he decides the outcome of the extradition hearing.

Plenty of money sculling around Portsmouth Local Authoprity and Southampton General Hospital and Hampshire Police for lots of legal action and expenses paid trips to the Costa del Sol for their ploice officers.

I wonder if those costs exceeded the 90K that the child's proton treatment would have cost.

Oh silly me - it's not even about money any more is it. It the State exacting revenge on parents that have had the balls to challenge what they have been told by the NHS.

That's how its playing out. So when you're told, as you will be, at the next General Election that the NHS is safe in our hands, ask yourself - is this really the sort of NHS I want?

prh47bridge · 01/09/2014 16:22

Oh please. This is not a party political issue. Please don't try and make it into one.

DuelingFanjo · 01/09/2014 16:23

for those doubting the similarity of this case to the Neon Roberts case you can see their appeal page here

It does seem to me like people were far to quick to dismiss Neon's mother as some kind of flaky new age quack for seeking alternative therapies alongside proton beam therapy.

TroelsNextCampaignManager · 01/09/2014 16:24

It's been reported that the UK police are in Spain to deal with the technical aspects of the warrant, not to question the parents. Surely if they had to answer criminal charges UK police would want to question them asap?
But then, the police previously have said the parents have done nothing criminal.
Hopefully the Spanish judge will see sense (where the UK authorities have not), release the parents on bail before the 72 hour maximum and permit the family access to Ashya. That little boy needs his family.

WetAugust · 01/09/2014 16:26

It is actually because nobody is offering us an alternative to the NHS They all want to preserve this dinosaur.

The father says that when he did ask for medical information to send to the Proton B providers he was stonewalled by the doctors here. Yet the hospital here says they assisted the father in seeking treatment abroad.

Someone's telling porkies.

Hurr1cane · 01/09/2014 16:29

Jadedangel I feel you. Although DS can talk (not well) and can walk. He has complex disabilities and I was seen as a pain for wanting to know what caused them (he was fine till he was 4)

I'm getting the VIP treatment now after they misdiagnosed him and told us he would die in childhood, then sent him for a brain scan which they said was clear but wasn't Confused

coffeeinbed · 01/09/2014 16:30

So the parent are over engaged and arrested for neglect at the same .

Which one is it then?

This is shocking.

Hurr1cane · 01/09/2014 16:31

Jadedangel there is new genetic research going on called deciphering developmental disorders, DSs DNA is going in for the research, it might be worth an ask
