Oh thank you Tinks! Blimey indeed as sobernow says. Doesn't particularly surprise me though, they're all a bit strange aren't they?

lilibet · 04/11/2003 18:50

hmmm
not sure about that, not who I had thought.

very good friend of mine had lunch with ex editor of national newspaper on sunday (won't say which one) he basically said it is as marthamoo describes and is one of the most high profile members of royals.
he was saying the same - every newsroom in the country knows it but no one will break the story

codswallop · 04/11/2003 19:23

More of a puzzled 'hmm' coddy

codswallop · 04/11/2003 19:31

Yuck!

I have mentioned this before on here that my pal form Uni was her lawyer and knew something was going on after the funeral and hinted to us about it.. but then went very quiet...

Is ds2s godmother in Jan so may blackmail her too

codswallop · 04/11/2003 19:31

why can I never type from - it always comes out as form

Tinker · 04/11/2003 19:33

me too, nad 'the' comes out as 'teh'

zebra · 04/11/2003 20:29

Sorry, Lilbet, I can be such an idiot. Just type 'Royal Scandal' into Google... It partly comes back to what is implied in the link that Tinker gave, but there's more than that, to do with the claim by another member of Palace staff that he was a victim of rape by another member of staff, and what the Royal Family was willing (or not willing) to do about it.

Chinchilla · 04/11/2003 23:11

Let's face it though, a gay monarch is not unusual is it. Look at James 1st, one of the Edwards (II?), and I'm sure many more. If this royal IS gay or bi, what is that in this day and age? Obviously if the rape allegation is true, then that is a different kettle of fish. However, being gay now is hardly front page news. It's ironic that, in this world where we fight for gay rights, the royal involved would have more trouble with the public talking than other monarchs had in the 'dark ages' of liberation! That's freedom of the press for you!

anais · 04/11/2003 23:31

But what about Camilla???

Chinchilla · 04/11/2003 23:51

I also thought that Anais!

bobsmum · 04/11/2003 23:57

But gender reassignment operations can appear soooo convincing nowadays....

wiltshire · 05/11/2003 01:18

I had been scanning the net for this and I am with Tinkers 'allegedly' on this one. Apparently the Italian newspaper Repubblica broke this story last week. However since I can't read bloody italian, this was not a lot of good to me (someone sent me a link). Any of you know any Italian, let me know. Oh and I too, thought it was Eddy as he has been seen in Londres at various gay sorties.

wiltshire · 05/11/2003 01:20

I suppose it would rock the Monarchy though really. As bobsmum says every newspaper would be trying to find the surgeon/stylist that turns Mr Fawcett into Camilla Saturday nights and for Balls

FairyMum · 05/11/2003 07:02

I am not sure I understand why Diana made these tapes? In the link below it looks like she was filmed since it described what she was wearing. I always thought it was just a taped phone conversation ?

On itv news this lunchtime - well the injunction...

we MUST have some Itlaian speakers here

lilibet · 05/11/2003 12:52

It was Edward II who ws gay and he was killed by having a red hot poker shoved up his backside!

Ouch!

suedonim · 05/11/2003 12:56

Lilibet, are you really Queen Elizabeth II, posting anonymously? Please give us the low-down!

zebra · 05/11/2003 13:01

The big problem isn't the gay thing, IMO.
If "a senior" royal is guilty of perverting the Course of Justice (someone tell me the British phrase for that?), they will go to prison. That's the potential scandal; that's what would bring down the Senior Royal in Question and the backlash might be bad enough to persuade public opinion to dis-establish the Monarchy from the British Constitution/Government itself.

The thing is, I hate Trial by media, or Trial by Gossip. Let's not forget, There may be no crime, no genuine scandal, just a load of malicious rumours.
