Can I have an invite too? [email protected]

SaintGeorge · 08/08/2006 21:45

Once you are members you should be able to use the 'promote' button on the lh side to invite people you have email adddresses for.

Please feel free to do so as long as they are known to you as MN members.

I doubt I will have time to post on there tonight - too busy sending out invites

No I'm not new, I have posted a few times before and have been known to lob the odd controversial comment into the fray, but nothing too libellous! I do think however, that people can get extremely nasty on this site at times and maybe this will give users a shot across the bows - after all we don't want the site closed down (even though it could reopen using another ISP soon enough). I'm also a member of a school governor forum and we have lively discussions but it never gets personal like it does here.

And I only read about the rocket comment in the letter from the lawyers so I didn't know its original context. It just sounded ludicrously stupid but it shows you need both sides of the story.

Anyway comments are only defamatory if they are not true - the problem is the onus would be on MN to show that comments were true and how do they do that, even with limitless cash if they had it?

I think the unmentionable lady has done herself a lot of damage here (though I guess it will also sell her a few more books). In her position I think you would be able to take a little bit of criticism and accept that not everyone agrees with you. And despite what the BBC website says (that everyone either hates her or loves her), I am a neutral regarding her methods - I think they work for some people and not others. I had her book and took a couple of ideas from it and ignored the rest. I wouldn't go round slagging off the advice I didn't take, I simply ignore it.

MN could also offer people the chance to edit their posts - people could tone down angry posts then (and get rid of typos!).

joelallie · 09/08/2006 12:32

"MN could also offer people the chance to edit their posts ". Hmmmm..that would be helpful at times. But might make it all a bit too cuddly like several other sites I used to know.

ZippiZapata · 09/08/2006 12:48

editing posts is a terrible idea it just makes nonsense ...the law should allow that third parties are not responsible if they take steps to remove posts once alerted to any dubious content which is what mn have done.

MamaMaiasaura · 09/08/2006 23:56

Have just come on and seen my message deleted. Why? it wasnt offensive and was in support of mn withouth being slaunderous of other parties.

iwantmymummy · 10/08/2006 15:49

How about having a compleatly new forum set up, this format is outdated, you need a Yabba forum board, easier to manage and moderate, you can also edit posts!

I'm on another forum, and their's one person who had far more abuse thrown at them than nameless person, that he set up his own forum away from it, and is quite happy their.

The internet's a funny thing isn't it? People get slagged off every day without any problems, and a simple apology from the offending poster is more than sufficiant, just because someone is rich, does not mean that they can throw their weight around...and their's a lot of it to throw around too!
