on The World Tonight at 10. (It's not in the synopsis but was trailed, with the quote above, by Robin Lustig)

Good idea Mercy - I was left feeling frustrated several times today, especially at the ITV lunchtime news and Clive Anderson doing Jeremy Vine - they all missed the point and turned it into is 'she' a good guru or not.

Wonder if tomorrow's news will have picked up on the free speech issue?? Looks like there's something in the Times again tomorrow, but it's still focussing on the baby-rearing/do we need gurus debate...

Gillian76 · 08/08/2006 22:44

I do have to go to the toilet at the most inopportune moments...

Missed it

UrsulatheSeawitch · 08/08/2006 22:48

All the media have their own websites, so maybe those who have missed the point should have put to them a scenario where they are in MN's position?

gillian, there's wasn't really anything to miss. Just a v. brief discussion of the methods advocated. Nothing about the freedom of speech issue at all.

jamiesam · 08/08/2006 23:12

I'm not sure that I found the right place to post this on The World Tonight website, but I just posted:

Listened to piece on tonight (Tues) about (nobody). The issue with her legal action against Mumsnet is NOT whether her methods are right or wrong. (Opinions about (nobodies) methods are often very strongly held - and as expressed on Mumsnet, some support her methods and some very definitely don't.)The issue is about the right to debate her methods on a website - and the lack of a law to protect the website host/provider from legal action if someone posts an opinion on the website that is considered to be defamatory/libellous or otherwise.

I posted it here .

If I've done the wrong thing by posting this PLEASE click on the red exclamation mark.

If I've not put MN case very well to radio 4, please email them too!

Check out she who can't be named website for her version!!Statement issued today I think. Whatever about freedom of speech - don't forget we all have freedom to buy whatever books we want to. I'm guessing someone can expect sales of books to plummet...

Bugsy2 · 09/08/2006 12:42

Just checked out Nobody's statement. Doesn't seem quite right to me or to reflect the chain of events that we have been told by the MN team. I would like to say a great deal more, but I am nervous of getting Mumsnet into trouble.

heavenis · 09/08/2006 12:51

I've just read that statement too. It doesn't add up !!

UrsulatheSeawitch · 09/08/2006 13:06

I have just emailed her website suggesting - very politely - that in the interests of balance she should also publish (ahem) mumsnet's response to her statement.

(Mind you I headed the email "Mumsnet", on reflection that'll go straight in the bin, won't it. May send it again later under different title.)

"I think it is very sad that Nobody can't seem to understand that not Everybody will agree with one method. Somebody will disagree and Anybody should have the right to say so.... "

Yes there should be a right to debate her methods but NOT to slag her off personally and NOT to slag off the MNers who use her methods. I'm afraid it does get too personal on here and I do think some of the posters need to look at what they post. On another thread someone said other fora are too cuddly - well I'd prefer the cuddly ones. I tend to only come on here every so often as I do find the posts quite nasty at times.

But that does not mean that I agree with Lady Voldemort (or her lawyers who I suspect are driving this to get more fees and I say that as a lawyer myself) who should be big and ugly enough to take constructive criticism of her books. You can't be in the public eye and expect 100% adulation.
