Little boy has been removed from hospital by his parents

He is very sick, needs constant treatment. His parents have taken him to France.

I don't understand why the hospital didn't notice or alert the police for 6 hours.

The police won't comment on the parents being Jehovah's Witnesses.

It sounds wrong when the statement said he was removed without consent. The child is theirs, should be allowed to be in charge of him, but of course it is he that will lose his life if not cared for and that isn't in his best interests necessarily.

I hope he is found and can be cured.

I am not a criminal lawyer so I don't know what the parents can do to resist this, if they have been arrested but surely there must be something. They have not, as far as I can see, committed any crime and there is at the very least an argument that they have not caused their child significant harm by their actions - so a care order might not be lawful.

So it smacks of 'punishment' for daring to question the doctors, which is reprehensible.

I have just read on sky news that the older brother has started a fund for his little brother

mummylin2495 · 31/08/2014 16:51

C & P from sky news page

In a Facebook message, Naveed King said a fundraising campaign for his brother Ashya had been launched and asked those wishing to contribute to send their donations to a PayPal account at [email protected].

As much as I side with the family, I feel discomfort at this fundraising. The Hospital state they are going to fund the care on the NHS so what is the point in raising funds?

What have they been arrested for?

mummylin2495 · 31/08/2014 16:58

I don't have Facebook so I can't read what is on there but I can only suppose its to raise the money for the little boy to have proton treatment.

Hakluyt · 31/08/2014 16:59

Why do they need money? Do they need bail or something?

GimmeMySquash · 31/08/2014 17:00

Does anyone know how Dr's persuade the Police that such international arrests are required? Can a Dr go direct or do they have to go via a hospital legal team before asking the police to become involved?

Greengrow · 31/08/2014 17:01

They want to pay for the proton treatment the NHS usual so far does not provide in the UK which is available in the Czech republic where they have found a clinic who can help the boy.

I am not so concerned as to whether radiotherapy or proton treatment is better after a cancer or nothing. I am more concerned that parents should have a right to make an informed choice in a case like this. It is a libertarian argument and there but for the grace of God go we all.

GimmeMySquash · 31/08/2014 17:02

So do you have to have a degree for the Police to take what you say as serious, maybe those in Rotherham would have their word taken as true if they had degree?

The NHS stated that it it willing to fund the treatment. So why are they raising money? And are they still under arrest? And if so, why?

Hakluyt · 31/08/2014 17:05

I'm sorry, but I don't understand why the father is just being believed without question.

The father was not told the NHS would pay for proton treatment. He was told it was not available. If that has changed that's good news. Where is the link to that?

Hakluyt · 31/08/2014 17:08

I have no idea why they are under arrest. That's why I asked whether they need bail money. I have no idea why they need money- the NHS say they will fund the treatment.

I thought it was in the hospital statement- am I wrong about that?

Greengrow · 31/08/2014 17:09

The grounds are "neglect". Any social worker or police could use that against just about any parent in the UK - it is dead easy to make it out. It makes this kind of child snatching simple. The neglect of course is unlikely to be proved as the child still has his drip or whatever else he needed but the state and NHS doctors so powerful they will just about always get their way.

GimmeMySquash · 31/08/2014 17:10

They have a property that is not the family home they can sell to fund their time off work and hotel costs. As you say anyone can give to the fund if they choose to or not.
