See how well you do!

I am a Disgrace - I only got 12/24 - good job I've already left the country! Grin

Oh, and when you've done it, click on Show Answers to see what you should have said :)

RedHotPokers · 12/10/2011 20:38

14/24. I am amazed I got that many tbh.

PrincessFiorimonde · 13/10/2011 13:41

Question 21 is wrong. The monarch is not restricted to marrying a Protestant. S/he can marry an atheist, a Buddhist, a Muslim ... - anyone except a Roman Catholic.

soandsosmummy · 13/10/2011 13:49

17 for me - I'll turn the lights off on the way out

TheTenantOfWildfellHall · 13/10/2011 13:55

The question about what you have to show when applying for a job...

The only one of those I haven't had to show is a photograph!

I've had to provide a covering letter and a CV and my national insurance number and proof of identity. I've no idea which is the 'correct' answer! Although I'm guessing it's the NINo now, so that they can take tax from you. But still, I've been required to provide all three of these.

I got 15 and anything that wasn't completely obvious was a guess. Who on earth needs to know the number of parliamentary constituencies!

TheTenantOfWildfellHall · 13/10/2011 14:03

Agree with margery it would be far more useful if the questions were value based or about how people conduct themselves in UK society.

I used to work in CP and a refugee family came to CP conference on the basis that they sent their children to school everyday without breakfast and the school had to feed them, they hadn't provided school uniform and the school sent their DCs home everyday washed and with clean uniform.

It transpired that the family hadn't realised the school wasn't doing this for all the pupils and the family thought this was part of the generous state education in this country. They were absolutely mortified that they'd got it so wrong and a bit Confused as to why this hadn't just been explained to them!

They just didn't know.

That sort of knowledge is far more important that knowing stuff that most people born into this country don't have a clue about!

GandTiceandacauldron · 13/10/2011 14:06

13/24. Am awaiting deportaion back to Wales! [hgrin]

Thzumbiewitch · 13/10/2011 14:11

TheTenant - the answer was CV but yes, I've had to supply all of the suggested options before now as well. It's not a well-designed questionnaire!

And PrincessF - I thought that question was a bit bogus too - because I also know that the restriction is against RCs - but I didn't think they'd be too keen on any other religion either, seeing as how they will beget the next monarch who technically needs to be CofE/Protestant to become a monarch. Being atheist isn't really an issue.

PhylisStein · 13/10/2011 14:46

13/24 I really want to live abroad - when can I be deported?! [hgrin]

PrincessFiorimonde · 13/10/2011 15:20

Thumbwitch, yes I know what you mean; I was just being pedantic. I think, though, there is actually a separate law that says the monarch her/himself has to be CofE. For obvious reasons.

I only got 15/24, btw.

alexpolismum · 13/10/2011 15:31

I failed miserable with 9. Good thing I emigrated 12 years ago. Best I don't come back, then!

Why on earth are they asking the West Indies bus driver question? Why is that significant to anyone other than West Indian bus drivers?

BoffinMum · 13/10/2011 16:27

Good God. I failed with 16/24, and I am a policy researcher with a PhD. How do people manage to know all this stuff? Only about a quarter of it has to do with citizenship IMO.

lljkk · 13/10/2011 16:31

I passed it without even buying the book.
But I needed to pass it, so...

BoffinMum · 13/10/2011 16:35

Better questions.

  1. What methods of voting are available in the UK?
  2. What time do polling stations close?
  3. How old do you have to be to vote in the UK?
  4. What percentage of tax will you have to pay if you are earning £22,000?
  5. What is the UK minimum wage?
  6. How much paid work are children allowed to do on a school night?
  7. How do you report a crime?
  8. What does 'in custody' mean?
  9. How would you get legal representation if arrested?
10. What is the difference between registered and unregistered childcare? 11. In what circumstances might your children be legally allowed to miss school? 12. What is Statutory Sick Pay, and when might you get it?

Add some more ...

MNPwhooooooooooooooo · 13/10/2011 18:18

18 :)

GothAnneGeddes · 14/10/2011 22:11

Dh did this a few years ago. Being a geeky sort, loved revising for it and still laments the destruction of his study guide at the hands of a friend's toddler.

Abcinthia · 15/10/2011 09:29

I did a slightly different one on another site (most of the questions were the same; I'd say about 5 questions were different) and I got 20 out of 24.

nickelbabe · 15/10/2011 10:09

apparently they've been putting real questions on Twitter (real as in what UK citizens thinkare more relevant)
#RealCitizenshipTest

and an article about it
some are very funny - like "who walked into a pub (tick 3 answers) a) englishman b) irishman c) scotsman d) welshman"

and "talk for 5 minutes about the weather, without deviation, repetition or hesitation"

ben5 · 15/10/2011 10:21

Glad I moved to Perth Australia as I only got 11Blush. Its warm in this part of Oz 27 today and 35 tomorrowWine!

yellowraincoat · 15/10/2011 10:23

Halloween is Scottish, but we don't have any tradition of playing tricks on people...I've never seen anyone do that in this country (the UK I mean). That's the part that's American and therefore makes no sense.

I got 14. I am officially not allowed to be British any more.

BOOareHaunting · 15/10/2011 10:29

10 Grin

I failed as apparently I don't know enough but England and it's way of life.

Actually I got the school and Halloween ones right - I just don't know enough about the government!

PointyBlackHat · 15/10/2011 20:58

I got 16 and am a foreigner (EU national), but I don't give a damn - unless this country leaves the EU I shall not pay this government ridiculous amounts of money for the privilege of being a citizen, much as I love this country (and I do).

If it comes to it, I shall buy the book, cram like mad and get 100% because I am good at cramming. It will be meaningless though, if these questions are anything to go by. BoffinMum's questions are vastly better.

UptoapointLordCopper · 15/10/2011 21:28

I got only 14. (Foreigner.)

I can quote a fair bit of Evelyn Waugh though. Grin

And I do very good British puddings. It will be my FIL's loss if they deport me.

SouthernandCross · 15/10/2011 21:36

I got 23/24 but sat the real thing a couple of months ago. I always get the governing body of the EU wrong. Am surprised I did so well actually, as I was convinced I'd forget everything as soon as I sat the test!

DramaInPyjamas · 15/10/2011 21:40

8 out of 24. [stoopid]

tjacksonpfc · 15/10/2011 21:51
