Did you read it and if you did what did you think?

FWIW I agree with her, will probably be stoned now.

Oh Tamum, I am sorry. I owe you a huge debt, but I was chatting to Enid about it on another thread recently. I love you too!

tamum · 09/01/2006 19:29

That's alright, I love you too

Blu · 09/01/2006 19:29

So Enid, India only became spiteful and judgemental and horrible to au pairs once she became a mother?
We should direct Kate Figes to her!

lovecloud · 09/01/2006 19:32

these discussions go around and around.

we all know that its not good for children to be away from your home and mother 5 days a week all day.

some people do it because they want to - cant understand their minds and some people do it because they have to - kind of sympathise with the pressure of debts and bills but still dont get that they can do it.

i am in debt and i struggle every day but i dont care if it means i get to be with my dd. i work part time and never make ends meet.

it irritates me (not so much on this thread but on others) how some mums think its ok - they need to get real and save for their childs future therapy!!!

part time mums are not included here, i am talking about the 10 hour a day, five days a week and from babies upwards.

their answer to people like me are "you are narrow minded"... whatever!!!

codnotamod · 09/01/2006 19:32

ahema
the wolf book
why is it good and tamum have you any odl oens?

tribpot · 09/01/2006 19:35

lovecloud, you're narrow minded.

Childcare is an issue for parents, not mothers.

Aloha · 09/01/2006 19:36

It's really, really funny. Honest it is. It's about a wolf who is desperate to eat a little girl called Polly, and devises ever more desperate cunning plans to do so (often based on nursery rhymes, fairy stories or topical news stories, but who is always calmly and kindly thwarted by Clever Polly, who isn't as sanctimonious as she sounds. Lots of very dry humour. Such as when the wolf says that having children would have spoilt his elegant bachelor lifestyle (cue ds saying, 'well, it hasn't spoilt mine!'). Hard to describe but v amusing. Dh thinks so too.

lovecloud · 09/01/2006 19:36

whats narrow minded about what i said?

its not what i think

its not right full stop

tell me the narrow minded part of it?

codnotamod · 09/01/2006 19:37

codnotamod · 09/01/2006 19:38

tribpot · 09/01/2006 19:39

"It's not what I think.

It's not right full stop"

[I put in the punctuation for you my dear]

That is what you think. You are not, alas for you, in a position to judge on the choices made the human race as a whole. That's not right. Full stop.

Aloha · 09/01/2006 19:40

Yes, that is funny. I love wolf stories. Esp the gobbling up.
I like it when the wolf makes a really amateurish Gingerbread House to tempt Clever Polly a la Hansel and Gretel. Basically a cardboard box with a chocolate bar taped to it.

codnotamod · 09/01/2006 19:40

.....wolves anyone?

codnotamod · 09/01/2006 19:40

lovecloud · 09/01/2006 19:41

i am happy to called narrow minded then.

i know whats right and so do you.

hotmama · 09/01/2006 19:41

This kind of article pisses me off. There was another one in the ST supplement re styles of parenting. Whatever you do as a parent will be wrong in someones opinion!

I like to think that everyone tries to do the best for their own children - but what is right for one mum may not be right for others.

Shock horror - I could be a SAHM but it isn't the right thing for me for others it is. I have just gone on maternity leave and dd1 is still going to go to nursery for 3 days a week - does this make me a bad selfish mum? Or a caring mum who wants to give some attention to dd2 and one who wants to give stability to her dd1 - who enjoys nursery - and one that has a good national reputation etc - I took care in which one I chose.

Quite frankly, I don't need other mums to give me hang-ups - whatever we do I'm sure our children will think we've done wrong anyway - even if we thought that we had their interests at heart.

Aloha · 09/01/2006 19:43

I don't have this book. Got it mixed up with Little Red Riding Wolf and the Big Bad Girl, which is also funny.
I like the sound of this one.

lovecloud · 09/01/2006 19:44

hotmama

three days a week is not the same as 10 hours 5 days a week.

nursery is good for children but so is being with their mum so i think you have a good balance.

satine · 09/01/2006 19:44

Completely agree with India. It is desparately sad to think of little toddlers being packed off to busy nurseries all day, every day. All the justifications in the world don't change that.

codnotamod · 09/01/2006 19:44

i cnt think of any more aloha

Aloha · 09/01/2006 19:45

I have the story book wolves one and it makes me laugh.
Went to see stage version of Little Red Riding Wolf, and ds cried when The big bad girl tricked RRW out of all his cakes! He is cake-obsessed weed!

tribpot · 09/01/2006 19:45

If I know what's right, and you know what's right, and they're not the same thing, how can that be?

Possibly because each family has to decide what is right for them. Quite happy to acknowledge that you know what is right for your kids.

HunkersDSHasNoFlowertotGoodies · 09/01/2006 19:45

So, one new fact from this thread, not-before-seen on any other SAHM v WOHM thread.

Anyone else spot it?
