According to the Evening Standard, in the Michael Parkinson interview with Kylie he asked if, at 35, "she was a little old to be considering children". Rude git.

so if a woman wants a child she can just have it willy nilly and not give a monkey's if the kid grows up with no dad, is that it JJ? do you really think this is an unselfish and responsible attitude?don't you think the child might at some stage actually want and need a father? please explain in case I have missed something here.

I am not talking about the woman's perspective I am talking about the child's perspective. What does the year have to do with it? please help as I really don't understand this stance.

repeat, I am not talking about a woman's 'rights' I am talking about the CHILD'S. What about their right to a dad? or shall we take that away from them too? sorry if I sound angry but I seem to have to keep saying the same thing over and over.I realise women 'choose'on a regular basis to have children without fathers, apart from using their sperm. The question I have is whether they think this is fair on the unborn kid who will never have a dad?

donnie · 28/02/2004 15:20

also curious as to what 'modern day women' are.Could you define please? just out of interest...

eddm · 28/02/2004 15:57

I'm not sure 'rights' are particularly useful when talking about two parents v. single motherhood as a choice. You are just born into your family whatever shape that is. And parents just do their best according to their circumstances. Otherwise you risk insulting families where one (or both) parents have died or isn't able to be with their kids. We all know that the desire to have children can be overwhelming, it's hardly surprising that some women who haven't found the right man still want kids. What's the alternative, shack up with the nearest bloke and don't worry about the impact a crappy relationship or bad father will have on your kids?

eddm · 28/02/2004 15:57

PS I'm reasonably happily married, BTW.

lou33 · 28/02/2004 17:31

Agree Spacemonkey. Dh thinks her sister is more of a babe.

Chinchilla · 28/02/2004 19:33

Lou33 - But she's got hideous fake boobs and hair extensions!

JJ · 28/02/2004 19:37

Hi, sorry, missed this all here, think I've caught up with it a bit on the other thread. And if anyone wants to do a link, they'd be welcome to do so and less lazy than me.

JJ · 28/02/2004 19:39

Except for the Dannii vs Kylie bit. Hmm... will have to bring in the big guns for that.

Where's my husband? I expect he'll need pictures.

aloha · 28/02/2004 19:40

I'm not insulting anyone from Yorkshire! My dearly beloved dh is from Yorkshire! And his lovely family too! Yikes. But in London, I do know that 40 year old first time mums are totally routine, but that's not always the case outside London, and my dh is 46 and the baby of his family and his brothers think he's BONKERS to have a young family at his age.
BTW I certainly don't think the only option for a 35 year old is single parenthood. Geena Davis got married and had her first child at 46 and is expecting twins at 48...

lou33 · 28/02/2004 19:52

He thinks she looks "more fun" Chinchilla.

Chinchilla · 28/02/2004 19:53

i.e. more slutty?

spacemonkey · 28/02/2004 19:54

danii is a hideous creature and just as toothsome as her sister

Chinchilla · 28/02/2004 19:56

I have to admit a jealous feeling for Kylie's pert boobs and bottom. She's one year older than me. I used to have pert boobs, until ds came along. Now they're trailing on the floor. Thank God for underwiring I say

lou33 · 28/02/2004 20:07

Yes Chinchilla, that's exactly what he means! But her prefers brunettes too.

Chinchilla · 28/02/2004 20:09

Men can be so obvious can't they! Mine is the total opposite. He likes women to dress sporty. I sometimes wonder about my man you know! Lace and satin has never done it for him...

noddy5 · 28/02/2004 20:15

sat next to kylie in a restaurant once and also saw her about 10 years ago in a club in Oz she looked gorgeous both times dp's eyes nearly popped out!

lou33 · 28/02/2004 20:18

I don't care who he fancies though really. We have a war going on atm re the wallpaper on the pc. He keeps putting monica belluci pics up, and I keep putting young men pleasing to the eye instead.

Dinny · 28/02/2004 20:20

Saw her in TV Centre once - gorgeous and SO TINY. Like a nine year old or something.

lou33 · 28/02/2004 20:22

Is her sister that small? I hear she is a bit of a pita (dannii that is).

Don't ever talk to him Beety...you'd never get a word in edgeways. I find him a funny choice for a chat show host. Come to think of it, so is Jonathan Woss!
