Words escape me, I've read the article on the BBC website about this and now I cannot get it out of my mind. The part which hits home even more is Leana Hoseas' Analysis on it I've cut and pasted, I've been in tears the last hour. How brutal, those poor babies.

The "massacre" video which has emerged from Houla bears the sound of a man screaming:

"These are all children! Watch, you dogs, you Arabs, you animals - look at these children, watch, just watch!"

On a bedroom floor dozens of little children lie dead, their arms and legs strewn over one another. Many of their eyes are still open, bearing a look of shock and fright. They are all covered with blood and obviously suffered terrible deaths.

A girl, who is perhaps seven years old, wearing a headscarf and pink diamante belt, lies face to face in death with a much younger boy.

Another little boy in a yellow jumper lies with his arms stretched out, almost cradling the head of the girl next to him. Blood covers both their faces and soaks their hair.

People off camera are shouting: "Oh God, oh God, oh God."
Surely its time something needs to be done.....this can't happen again.^

This situation is beyond horrific. One of the workers at my dd nursery is from Damascus, she has done a lot of fund raising over the last few months. She looks more haggard every day, she told me after this she feels as if she is living a waking nightmare.
Most days I can't look her in the eye. I feel dreadfully ashamed and impotent.

My DH is from Syria. His parents and youngest sister managed to escape a few months ago. We were able to visit them and the stories they told us were horrible, the violence is more widespread across Syria then the news makes out.

Sadly, his other two sisters are still there with their families. One lives in a very unstable area, they were shelling her apartment block the other night.

I just wanted to say that reading so many comments from people who care makes me feel better and I know they'd appreciate that the world hasn't forgotten them. Thank you.

Dear all

I'm a longtime lurker and occasional poster. I'm also a friend of the mum mentioned in the link above. If any of you would like to express your horror and disgust, please come to the protest she is organising. Alternatively, if you could share details of the protest, that would be wonderful. Details are below.

Stop Killing Children!

300 children and parents to protest at Syrian embassy as mum-of-two organises demonstration against the killing in Syria

On Sunday 10 June, from noon to 2pm, a protest against the massacre of 49 children and babies in Houla, Syria, as well as those killed before and since, will take place outside the Syrian Embassy, 8 Belgrave Square, London, SW1X 8PH.

Louise Tickle, journalist and mum-of-two, has organised the Stop Killing Children protest and is urging families and children to join her, her partner and two young sons (aged four and 18 months) in demanding that the Syrian regime and anyone else killing children in this conflict must stop.

She says, ?We have arranged this protest as a family because we are so appalled at the summary execution of 49 completely innocent children in Houla, as well as the killing of many thousands more over the past year.

?This is about preventing the murder of children and we want to make it a mark of the protest that our children, who live in a country where they can speak out without risking their lives, are visibly present.

?I?ve seen footage of toddlers - some of them barely nursery age children - who had their hands bound before they were slaughtered and it's not something we can ignore. We hope that other families feel the same and will join us outside the Syrian Embassy with their children. We have no other agenda than to urge that the organised killing of children must stop.

?I want the government here and in Syria to understand that people care enough to protest. I want parents of those children who were killed last weekend - and over the past year - to know that we care enough about their dead and injured children to shout our anger and disgust. I want all the Syrian children who are still alive today to stay alive. And I want as many people as possible to join me, Jim, Sam and Mungo at noon, this coming Sunday 10 June, to support our plea to Stop Killing Children.?

Over 300 people have already committed to join the protest, many with their children aged from a baby of five months to teenage boys and girls.

In keeping with the child-focused protest, the event will be followed with an informal picnic in Hyde Park. Supporters can follow the protest on the Twitter hashtag #stopkillingSyrianchildren

For anyone who hasn't heard about this:

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/syria/9317692/Syria-full-horror-of-al-Qubeir-masacre-emerges.html

Seems like the regime has learnt a valuable lesson: if you hide the bodies then no-one can conclusively claim you're butchered an entire community.

It's worse than Houla.

katkouta · 09/06/2012 09:43

Herrena, I linked to that on my previous post. Words fail me here. Apparently another massacre is planned in Deraa. Lets hope the UN act on this and don't wait for the aftermath.

Ah, I see - sorry katkouta
