It's so sad. They still haven't found anything, but thinks it's crashed into the sea.

For anyone that hasn't heard

Invading anyone's space when they are distressed is a bit below the belt tbh. But what does that matter when there is a story to be told Hmm

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2014 15:29

Nothing to add but lurking for news.

VivaLeBeaver · 09/03/2014 15:30

The plane would have run out of fuel by now. Such a large jet could only be safely landed at a large airport and as it hasn't been I think its safe to say its crashed.

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2014 15:32

Just spotted that the two false passport holders had consecutive ticket numbers so chances are they were travelling together. Not sure if that makes terrorism more likely.

VivaLeBeaver · 09/03/2014 15:35

It could just have been people who have bought stolen passports so they can travel more easily.

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2014 15:39

Yes but they were travelling together. Doesnt make them terrorists I suppose but it's no coincidence there were 2 of them on the flight

FabBakerGirl · 09/03/2014 15:40

Consecutive tickets, bought same time same place, is all very suspicious.

EnlightenedOwl · 09/03/2014 15:40

Something has been spotted which could be wreckage possibly part of a tail/door but that has yet to be confirmed.
Radar readings reportedly show the plane "turned back" why no one knows.

ohfourfoxache · 09/03/2014 15:41

So which ones weren't allowed to board? Or did they check in and then disappear? I assumed that they were the ones with the stolen passports

isitme1 · 09/03/2014 15:42

Hope theres some news soon for the families of the people on board

VivaLeBeaver · 09/03/2014 15:48

If the plane turned round I wonder if hijackers were trying to aim for land to hit a city/landmark but crashed before reading their intended destination.

AchyFox · 09/03/2014 15:50

of broken wing tip in 2012 taxiing accident www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/did-this-broken-wing-weaken-the-plane/story-fni0cx12-1226849800220

They are also now saying the debris field is so wide that it indicates catastrophic structural failure at significant height.

livingzuid · 09/03/2014 15:50

This is so awful. And was really disgusted to see a pic on the BBC home page of a relative in China with cameras thrust in her face. Poor taste doesn't even begin to cover it. Strongly tempted to complain. It's obvious an incident like this is going to devastate people. Do we really need to see pictures of it? Can't we leave these people in peace?

Rant over. Do hope they find out what happens, it's all conjecture and Chinese whispers and conspiracy theories in the media at the moment. Malaysian is a great airline, flown with them lots. Terrible tragedy :(

ohfourfoxache · 09/03/2014 15:52

Hadn't thought of that, Viva. If there was terrorism involved, could that be the reason why someone hasn't claimed it, because it didn't happen "as planned"?

Can't believe this is happening. No one should have to go through this Sad those poor passengers and those poor families Sad

AlpacaYourThings · 09/03/2014 15:57

This is just so sad.

Completely agree with livingzuid the pictures of the grieving families are disgusting Sad Angry

AchyFox · 09/03/2014 15:59

Also I'm not sure how significant the passports are.

There are lots of passport thefts and their main use is in international travel.

It may not be that statistically significant that 1 or 2 fake passports are found on a flight of this size between 2 Asian countries.

alcibiades · 09/03/2014 15:59

Not all terrorist attacks get claimed. Some of the more "sophisticated" terrorist groups know that keeping quiet makes it more difficult for the investigating authorities - e.g. if you don't know where an attack comes from, it's more difficult to put appropriate security in place.

StealthPolarBear · 09/03/2014 16:01

no achy that's what I thought as well but the 2 fake passport holders bought tickets together

AchyFox · 09/03/2014 16:09

Yes, but I'm not convinced that's statistically significant either, SPB.

But that said the last contact sounds a bit suspicious:

The pilot, who asked to remain anonymous, told the New Straits Times that his aircraft, bound for Narita, Japan, was able to make contact using an emergency frequency. We managed to establish contact with MH370 just after 1.30am and asked them if they have transferred into Vietnamese airspace. The voice on the other side could have been either Captain Zaharie (Ahmad Shah, 53) or Fariq (Abdul Hamid, 27), but I was sure it was the co-pilot.There were a lot of interference static but I heard mumbling from the other end. That was the last time we heard from them.We lost contact.

BoiledPiss · 09/03/2014 16:13

Just marking for news, i hope the families get answers soon

Cuxibamba · 09/03/2014 16:22

Marking for news. How horrible.

hellokittymania · 09/03/2014 18:32

How can you travel internationally with a stolen passport?I thought passports reported stolen were cancelled??

AnyaKnowIt · 09/03/2014 18:48

They think that the plane broke up in mid air

BelleJolie · 09/03/2014 18:48

hello, from what I've gathered in the news, I think stolen passports are added to an Interpol list, which should be cross-referenced.
