Lavender, I am home educating, so need to work from home. There is very little in the way of work unless you have lots of qualifications.

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 00:30

sb34, ffs your predicament is hard to deal with, you cannot do a lot more at the minute, it's the year in year out people that maybe could work a little, don't assume that the arguement is thrust in your direction...am very sympathetic...just think if children are of school age, you can work, your's obviously aren't so is not applicable...Why don't you read the thread further down and see what is trying to be said

ScummyMummy · 22/02/2004 00:31

Lavender- my personal motto is: "Oh, that's too difficult, I can't, I've got this." It works for me.

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 00:33

stupidgirl, if you don't mind me asking, you must be very clever to educate at hone, are you some sort of teacher, (if I did this with ds and dd would fail miserably...as teachers at school are far better at job than I)

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 00:33

Scummymummy???

ScummyMummy · 22/02/2004 00:37

Thank you Scummy (great to see you back, where have you been???) that's really lovely of you to say.

Lavender, Scummy is right, I am motivated and have spent 5 years following up every opportunity (and in the process getting caught up in a couple of scams). Motivation and desire to achieve isn't necessarily enough.

"do you think that the people who have goodish jobs now said "Oh, that's too difficult, I can't, I've got this....we are capable of miracles....don't waste your talents...tomorrow could be the end of the world....btw. what is your dream job, or dream?"

Do you think I have said 'ooh that's too difficult?' I have tried so hard to find a way round this, and it seriously isn't that easy.

stupidgirl · 22/02/2004 00:41

Lavender, no, I'm not a teacher, in fact I left school at 11 with no qualifications. I have since taken 3 gcses and 2 a'levels, I am about to start a level1 OU course, but not very well educated, no!

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 00:46

sb34, it isn't shameful to claim beneifts (if really stuck), do not like arguing one bit, but are you sure you have read this because if you had you would see that it is people who claim when they could quite easily work (like my friend) that is not good for society)..

stupidgirl, are you some kind of teacher, because evryone I know sends their children to school (and because of that they can work...you MUST be very clever, or very disciplined to be able to do this...only heard of it once about 4 years ago)

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 00:48

quick question stupidgirl, how do you educate your children at home when everyone else sends them to school?

stupidgirl · 22/02/2004 00:51

There is no quick answer to that Lavender, unless you are questioning the legality of it?

ScummyMummy · 22/02/2004 00:53

Quick question for you, Lavender1, do you think everyone can be Madonna?

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 00:54

No, not at all just curious really!

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 00:54

No, not at all just curious really!

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 00:56

scummymummy, don't understand what you mean here?

ScummyMummy · 22/02/2004 00:57

I think that you are liv-ing in a Material World and you are a Material Girl, Lavender1?

stupidgirl · 22/02/2004 00:57

Well, it works for us. To me it is just the natural way of things and I am loving it

ScummyMummy · 22/02/2004 01:01

You implied in an earlier post that if Madonna can make it without benefits anyone can.

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 01:05

scummymummy, this is not making sense? fruit and veg thread has completely lost its standing?...Some people think in black and white...if I say Madonna they assume I mean if you are not like Madonna then you should be?....How misunderstood....the original reference to Madonna was the fact that she has had so many NO's setbacks, but they have not stopped her doing what she really really loves, she is someting to aspire to, in DETERMINATION not the money she earns (if you saw our house sm, you would soon realise that I am one of the least materialistic I know and probably you know)....sure you were not saying that just that your message didn't really explain ehat you were saying...was it this?

stupidgirl · 22/02/2004 01:10

I don't doubt that you probably can pull yourself up if you are determined enough, but I think, unless you're very lucky, you have to make sacrifices. Like if I was prepared to put ds in school, dd in childcare and go and get a job, I probably could get off benefits. But I am trying to give my kids a decent future, and chucking them into a crap school (which they all are around here) and get a minimum wage job (which is probably all I'd get) then I don't think that is going to give them, or me, much of a future.

ScummyMummy · 22/02/2004 01:20

Well, in so far as I understand your last message I disgree with it utterly. IME determination does not equal success. Madonna is determined, perhaps; she is also lucky. My own determination is shaky at best but I also am lucky in that I do lots of things- including some paid employment- that I really love. Logically, other people may be very determined yet unrewarded financially, it seems to me. So I fail to follow your argument. Sorry.

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 01:22

stupidgirl, am going to bed now as am very tired, but feel I have to comment on your last post.....Why don't you, do what you said...doesn't your ds miss the social interaction, your dd could get a few hours with other children (and you would get a well deserved break) and yes you might only get minimum wage, but wouldn't it feel nice to know it is your own hard earnt money (with prospects which benefits don't have) and you would not be on the same money forever (benefits as you know go up a little, your own job could, well the sky's the limit (training on the job etc.....seriously from my experience find what you really love doing.....I have a fab book which they have in all libraries which is brilliant to give you some kind of direction)....I am on just over minimum wage but know will get better (don't you think your children would be thank-ful if their Mum was doing what she loved and getting paid for it)...an affirmation I learnt in a job.."What the mind can conceive and believe the mind can achieve"....GOOD LUCK

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 01:26

Book is "What Colour is your Parachute?", published by Ten Speed Press. Well worth reading

lavender1 · 22/02/2004 01:39

Scummymummy, actually said determination has made madonna do what she loves doing (didn't mention anything about success?)....imo success doesn't equal your job, (didn't say that) but if doing job you love, and getting paid for it, than that is a start and then all the other things are there too if you have them already (family, friendships, leisure time etc)
