bluejelly · 07/09/2006 14:30

There is more to life than work, but sometimes you gotta work to keep the roof over your kid's heads!
I had my dd at 26 and whilst I love her to bits in many ways I wished i'd waited to find Mr right and get a bit more established in my career

coderoo · 07/09/2006 14:32

but what diff does 5 years make
have em at 35 then
i suppose someo poeple meet dhs late
wodulnt you hthink it was odd if oyu met a woman and she has had her eggs frozen

rather bunny boiling?

southeastastra · 07/09/2006 14:32

the system needs to change to fit in with women and children, it seems the govt just want women to work work work, having kids seems to be seen as a luxury item.

iota · 07/09/2006 14:33

there is definitely more to life than work ,Cod - I've been a SAHM for 3 yrs - but I didn't meet my lovely dh until I was well into my 30s, so no early babies for me

expatinscotland · 07/09/2006 14:33

And who is going to pay for that?

This is not a risk-free process, either. Some women can suffer extreme side effects and even death from ovarian hyperstimulation.

Also, it's not been proven yet what the long-term effects of these huge hormone doses are on a woman's health.

I got a divorce when I was 30 b/c I wanted kids and he didn't, and I didn't feel there was anymore time to waste.

Barring meeting a man who was mature enough to want to have kids - next to impossible in Denver - I was exploring other options to parent, including having children to a gay male couple.

Prince Charming isn't coming, so if you want what you want there's no harm in going for it w/o him!

Blu · 07/09/2006 14:33

Couldn't possible have spent £2,500k freezing my eggs when I was in my 30's - as far too busy drinking myself stupid in bars. Or was I trying to buy a tiny flat so I would have somewhere to raise a child...or find a decent man who wasn't as drunk, or poor as I was? I forget now.

People have the info, they don't need lecturing about what to do with it!

expatinscotland · 07/09/2006 14:35

Can I just say, I don't know ANY women who put it off b/c of work?

For ALL of them, it was b/c every man they met was a wanker or worse.

Of course, some were terribly picky, but there are a lot of arseholes out there.

One of hte last guys I went out w/before coming here used to parrot, 'Breeding's overrated' repeatedly. Until I told him in his particular case, it was.

coderoo · 07/09/2006 14:36

lol atdenver men

were they all like dex dexter?

Blu · 07/09/2006 14:36

Why can't as many experts talk about how to make medical contingencies for me acting like commitment-phobes who don't wash thier socks? We hear so much about what women should do....

whine, bleat...but it's true!

expatinscotland · 07/09/2006 14:37

Who's Dex Dexter?

All the ones I met were twonks.

I went off American men once and for all there.

Blu · 07/09/2006 14:37

'men' acting like commitment phobes, no 'me'!!

MrsFio · 07/09/2006 14:37

pmsl at Blu!

its a ridiculous story. Why do they think it is so black and white

coderoo · 07/09/2006 14:38

here frp,dynassty

coderoo · 07/09/2006 14:38

ok so you are a man ina bar
you meet a gal
you shag her
you g o out for a few months
she reveals she ahs eggs frozen
you dump

iota · 07/09/2006 14:39

anyway, there was nothing wrong with my 42 yr old 'time-expired' eggs - the product of which started school yesterday

coderoo · 07/09/2006 14:40

eggtastic

Blu · 07/09/2006 14:40

Yes, if i was that man in a bar i would feel like a male Black Widow spider!

coderoo · 07/09/2006 14:41

not sexy

bu there you are
women (generally) want kids
whoa er we kidding

expatinscotland · 07/09/2006 14:41

I'd assume that if I met him a bar, it would never be a case of dumping, more like, in the morning, I got up and left, never to see him again.

Blu · 07/09/2006 14:42

Yes my fresh-not-frozen DS started year 1.

But we're on MN, so are Mums. i daresay there are many many 40 plus women who do wish they had frozen eggs. But it still isn't easy, even with frozen eggs, is it?

coderoo · 07/09/2006 14:52

jhmm
think we want asnwers adn action and solutions to everything

bluejelly · 07/09/2006 14:53

I wouldn't dump a man who had frozen his 'assets' for health reasons

Twiglett · 07/09/2006 14:56

Here's what I thought when I saw it

  1. as IVF only has a 25% chance of succeeding that's a really really stupid plan

  2. its a scare tactic .. if they're advising that it will make women think about it a lot more carefully .. egg harvesting hurts and demands huge commitment

so its a PR campaign to make people think they're not being told to have children earlier but they really are

clever eh?

(oh and you can't fight biology )

Rhubarb · 07/09/2006 15:02

Oh well said Twiglett!
