Dutch woman mag calls Rihanna the ultimate n*****bitch (as a compliment!)

ARE THEY INSANE?

Their 'apology' is insane as well.

In an article published in the latest issue of Dutch fashion magazine Jackie, the magazine offers a little advice on how to dress like Rihanna without looking like the ?ultimate N*** Manbitch.? That?s right. No typo there. Check out the full English translation.

English Translation:

She has street cred, she has a ghetto ass and she has a golden throat. Rihanna, the good girl gone bad, is the ultimate n***bitch and displays that gladly, and for her that means: what?s on can come off. If that means she?ll be on stage half naked, then so be it. But Dutch winters aren?t like Jamaican ones, so pick a clothing style in which your daughter can resist minus ten. No to the big sunglasses and the pornheels, and yes to the tiger print, pink shizzle and everything that glitters. Now let?s hope she won?t beat anybody up at daycare.

Two hours ago, Jackie Editor in Chief Eva Hoeke posted the below apology on the magazine?s Facebook page:

Dear readers,
First: thanks for all your responses. We are of course very fed up over this and especially very
shocked. However I?m glad that we?re engaging in a dialogue on this page ? not everybody does
that. Thanks for this. Other than that I can be brief about this: this should have never happened.
Period. While the author meant no harm ? the title of the article was intended as a joke ? it was a bad joke, to say the least. And that slipped through my, the editor-in-chief?s, fingers. Stupid, painful and sucks for all concerned. The author has been addressed on it, and now I can only ensure that these terms will no longer end up in the magazine.

Furthermore I hope that you all believe there was absolutely no racist motive behind the choice of words. It was stupid, it was naive to think that this was an acceptable form of slang ? you hear it all the time on tv and radio, then your idea of what is normal apparently shifts ? but it was especially misguided: there was no malice behind it. We make our magazine with love, energy and enthusiasm, and it can sometimes happen that someone is out of line. And then you can only do one thing: apologize. And hope that others wish to accept it.

From the bottom of my heart I say it again: we never intended to offend anyone. And I mean that.
Regards,
Eva Hoeke

So, as editor in chief, Hoeke had no idea that this was offensive before running it and actually considered it a joke? In addition to being blatantly racist, calling Rihanna Jamaican and actually suggesting that mothers dress their daughters like her, this article is just wrong from every angle.

According to our source in Holland, Jackie is a well known fashion publication in Holland with a circulation of 57,700 copies per month.

The AIBU is what?

PlumpDogPillionaire · 19/12/2011 21:54

Just Shock and WTF? really.
Thought about adding Biscuit but that doesn't do justice to the surreal level of stupidity of that article.
Don't know what else to say.

ageperfect · 19/12/2011 22:01

I read in DM , in Portugal, she was verbally attacked by some racist s...!!! People are really bad....Good for her that she didn't keep silent....Enough is enough...What we all need accept ,as a humans, is that we all are different=once we do that it is much easier to go through life with no prejudice about each other. Poor girl. She is doing what millions of other pop,rnb ,rock or dance stars are doing...And to be attacked because of the colour of the skin is totally unacceptable ......

IneedAChristmasNickname · 19/12/2011 22:02

My brother has a pub in a small village in Somerset. The locals use the n word, because according to them 'it doesn't actually offend them though' and 'we don't have any here anyway, so why does it matter if we use it' I was Shock and Angry when I heard this!

BlissfulMistletoe · 19/12/2011 22:11

The n word isn't acceptable to use, and i have heard people defending themselves by saying well black people call other black people n so what's the problem :(

shinyblackgrape · 19/12/2011 22:23

Wow.... Just wow. If you hadn't posted the link I would have truly thought this was some bad private eye wind up

However, what the hell is a "man bitch" though? Are they also saying rhianna looks like a man too? Or is this some other down with the kidz thing I've missed - as well as referring to black people as n***s Xmas Hmm

OliviaMumsnet · 19/12/2011 22:24

hi there
We'll move this to in the news
Thanks
M Towers

CogitoErgoSometimes · 20/12/2011 08:25

The Dutch writer was definitely using controversial language to make an ironic point. Rhianna's songs have plenty of references to sex and violence - calling herself a bitch etc. She's not exactly going for the choirgirl image. Jackie magazine might be trying to reposition themselves as more edgy. Expect the whole thing is a publicity stunt

Beaglefox · 20/12/2011 08:36

WTF?! There's trying to be 'street' with the writing and then there's just plain insulting. I don't blame the writer as much as they clearly don't really know what they're doing but the editor who must have checked the piece should have really known better. It's starting to get in the news over here as well, i've just read it www.theweek.co.uk/people/43768/ghetto-ass-and-n-word-mag-trouble-over-rihanna i wonder how big of a storm this is going to kick off, plus she only had a nasty racist encounter yesterday. I know she can take it but i'm starting to feel sorry for Rihanna

VivaLeBeaver · 20/12/2011 08:44

I would never use the n word and thinkmit is racist, etc.

