Thank you, Ma'am, and of course you may use my pseudonym.

Erm, I agree with Ghosty - the gay thing isn't really an issue - I can see that it would produce huge shockwaves, but I don't see why it should be such a problem. TBH I feel quite sorry for him - it explains certain things if he has been forced to stifle his sexuality. Very sad.

Still can't understand about Camilla though.

For some reason this won't turn into a normal link. The story is here (you'll have to copy and paste into the address bar).

Good it be the male head of house???????????? Its always the least expected isn't it, I think the most obviously would be the last born (am I making since), but that would be too obvious wouldn't it?

Moomin · 08/11/2003 15:53

Soooooo... let's get this straight (unfortunate term at the moment, know!): Without directing referring to the allegation, it is then inferred that Camilla is a "beard". What about the tapes of the phone calls when he says he wanted to be her tampon, and other such yukky stuff? Did they know they were being taped and staged the whole thing to put people off the scent? The public would have obviously wanted to know who Ch was boffing if he wasn't interested in D, and Ca filled the role perfectly. Does this also explain why it took him so bloody long to get married when he had his pick of the suitable fillies from the aristocratic cattle market? (mixed metaphors there - sorry!)
Yes, I KNOW it's all nasty gossip and hearsay at the moment, and when I first realised who and what they were on about with this allegation, I thought it was balls, BUT the more I think about it, the more it seems credible. But it also makes me feel very sorry for the bloke. How could he possibly feel more of a misfit in the dreadful role he's been born into? At least us common folk have a relative choice about who we are, what we do and who we sleep with / marry.
Another thought: the reason he married Di with her being only 19/20 was given as her having to be a virgin - could it be that actually she was that plus completely naive, to the point of almost blind to what was going on? And lastly (phew) could this be tied to her death? If she knew this the Royals must have been shitting themselves about her telling the world eventually.
Just a thought! You can call me Moomin-Conspiracy-Theory from now on....

suedonim · 08/11/2003 17:05

I dunno....my dh was in the Royal Navy at the same time as PC and there were never any rumours then, when he would have had ample opportunity. It is true that PC has v large ears, though!

janh · 09/11/2003 10:52

"Now, what can we do to divert the public's attention....weddings and babies usually do the trick...SOPHIE!"

Sorry. Feeling cynical this morning.

sassy · 09/11/2003 14:33

I had the same thought, janh! "Fed up with this pregnancy Sophie? I know, awful waiting isn't it? Tell you what, shall we hurry this baby along for you?.."!
Terrible old cynics aren't we!

lucy123 · 09/11/2003 14:46

No, Jan. I can be cynical, but I can't believe anyone would have a c-section a month early for PR reasons.

Maybe I'm hopelessly naive.

Really don't quite see why the allegations are so damaging though (obviously they are v damaging for the servant).

I did notice that Sophie was headline 1 until it turned out that people had actually died in Riadh though. Good to see the BBC hasn't completely lost track of its priorities.

naughtynoonoo · 09/11/2003 15:24

The thought had crossed my mind too, anything to try and take the publics mind of the bi-story - I don't think it quite worked this time!

ScummyMummy · 09/11/2003 15:29

Liked your post, Moomin-Conspiracy-Theory. You sound like my partner- he ais partial to a conspiracy theory now and again too.

aloha · 09/11/2003 20:58

I'd love this to be true, but I think it's the most obvious rubbish. The bloke making the allegations is a raving mad alcoholic prone to making bonkers allegations against all sorts. I just don't believe it at all. He's been shagging Camilla for aons. I almost feel sorry for him!

marsup · 11/11/2003 17:26

You can see a sensible account of the scandal in Le Monde, in English (it is Charles). I'm not sure I know how to add links, but hopefully here is a link to today's Le Monde page:
