So the verdict on the riots is in

Police should be able to use all means next time including live ammo.

Excuse me? so after the riots that where sparked by the shooting of an unarmed man, the toffs in charge of the review think it's a good idea for the police to shoot all those unruly serfs, should they dare do it again.

The day the police shoot a rioter will be the dawn of the revolution, when this system is smashed and the politicians dragged from their beds and lynched in the streets.

I do think on the whole tho the police have more sense then to do what we condemn so many others for doing.

'The day the police shoot a rioter will be the dawn of the revolution, when this system is smashed and the politicians dragged from their beds and lynched in the streets.'

Hahaha.
That's the stupidest (and funniest) thing I've read on MN for a long time.

RyokoTheRedNosedLamedear · 23/12/2011 18:16

Is it really? and I'm sure if I said to you in July there would be 3 days of rioting in London, with shops and cars burned etc you would think that was funny too as that would never happen.

Carry on spitting and blethering (if your blood pressure can take it) you professional victim, you.
You live in Britain m'dear, a country half the world is gagging to get into, not 18th century Russia.

RyokoTheRedNosedLamedear · 23/12/2011 18:24

My blood pressure is fine my dear.

and I know that there are many in this country who couldn't give a flying fuck about anything, who see no future and don't care if they live or die.

OP posts:
moondog · 23/12/2011 18:26

Christ, grow up.

RyokoTheRedNosedLamedear · 23/12/2011 18:27

Go and hang around some council estates and shit holes for a few years, then you will see.

OP posts:
moondog · 23/12/2011 18:28

I have done-for many years.
Hence me knowing (as opposed to just thinking) you are talking shite.

RyokoTheRedNosedLamedear · 23/12/2011 18:31

So living on a council estate for 25+ years and knowing many people from other estates. = talking shit to you?

Yeah whatever.

OP posts:
tiredemma · 23/12/2011 18:34

You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

giveitago · 23/12/2011 19:17

You show no empathy at all for the victims in all of this - none whatsoever for people who are just getting by but burnt out of their homes running for their lives (I assume you have a home - they don't - and they were renters in the private sector with no access to council flats) - for the foreign student who was mugged and then 'helped' to his feet by passers by who then mugged him again.

Because you live on a council estate? Oh please.

Do you condone all of this because you were involved or just enjoy making bullets for others to fire?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 23/12/2011 19:29

Haven't you got some balloons to blow up or something OP? Because with the amount of hot air you're spouting, you could probably do the whole estate. You are talking crap.

SardineQueen · 23/12/2011 19:37

"The main verdict is that the riots spread because the police didn't gain control of the original incident,"

The police caused the whole thing in the first place though. Through decades of treating members of certain communities like scum, a catalogue of deaths in police custody with no-one ever being prosecuted, repeated lying about situations and only coming clean when they got found out and finally shooting a man and then lying about the circumstances again.

Honestly what do they expect. People get angry.

SardineQueen · 23/12/2011 19:40

Can anyone link to the report and findings, I can't find it on google at the mo.

giveitago · 23/12/2011 20:05

I lived in private rented shitholes for years very poor and no access to benefits or social housing. I can honestly say that nothing would make me harm another person or take something that wasn't mine. That's my choice.

RyokoTheRedNosedLamedear · 24/12/2011 17:50

What the hell has empathy got to do with anything?, this thread is not about sympathy, empathy or whatever, it's about facts.

here are the facts, there are plenty of people who have been pissed off for years and they don't give a flying fuck about you and your car and your flat etc, etc. The police have been pissing people off for years, the politicians have been calling people scum for years.

A man was shot by police (again) who whitewashed over the details to cover their arses (again), they treated a peaceful protest with disdain and the result was 3 days of rioting.

So I ask you all to forget your sentimentality and put your logic hats on and tell me this, what do you think will happen if another riot happens and the police shoot a rioter dead?.

if you think they will all run off home to mummy and never dare do it again, you are a deluded fool.

