Just heard this on BBC News 24.

I hope everybody is ok.
What on earth?!!

OP posts:

They're still talking about a "rescue" operation, and there's at least one man unaccounted for; the dad of the young man who maintained an all-night vigil last night, and is still there now. He knows his dad was there, he knows the most damage was over where his dad always sat...

squoosh · 30/11/2013 23:29

Yes, I think the death toll will rise further.

squoosh · 30/11/2013 23:31

Poor John McGarrigle Jr waiting for news of his Dad. One of the news channels asked him how he had 'come to terms with his father's death'!!!!!

Firstly, his death hasn't been confirmed, secondly, it was only last night for God's sake. 24 hour news reporting really brings out the vulture in journalists.

scottishmummy · 30/11/2013 23:35

Harrowing to see mr mcgarrigle talkin waiting to hear news of his dad,the pain is evident

Shenanagins · 30/11/2013 23:49

The poor man, i was hoping that he had heard by now and it was good news.

TheArticFunky · 30/11/2013 23:56

They have to still treat it as a rescue operation I was confused when I read earlier that it was no longer a rescue operation. People have been pulled alive from under rubble days after an incident.

RhondaJean · 01/12/2013 00:02

Police have started naming the dead. This is the point where it suddenly becomes coldly horribly real with names and faces.

My thoughts are with the Arthur family from paisley tonight.

MadameDefarge · 01/12/2013 00:09

You know it can take the most tragic things to bring people together.

Thanks Ned for you update on p&B. Yes we had a spat over trolling, but at the end we were all getting on fine.

So so sorry for Lex and his family. And all the other families on here and P&B whose families have been affected by this.

I remember being outside South Quay station the night of the IRA bomb, and the only reason I didn't stay to take the train, despite the delays, was that it was my leaving party at my previous employer, I was already late, and I was worried about letting folk down. I got in a taxi, got to end of the road and the world ripped apart.

TeamJavert · 01/12/2013 09:27

It's so hard to take in. It's equally awful no matter where tragedies take place, but when it's your hometown it's even more of a shock.

I'm so sorry for those poor people who lost their lives, the injured and for everyone else affected by this. Your poor DH too,What a terrible job the rescue workers and police have ahead of them.

I'm so sorry for your poor DH,DidandB. And you,it must be so painful to see him like that.

I have friends who go there, and were supposed to be there, but thankfully one felt ill,so they didn't go.

Wonderful article Artisan,Thankyou for sharing that. I'm very proud of our wonderful city and its people.

Belindabelle · 01/12/2013 11:39

Sorry if this question is insensitive, but does anyone know how many people walked away? I have heard that 30 odd were taken to various hospitals, 8 are confirmed dead, but there was around 120 people in the pub.

BumPotato · 01/12/2013 12:54

Around 80? Little bit of arithmetic using your numbers.

Belindabelle · 01/12/2013 12:59

But that's just it they haven't said if around 80 people walked away. I suppose what I am asking is how many people are unaccounted for and could still be trapped in the building.

TeamJavert · 01/12/2013 13:01

There's no need to be so rude. They're still searching for bodies, and have just pulled another out of the wreckage so it's a perfectly reasonable question.

scottishmummy · 01/12/2013 13:06

Screw the nut, this isn't time for argy bargy

BumPotato · 01/12/2013 13:33

belinda bbc or sky have this morning named two people missing presumed dead. You're right, it is possible there are more. Let's hope not.

PacificDogwood · 01/12/2013 14:29

I think a large number of unhurt people and walking wounded were taken care of in the Holiday Inn across the road - I don't think that exact numbers were mentioned.

32 in hospital originally, 18 discharge, 14 still hospitalised, some with serious injuries.

I am not sure how many bodies are still unaccounted for, but very much get the impression that the operation has moved from 'rescue' to 'recovery' Sad.

RhondaJean · 01/12/2013 16:16

I should imagine counting people wasn't really on anyone's mind on Friday night. I am just so thankful that so MANY people, my friend included, seem to have been able to walk away.

I am irrationally scared tonight, DH has just left to meet his friend to travel to Glasgow for a meal and to see the Monday's at the O2, I know this is a once in a lifetime event but I'm finding it hard to settle.

squoosh · 01/12/2013 16:22

I saw a helicopter in the sky this morning and thought 'everyone who sees that will immediately think of Friday night', I'm pretty sure it will have been uppermost in the minds of the crew on board too.

MrsBramleyApple · 01/12/2013 18:00

I went to a Christingle Service this afternoon and we remembered the people of Glasgow in our prayers. I also lit candles in the prayer table before i left church.
I am watching the two sisters now on the news and am crying!

ssd · 01/12/2013 20:08

Rhonda, I can understand your fear Sad

PacificDogwood · 01/12/2013 20:16

Rhonda, I hope your DH has a lovely night out, you can relax a bit and he'll soon be home again.
I totally understand how you'd feel like this just now x.

LilBlondePessimist · 01/12/2013 20:44

They crew have been named as Cptn Dave Traill, PC Tony Collins, and PC Kirsty Nelis. Just realised I new Tony, albeit, not well at all. So so sad, feeling even more upset now, and wishing I was back home in Glasgow.

ssd · 01/12/2013 20:53

ds2 knows his son Sad, very very sad for those concerned.

Didiandb · 01/12/2013 21:09

I am probably going to get flamed for this...

I'm really struggling with the grief porn (I think that's what it's called) on my Facebook over the past day or so.

People who have no connection to anything at all, people who sometimes don't even care about police are all over with lengthy poems and tears and big posts on how sad they are.

I feel like screaming you have no idea!!! DH is in bits his colleagues are in bits and he is not close family. I can't imagine how they feel.

I hate everyone speculating and occasionally getting angry with the slow recovery process.

And I can't really even talk about it because DH has told me things that are private.

Have I made sense? Maybe I'm just tired. I think I am taking a break from Facebook for a little while.
