that was honestly the first thing i thought when i saw that house and all those hamptons-esque photos of them: debt, especially b/c it was soon apparent they didn't come from monied families.

uwila, i'm a native houstonian. my parents always kept a house there - still do, in meyerland - although we lived abroad on and off in the 70s and early 80s (my dad also worked abroad on some assignements and we stayed in houston w/mom). but i was basically there from 1971 to 1989, when I started uni in Austin.

Maybe separate accounts and a "yes we're doing fine love" type thing. Dunno, but then I don't know how any wife (trophy or not) could not realise that her dh was going bankrupt and they'd lost the house.

I am with uwila on this one. Only we have to be really, really sure it was first degree murder.

she wasn't working and earning her own money, so they must have had a joint set up. also, where was he going all day? i mean, he was unemployed.

there are just some big holes that the trial will probably seek to fill.

there was a similar murder case in Geneva several years ago - the husband had failed medical school, but convinced his wife and family that he was working as a doctor with WHO. He stole money from in-laws under the guise of investing it for them to maintain house/lifestyle etc, and eventually killed his family

yeah, mum I saw that one on Channel 4. freaky.

the last two boyfriends i had before moving here were both from very wealthy families. both around that age, and both resident physicians. but still, they didn't have big mansions like that. it was more a matter of their folks having paid for undergrad school and med school so they had no debts, and then the folks had paid deposit and fees on their first homes whilst they got established in their careers.

my former SIL was the daughter of a sickeningly rich German businessman. she'd gone to princeton and to tufts to become a vet. again, her dad had paid for her entire education and living expenses whilst she was in school, something that probably cost about million dollars w/living expenses b/c both those schools are private. then set her up in a practice. she also drew a trust income. but even then her lifestyle - and they also lived in massachussetts, didn't approach the entwistles.
