BBC link here. I reckon that's the end of his political career then.

What a stupid man. To lose your career over such a thing. Thinking yourself above the consequences of even a small thing like a parking ticket is a measure of the arrogance of a person.

AnyFucker · 04/02/2013 11:15

sorry, speeding ticket

NicholasTeakozy · 04/02/2013 13:01

Fuck me! He's resigned as an MP! Shock

A politician admitting his mistakes?

OP posts:
out2lunch · 04/02/2013 13:04

Ooh this means I get a new mp

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 04/02/2013 13:07

He had to resign, he's guilty of an offence. I should imagine he'll get a custodial sentence, good.

letsgomaths · 04/02/2013 13:57

Prison is the rightful place for many politicians.

PacificDogwood · 04/02/2013 14:00

What a stupid thing not to have owned up to in the first place, the worm!
Not sure I'd want him to lead a choir, nevermind have power.

Patchouli · 04/02/2013 14:03

"Having taken responsibility for something that happened 10 years ago, the only proper course of action for me is to resign my Eastleigh seat in Parliament"

Hahahahahaha...

taking responsibility, proper course of action, resign (like it's any choice of his)
what a man of integrity he is!

PhilMcAverty · 04/02/2013 14:16

What a fool to lose his career over this, but glad that justice will be done.

I suspect he'll turn up on some kind of quango though.

MrsSalvoMontalbano · 04/02/2013 14:41

shocking that he took it right to the wire - costing CPS (ie all of us) enormous amount of money. If he'd said at the outset he dunnit would have cost him his job, but maybe would have got away with a small fine. but his weaselly wife also deserves punishment - she's supposed to be a high-flying kickass, now she plays the little woman card...

slug · 04/02/2013 14:51

One is reminded of the Sword of Truth against the 'bitter lies' of journalists wielded by Jonathan Aitken. Four years later he was off to prison for perjury.

AnyFucker · 04/02/2013 15:04

I don't understand why he didn't take the 12 points and get a ban for a year or two. The rest of the Fucking Universe has to, but these knobs think they are not subject to the same roolz as the rest of us.

They usually find out the hard way though < shrug >

PartTimeModel · 04/02/2013 15:23

Indeed AF - it's supremely arrogant. "It will be far too inconvenient for me not to speed drive for a year. I'm far too important. Wifey step this way please"

Now his texts etc with his son are being reported. Looks like the son will testify he "forced" his then wife to take the points. How would you force someone to do that I wonder? Following with interest.

All in all it's a great tale of the arrogance of one man, and the revenge of his scorned ex-wife.

Beamur · 04/02/2013 15:25

Apparently the penalty for this kind of offence is very likely to be custodial. The Courts take it very seriously.
Silly man, he could have come out of this with a slap on the wrist and a penalty for speeding.

NotDavidTennant · 04/02/2013 15:33

Imagine he had won the Lib Dem leadership contest and not Nick Clegg.

specialsubject · 04/02/2013 15:47

exactly.

this waste-of-oxygen is a crook and a liar. He has clearly realised at the last minute that he would have to stand up and commit perjury, so in the interest of a lighter sentence he has finally owned up. Having wasted a lot of public money.

I only marvel that women continue to be willing to have sex with him.

AnyFucker · 04/02/2013 16:03

There are always women stupid enough to do that. Unfortunately.

SauvignonBlanche · 04/02/2013 16:05

What a twat!
Will his ex be done for perjury now?

mollymole · 04/02/2013 16:08

Hope he gets huge costs awarded against him for wasting police time etc etc and that his former wife gets charged with perjury, wasting police time etc.

Pancakeflipper · 04/02/2013 16:10

Why did he ever think to take the story so far? Idiot.

It was a stupid thing to do but to not admit it earlier is now going to really stuff up everything.

And in some ways it's a shame as he's a intelligent person. Except for how to handle speeding tickets. Pillock. What a bloody waste.

MoreBeta · 04/02/2013 16:12

If you go over to Guido Fawkes political blog you can read the texts sent by Peter Huhne (the son) to Chris Huhne in court today.

MoreBeta · 04/02/2013 16:13

They were read out in court today.

Tommy · 04/02/2013 16:15

am always baffled as to why these people think they will get away with stuff? Hmm

PacificDogwood · 04/02/2013 16:17

Is there such a thing as 'marital coercion? I mean legally - is there such a thing? I do realise it does happen, mind

GetOrf · 04/02/2013 16:19

Good lord at those texts.

What was he thinking.
