Italian adoption case III

The last thread says all I need to know about those in the system. It also the most legally dangerous thread I have ever seen on mumsnet. I hope someone has been through the posts for libel risk. It also entirely one sided and biased and makes me laugh.

The defensiveness of those involved in this area will hopefully disappear once we have the openness that JH and indeed many others are seeking and obtaining as the judges increasingly accept that it helps everyone to understand what are very difficult decisions - parents, children and lawyers and social workers and expert witnesses in this field.

It will continue to be important always to get to the facts and where possible publish the facts. I continue to believe that almost any of us could have our children removed if the state set its mind to that. If publishing more decisions and giving rights to parents and those involved and the children to write what they like on twitter, facebook and the like and to let parents and children even when separated communicate and talk about any issues they choose will help then let us hope the law continues down that course.

John Hemming: The point, however, is that what is done is supposed to be in the best interests of the child and not the best interests of the local authority.

What precisely is your evidence that the decision to ask for further assessments was done in the interests of the local authority rather than, for instance, a genuine belief that the current assessments were inadequate or not up to date?

nennypops · 09/12/2013 14:25

John Hemming: However, what happens in practice is that the minister says to the LA Cabinet Member for Childrens services "more adoptions", the Cabinet Member says to the Chief officer "more adoptions," the Chief officer says to the divisional manager "more adoptions" and the divisional manager says to the team leader "more adoptions" then the team leader says to the social worker "don't send that child home".

Please identify your evidence for that, and specifically for the fact that that is what is said rather than "Please take steps to increase the proportion of adoptions of children currently in our care."

Some way back I asked if you had ever undertaken a cost/benefit analysis of the cost of dealing with a contested adoption, including all the costs of fostering, set against any notional financial benefit to the local authority in respect of each adoption resulting from the financial incentives you say are in place. Please could you answer that?

LakeDistrictBabe · 09/12/2013 20:48

LOL!! I thought all of you had stopped checking... Grin
Come on, leaving you the last pearl of wisdom about this case and the incredible, absurdly amazing child-snatching conspiracy that ever saw the light in Great Britain!!

I care enough about [baby P's mother] to have spoken to her recently on three sparate occasions by telephone,to have tried to console her for the loss of her child ,to have recommended Christopher Booker (sunday telegraph) and Sue Reid (daily mail),as journalists who could at her urgent request tell the public how she had been treated and that was what they did.

Foreign tourists and business visitors should if pregnant feel safe that their babies will not be confiscated and adopted by strangers. At present they are all now at risk

I live in a Nazi country and I didn't know. Come on, who wrote that in your opinion? ;)

Mignonette · 09/12/2013 20:58

Dear Lord.

I do wish people would stop throwing around the Nazi comparisons. They really have no clue. It is so offensive and sounds shriekingly hysterical.

Somebody truly has lost the plot.

Mignonette · 09/12/2013 20:59

Oh and if we really did live in a 'Nazi like' country, that twat would have been put to death by now for his rabble rousing views...

LakeDistrictBabe · 09/12/2013 21:06

"Oh and if we really did live in a 'Nazi like' country, that twat would have been put to death by now for his rabble rousing views..."

Yes. In fact they should repeat 100 times a day "God bless the Queen" Grin

I also did a (small) poll on Facebook.. apart from various -ahem- imaginative nicknames this lady got after this story, all Italian friends who followed the story beyond the DM/Telegraph article agree the baby should stay in UK. Of course, it counts nothing. Yet, it seems that the British child-snatching conspiracy has not convinced the Italian commenters. Phew......

CarpeVinum · 09/12/2013 21:11

I bet that bit of PR from a British MP cheered up the British tourist industry no end and made them feel very supported by their governement.

Got a link Lake perhaps the grandees of hotel chains, tourist board, attractions and cultural events might like to hear how an MP is trying to dissuade potential customers from coming here.

Who is the Minister responsible for tourism BTW ? (please let it be a LibDem) Does it come under culture ? heritage ?

Spero · 09/12/2013 21:17

Just had a predictably depressing day involving a six year old child who has been left in an abusive situation about 5 1/2 years too long.

Cases like this make me wish we DID operate a baby stealing machine to meet adoption targets. This child has been exposed to situations that will leave a permanent emotional mark.

I think my conclusions from the twitter experiment are that the legal bloggers are all well aware of JH and view him with similar distaste to the majority on this thread.

The journalists don't appear to care.

I don't know whether this is because they think he is a harmless funny little man.

My fear remains, as it has since I first got involved in this 'personal spat' about four years ago that he is causing enormous harm by 'advising' and 'helping' people under the guise of campaigner in the family justice system.

I think I have tried to do everything I reasonably can to make people aware of what he is doing but sadly I think it is going to take a tragedy for something to happen.

But even if a child dies or is seriously injured as a result of his 'advice' the depressing conclusion I draw from this thread is that some people will still find a way to spin it so that people like him remain the Knights on white chargers.

I think AngelaDavieshair is spot on - people like his conspiracy stories because they 'feel' right.

LakeDistrictBabe · 09/12/2013 21:33

@Carpe
It's this lady...... I don't think she is a Lib Dem... She seems a Tory.

Poor baby ;(

Devora · 09/12/2013 21:45

Carpe, Minister for Tourism is Helen Grant (Con) who is a solicitor in family law.