Though interestingly on twitter yesterday Rhianna used it herself. Some racist twat told her that black people were shit and she said "needless to say the N*** in me came out"

coldwed · 20/12/2011 09:26

Rihanna's response

Rihanna's response via twitter

@evajackie I hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful, and rather desperate!! You ran out of legit, civilized information to print! There are 1000's of Dutch girls who would love to be recognized for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article. Instead, u paid to print one degrading an entire race! That's your contribution to this world! To encourage segregation, to mislead the future leaders to act in the past! You put two words together,

@evajackie with the intent of abasement, that made no sense..."NIGGA BITCH"?!....Well with all respect, on behalf of my race, here are my two words for you...FUCK YOU!!!

OP posts:
coldwed · 20/12/2011 09:27

Gotta love Rihanna.

OP posts:
CogitoErgoSometimes · 20/12/2011 09:31

Definitely a publicity stunt all round. The correct response to a poor-taste article is, as any media adviser will tell you, a dignified silence. Rise above it. Rhianna, by tweeting obscenities, shows that she wants to keep the story in the papers.

coldwed · 20/12/2011 09:37

A publicity stunt for who? would the magazine want to drag their name in dirt - racism dirt at that?

How can you reply eloquently to racism? I know Rihanna def spoke for me when she said - on behalf of my race, here are my two words for you...FUCK YOU!!!

OP posts:
CogitoErgoSometimes · 20/12/2011 09:43

Sink to everyone's level why don't you? Hmm The Jackie magazine I remember has a very 'safe' dull image and this will get people talking so it's good publicity. And you don't reply, eloquently or otherwise, to stupid magazine articles.... every celeb knows that. You certainly don't go public spitting vitriol because that just makes you look like a nasty piece of work. You either go for a libel action or you get your people to threaten the mag to issue an apologu and donate some money to your favourite charity

LynetteScavo · 20/12/2011 09:48

"And that slipped through my, the editor-in-chief?s, fingers."

You need to get the sack then, love.

coldwed · 20/12/2011 09:49

Well that is why I like Rihanna - a hot potty mouth. Sick of celebs making statements behind their people, especially on racism. She is probably from the school of MX - fight fire with fire.

Go RiRi!

OP posts:
CogitoErgoSometimes · 20/12/2011 10:05

And why is 'hot potty mouth' a good thing but a 'manbitch' a bad thing? I really don't like the kind racist rubbish used in the article but celebs that trade heavily on a racial stereotype image of being trashy, foul-mouthed or keeping a 22 gun handy, shouldn't be too surprised if it comes back to bite them occasionally.

coldwed · 20/12/2011 10:14

Really, Cogito? who mentioned anything about manbitch? you either are deliberately missing the point or your agenda is showing. Let me break it down to you...they used the N fucking word. That is what people (rightly so) and Rihanna are up in arms about it.

I as a black woman LOVE the fact that another black woman who has a huge platform has spoken out in anger about it rather than hide behind her PR, to please the massa.

And how does Rihanna (your words) trade heavily on a racial stereotype image of being trashy, foul-mouthed or keeping a 22 gun handy - are you saying that is a racial stereotype to blacks? to whom? You? explain yourself and don't hold frickin back.

Go RiRi!

OP posts:
coldwed · 20/12/2011 10:17

trade heavily on a racial stereotype image of being trashy, foul-mouthed or keeping a 22 gun handy - oh yeah we should all keep in line in case it comes back to bite us. Please, black people go through daily shit...no need to keep in line for anyone. No-one is that important.

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 20/12/2011 10:17

Does anyone want to comment about the fact that yesterday Rhianna used the N word about herself on Twitter?

Someone up thread say that they see an excuse trotted out by white people is that "well black people use the word about themselves so I thought it was OK"

Do many/some/a few black people think its OK if they use hte word but are then up in arms if someone else uses it? Don't people think it would be better all round if everyone, including black people stopped using it?

coldwed · 20/12/2011 10:23

Viva, I as a black person never use the N word and nor do I know anyone who is black who uses it.

Some of the African American community of young have adopted the n.i.g.g.a tag, but they do not represent the majority of black people who hate that word. Their reasoning is that they're taking the power off a a very hurtful word loaded to hurt them and using it as a term of affection towards each other.

That argument they use it themselves wears thin. If you know a word has the potential to offend, you do not use...whatever race you're.

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 20/12/2011 12:26

Coldwed - I totally agree with you, though not being black I wondered if I was missing something. I've never liked hearing the word used by anyone, even a black person and its not as common now but 10 years ago there was a lot of it about in music.

I think that Rhianna is right to be offended by what this magazine has written but I think she's wrong to happily use the word in public conversations on Twitter, etc. Its not a good example.

donnie · 20/12/2011 13:10

but does she not refer to herself as a n**r? I saw her twitter page yesterday or the day before and it was peppered with the N word. Why is it ok for her to say it?

IMO she is foul mouthed and dresses like a porn star. Hardly something to be proud of, no? and has an autotuning dependency issue (just in case anyone rushes to her defence claiming vocal talent).

She is a piss-poor example to young girls.

coldwed · 20/12/2011 17:04

Donnie, Black people are not monolithic. If this is the way that Rihanna is inclined to respond when she is addressed or referred to in such a vicious and vile manner then it is a reflection on her as an individual and not the entire Black race.
