It just defies any instinct a person has to protect a newborn, what is wrong with the world.

I'm sorry if this upsets anyone I'm just in shock at the cruelty

Dedalus, it happens on occasion, I believe, in cases where two parties are involved in abuse. One is often led on by the other (but obviously has some predisposition to this horrific behaviour) and effectively 'cracks' and seeks help for their victim. I must stress that I only know this following the adoption of a family member of mine, whose parents abused his siblings- I am not a professional in this area. His birth mother (sorry to those who don't like that term, I can't think of an alternative, and I can't bring myself to use the word 'natural' when describing her), took an older sibling of my family member to the hospital when pregnant with him even though she had been comlicit in casuing the injuries. My family member was born whilst she was in prison for the serial abuse of three children. His Mum & Dad dread the day when they have to explain why he was adopted Sad

DedalusDigglesPocketWatch not really parents like this are often trapped in what I call "victim hood" they abuse then present the child to the hospital only after it becomes clear its the only choice often leaving the child suffering for days even weeks while they hedge their bets that the child becomes better on on their own.

Children in abusive families often go weeks with broken arms before being presented to the hospital

Sorry but I wouldn't think to deeply about the fact they presented the child after the rape. Other than they very likely lied trough their teeth about what happened and took moments to get their story straight

One thing going to jail over a rape but another to go to jail over a murder

No doubt the mother will be staying she was forced abused in to keeping quite ECt

maypole1 · 03/12/2011 14:15

If you really want to help abused children

Please register your interest in becoming a foster carer with your la or if a their is a shortage of thousands part of the reason children stay in danger for so long coupled with liberal attauides about keeping families together

I live in Gravesend and it's a sad, sad day for us that these animals can live and walk amongst us.

Crying with you all, and praying hard.

dreamingbohemian · 03/12/2011 14:19

I also don't think this thread is distasteful. Underfunded agencies should understand that awareness raising is an important part of their fundraising. The more people feel outraged, the more pressure they will put on the government to properly fund preventive programs.

I think it's a bit different from the Jo Yeates threads, which I was a bit more uncomfortable with. That was a horrible case of bad luck really, that could not have been prevented.

In this case, I would be really surprised if it turns out the perpetrators had no history at all of anything disturbing, and most likely this could have been prevented. Young children are vulnerable and need societal protection, the more people know what the dangers are, the more help agencies will get to do so.

maypole1 · 03/12/2011 14:20

cocoachanneloffestivecheer you are 100% right

The one who is complicit but has not physically caused the abuse usually cracks and seeks help for the child, after days or weeks after the event when the guilt becomes to much

Or like i said delay because stories are being concocted about events

EnjoyResponsibly · 03/12/2011 14:26

Aside from the poor little helpless child, I'm thinking about the ambulance people, police officers and hospital staff that are going to be so deeply affected.

I'm praying that all of those people can draw on their skill to he him, and find peace of mind for themselves.

cookcleanerchaufferetc · 03/12/2011 14:26

Quite simply, whoever was responsible for such awful behaviour - you deserve to burn in hell.

gemmummy · 03/12/2011 15:22

just give me 5 minutes with these bastards.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 03/12/2011 15:45

Whatever happens to them both now is too good for them :(

It's unbelievable that they are out on bail.

bibbitybobbitybloodyaxe · 03/12/2011 15:50

I cannot believe they are out on bail! Surely they are (quite understandably) in danger from their acquaintances/family/people who know them in rl.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 03/12/2011 16:01

Bail is only judged on flight risk and risk of reoffending though, isnt it?

scaevola · 03/12/2011 16:03

I couldn't find anything on the link that said SS were involved with the baby or his family.

Does someone have a further and more detailed link?

Or is theorising here once again running ahead of known circumstances?

SantieMaggie · 03/12/2011 16:07

:( so sad - here crying with you. I didn't read anythign to say they had sought medical help for the baby or that they're the parents so perhaps they got caught.

SantieMaggie · 03/12/2011 16:08

And if I thought I had a hope in hell of being accepted at the moment I'd foster loads of kids.

TheOriginalFAB · 03/12/2011 17:04

I don't understand why the people arrested have been released on bail. This is such an horrific attack I really don't think they will stay around to get sent to prison.

GypsyMoth · 03/12/2011 17:08

They will have to report to police station. They will have had assessment.

Sephrenia · 03/12/2011 17:17

I normally don't advocate such a thing, but in this case, when they get sent down (as they surely will), I hope the other prisoners get to them.

noblegiraffe · 03/12/2011 19:57

This story is truly horrifying. What is even worse, is that it is not uncommon in other parts of the world. South Africa, for example has one of the highest proportions of child and baby rape in the world. Some think that having sex with a virgin can cure AIDs and this is thought to be behind the younger rapes.

maypole1 · 03/12/2011 22:35

noblegiraffe sadly its not uncommon here either those who work with ss are not shocked

madmomma · 03/12/2011 22:45

Sephrenia - yep. I'd pay for that to happen.

MissRee · 03/12/2011 23:34

I am disgusted to say that I live in Gravesend and these two animals have been bailed back here. There are currently around 300 people outside the house they have been bailed to (one of their parents) and about 30 police officers protecting them. The neighbours must be terrified...

My prayers are with the little boy - I can't even begin to imagine how this might affect him in the years to come. I hope he manages to have some kind of a life and that his parents get what they deserve Sad

noblegiraffe · 03/12/2011 23:37

Why the fuck are they not in custody? For their own protection if nothing else, it's got to be cheaper and safer than on bail.

slartybartfast · 03/12/2011 23:38

there are tribes in african where the man rape babies as a cure for aids.
appalling.

slartybartfast · 03/12/2011 23:38

are they african missree?
