Did anyone see the women with TWENTY children yesterday?

One of my prisoners was reading the newspaper when I visited him for an appointment yesterday - Mail I think, although not sure. There was an article in there and the women involved had twetnty children, none of which were multiple births. Eldest was 27 IIRR and there was pretty much one a year after that!

TWENTY children, can you imagine?!

OP posts:
DumbledoresGirl · 15/07/2006 21:38

According to that article, she was the one who pestered her dh for more children...and then she left them all! That doesn't add up!

LadyTamba · 15/07/2006 21:41

If I had 20 children I be tempted to run away with a soldier too, after living with that level of responsibilty fot the last 20 years even just a nigh of freedom would be bliss, imagen the appeal of a future of it! She probably really worn out and just thinks 'enough!' not fair on her family but understandable imo.

expatinscotland · 15/07/2006 21:49

her bits are probably down by her feet.

gross.

mine look awful after 2, can't imagine 20.

LadyTamba · 15/07/2006 21:50

My bits look alright after 2 (I think!!)

My moms one of them who would be having babies constantly if she got her way (she is PG again atm) but this is only her 6th but she hopes to have another two afterwards.

DumbledoresGirl · 15/07/2006 21:52

How old is your mother Tamba?

edam · 15/07/2006 21:53

DG, haven't you ever done something you've suddenly realised you really regret? Been chasing a dream and then discovered you didn't want it after all?

Maybe she's woken up and realised she's made a huge mess of her life and is just running away from it.

LadyTamba · 15/07/2006 21:54

Shes 42. Im the oldest child (23) and there will be a 24 year age gap between me and this newest arrival to be.

She thinks that she will stop at 48.... shes constantly broody though.

expatinscotland · 15/07/2006 21:54

my maternal grandfather was one of 17, 15 of whom survived to maturity.

his mother got married at 15 and he was her 4th, and first boy, born when she was 19.

he never wanted any children and my mum's mum had to beg him for 2, born 5 years apart.

themoon66 · 15/07/2006 21:55

As I said before.... I shared midwives with Mrs Pridham and maybe coz I work in NHS, said midwife shared info she maybe shouldnt have

DumbledoresGirl · 15/07/2006 22:01

Hats off to your mother the Tamba. She's a year older than me and I know I couldn't go through all the pregnancy and disturbed nights thing again!

Edam, I have been thinking about your question and I know it is going to sound ever so smug, but no I don't think I ever have. I suppose I wanted to be a SAHM and now 10 years down the line I am fed up with it and wishing I had kept up some part time work, but that is hardly in the same league as giving birth to 20 children and then deciding life was unsatisfactory, abandoning them and starting anew with another man.

JanH · 16/07/2006 10:55

As ever, NoTW has the dirt.

Now what do we think?

hunkermunker · 16/07/2006 11:20

Sounds horrible if her side is true (themoon, would love to know what you know ).

WHY would you leave your children with such a violent man though?

JanH · 16/07/2006 11:25

"One Christmas he lost it, threw a cake and two trifles against the wall and got arrested."

Oh dear, I'm sorry but that made me lol. He beat the shit out of her with one hand while driving with the other hand - drunk - but only got arrested for assault on some puddings

JanH · 16/07/2006 11:26

Oh and then

What - gooseberry fool? pavlova? Not - cheesecake?

Blandmum · 16/07/2006 11:33

Mt great gran and her two sisters had 63 children between them. All single births. Not all the children lived though

DumbledoresGirl · 16/07/2006 11:46

Hmm I never quite understand how a woman stays with an abusive husband, but to go on having children by him? I don't know.... how sad some people's lives are.

BTW PMSL at your comments Jan!

edam · 16/07/2006 11:50

DG, me neither, but people do extraordinary things.

WideWebWitch · 16/07/2006 15:15

Bloody hell, 20 children. OK, well, if the NOTW is to be believed then I don't blame her for leaving.

munz · 16/07/2006 16:08

it's in the ppl as well apparently scandle! lol.

themoon66 · 16/07/2006 20:00

Well, this lady was in hospital at same time as me and we shared midwives. She is one strong minded lady and I personally cannot see anyone getting the better of her. She insisted on having home births with ambulances and flying squad etc on standby just for her, coz she was invariably admitted as an emergency in labour. Every time the hospital advised her never to get preganant again, but she ignored advice and went on her own sweet way. Dunno how hubby managed to bully her. She's the sort that would take on the world and win.

hub2dee · 17/07/2006 06:49

Nearly £12K per year in child benefit, LOL.

Blandmum · 17/07/2006 07:05

I can think of easier ways to earn £12K

edam · 17/07/2006 08:09

themoon, interesting what you say about doctors' advice - she managed to bear all 20 without anyone dying, didn't she (given there was one a year, am assuming no miscarriages). Although insisting on home births after previous emergencies is weird...

hub2dee · 17/07/2006 09:01

LOL

expatinscotland · 17/07/2006 09:30

what a weird story!

wonder if she'll have more w/the new bloke.
