Hosepipe bans and paddling pools

So if I fill our paddling pool up with old bath water and a couple of warm buckets from the kitchen sink is that gonna be flouting the ban?

Can't imagine a summer where I don't have the paddling pool out for 3 DSs Sad. Wouldn't use the hosepipe on the sly as have one quite nosy neighbour...

But if you technically don't fill the paddling pool from the hose but use buckets from indoors is it still going to get me a fine?

I'm sure it will get turned off, we have a water standpipe in the sand play area of my local park and as far as I know it recycles water anyway from a storage tank but that has not been turned on at all this year due to the hosepipe ban.

DH turned on the hosepipe to fill the paddling pool whilst I was I the shower the inconsiderate bastard, I was nearly scalded!

VivaLeBeaver · 25/05/2012 18:59

You can use a hosepipie for livestock though so if your paddling pool was for ducks you'd be ok.

SauvignonBlanche · 25/05/2012 19:13

I've been tempted to class my children as livestock at times. Grin

VivaLeBeaver · 25/05/2012 21:52

Maybe I could fill my paddling pool for the chickens, then if they decide not to use the pool it would be a shame to waste the water so the kids could go in!

Move to Scotland!! No hosepipe ban and the weather's not good enough normally for paddling pools!

CardyMow · 27/05/2012 02:20

I've filled mine with the water from the condenser tumble dryer. Apparently that's fine, I checked with my water company.

porcamiseria · 28/05/2012 16:08

I use mine (its a very small blue hard plastic one though) then use after to water garden

feel guilty now!

notfarmingatthemo · 28/05/2012 22:10

strangely as a blue badge holder I can use a hose even in a hose pipe ban. I think instead of banning hoses they should give a list of things you can't do instead.

I can not understand why no one is talking about the fact that we are all still paying the same water rates for less of a service. Fine theres a hosepipe ban and i cant fill my pool BUT, if thames water are doing less work because theres not enough water then why are we still paying the same????? They line their profit pockets rather than renewing very old leaky pipes. Patching leaks on old pipes is useless, replace them. We have no choice who we get our water from so who is monitoring the way they supply and charge?? This ban is set to last until the end of the year at least and they have a list of people exempt from the ban which grows by the day. This is a sign of things to come but we still pay the same? OH dont you love england, we are all pi---- off with the economy and now even when the sun does shine you are not allowed to cool off under your hose and you will have to sell your holiday caravan because the new tax has made it too expensive. I am soooo fed up and we have a place abroad with its own pool and are lucky enough to go there three times a year but how on earth will the majority of the UK afford to even stay in a caravan now let alone go abroad and oh by the way you cant use your hose pipe even to cool down when the sun decides to pop out...!!!!!! Im moving to menorca.

You should be on a water meter anyway. Most people are.

poze · 01/06/2012 09:20

I dont know anyone on a water meter and my husbands father applied but they could not install it in a convenient place because he shares the inlet with his neighbour and thames water did not want to pay out to make the modifications. We would probably save if we were on a water meter as we are careful with our consumption but am very reluctant as thames water will probably soon be increasing their tariff so it will work out more expensive in the future.

Why SHOULD we be on a water meter anyway is this law or something, do you work for thames water?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 01/06/2012 09:44

the state our pipes our in (most are from many many many years ago) the water companies CANNOT fix all the leaks, nt without replacing all the pipes (imagine how much your rates would go up, disruption there would be etc etc) What the water companies NEED to do is put in place desalinisation plants (this would work better if the government refused to give them their money at the beginning of the finacial year unless they put in place desalinisation) then there will be no water shortage, have you ever heard of a hosepipe ban in Dubai? And that's mainly a desert!

moaning about the leaks won't solve anything, unfortunately we all have to conserve water, a pain in the arse, but necessary.

Thank you for some constructive debate. I am becoming more and more fed up with this country, thats my problem.

The government have just announced now they are taxing charity donations!!! What on earth is going on??? Tax the -ankers who got us into this mess. I know a few people heavily affected by everything and the hose pipe ban just when the sun starts to shine just feels like the straw that could break the camels back.... so to speak. Where is it all going to end?
They have just reported on the news today and get this, the milky way galaxy will collide with andromeda and they definitely know when the domesday will be but the big crash will not happen for another four billion years so we can all sleep easy tonight. How much money has been thrown into researching this kind of pointless info?? They could have replaced all our water pipes!!!!