'There are streets of houses here worth half a mil plus, I found it interesting to note that only the ones that looked the most fancy single occupancy ones had smashed windows, not the ones that look a bit shit or have been converted into multiple flats, and the cars that had there windows smashed where all the Jags, newer Mercs, Hummers etc'

Oh thats ok then. Because probably those people just had their houses/cars etc given to them and have never worked or anything. Hmm It sounds like you are smug weren't too sad that these people had their belongings vandalised, which doesn't reflect that well on you OP.

I have friends whose small, hard to build up, business was affected in the riots and will be in the future due to higher insurance rates etc.

I don't particularly agree with shooting people on the streets, but there need to be deterents!

creighton · 24/12/2011 18:33

After the initial upset at the way the police behaved, the rest of the rioting was just theft and destruction. Did any police stations, or council buildings get burnt down? it seems that the shop where the rioters families buy their milk and bread were burnt down, people's homes were burnt down, businesses built over generations were burnt down. I hope the police pursue these criminals right into next year. There was no political protest, it was just trainers and tvs. The first people to be prosecuted were not protesting about poor living conditions and unemployment, they were teaching assistants, students, etc. They are opportunistic, theiving trash. These people and a terrorist threat are the reason the army is going to be used to 'protect' the Olympic Games next year. Did any of them raid Waterstones and take home the latest Booker prize winner or a dictionary?

SardineQueen · 24/12/2011 19:14

It wouldn't have happened if the police hadn't shot someone and then lied through their teeth about the circumstances. Again.

tigerchilli · 24/12/2011 23:30

I'm not happy about shooting people on the streets unless it's a standoff situation, hostages etc. by an armed person. Anything else is sliding into a police state.

"Something is rotten in the state of Denmark." Shakespeare

But I fear that introducing lethal methods of control is not the answer because we do not know where it will end.

moondog · 24/12/2011 23:42

'there are plenty of people who have been pissed off for years and they don't give a flying fuck about you and your car and your flat etc, etc.'

'all the little hatchbacks and the Fords etc where (sic) left intact.'

Phew, thank God I've gpot a Ford eh and escape the Wrath of The Oppressede.
Shall give the Volvos a body swerve from now on.

DeckTheHugeWithBoughsOfManatee · 24/12/2011 23:53

Haven't you got an essay to write or something, OP? Surely with the new higher tuition fees you want to make sure you get at least a 2:2? I mean, I know that with the banking crash and all you'll now never get the job in financial services that daddy said you should, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't work hard Smile

goodasgold · 24/12/2011 23:56

'In Syria they are rioting and demonstrating for democracy, in England they are rioting and demonstrating for leisurewear.' Noel Gallagher

ChickenLickn · 25/12/2011 02:12

Police behaviour was out of control, however it is the underlying causes that enable a police force to behave with disregard and disrespect to its population that should be addressed.
This only happens when police are able to target an underclass with impunity. You would not see this type of police behaviour towards a powerful middle class or upper class society.

Therefore it is the inequality in the society that is the root cause. It generates both anger towards the police and anger at inequality, which makes the underclass feel that the place where they live is not their own, where they do not feel a sense of loss in destorying their own neighbours and neighbourhood.
When an underclass feels unfairly targetted , and without a legitimate voice to raise and address concerns, Inequality due to poverty which mean they do not have the lives considered normal or adequate by the population.

youngermother1 · 25/12/2011 02:25

Ryoko - get a life, oh and blaming the tories is wrong. Foe 13 years from 1997, the labour party were in power and, if they had got it right, all those rioters would be happy and well educated, with lots on money and an equal society.
Sorry that was obviously true and the tories destroyed it all in 6 months of government - what bastards!!

moonferret · 25/12/2011 02:58

Ryoko is absolutely correct. I can't be bothered with an essay on the subject, but the police in this country are out of control as it is, they don't even obey the law much of the time. And to the person who quoted Noel Gallagher..d'oh!
