It seems clear that he did kill her, & I don't see how he can claim it was unintentional, so why do her poor parents have to be put through such harrowing evidence?

Why be so panic-stricken though? You make advances, they are strongly resisted, you blush and stammer and clear the hell out of there. You don't end up strangling somebody.

Part of the narcissist personality; the fact that the "real self" has been exposed when you've carved out a seemingly successful life for yourself & you can't risk others knowing you've made a big mistake. It's OTT I agree but not impossible I don't think.

meditrina · 28/10/2011 14:31

Was any evidence given of narcissism?

I didn't think that had been in the case at any point (please correct me if once again I've missed something!)

Pan · 28/10/2011 14:32

yes to member and NL - he stops Jo from screaming by leaving the flat. But he was already commited to his purpose by then.

member · 28/10/2011 14:37

Med, nothing official given to court in evidence (think psychiatric reports generally asked for by the judge prior to sentencing), that is my interpretation of his personality from what we know of his actions after JY was killed; his changes in story to fit with the evidence, etc. It is just supposition so I should really shut up!

meditrina · 28/10/2011 15:02

I was just checking if it was something the Jury would be allowed to consider.

What time would their deliberations usually be halted for the day - it's usually about 4-4.30 isn't it? I wonder if this will have to carry on until next week?

Pan · 28/10/2011 15:05

I am suspecting the judge will ask for psychy reports, a probation report and information fro mthe prison people where he has bee nremanded. Judges really do not like being appealed against, and lack of report requests would be a good ground for appeal.

are we not allowed to specualte or something?

meditrina · 28/10/2011 15:08

This thread has been sticking pretty closely to the actual evidence and court process, that's all.

SKY are reporting that there is some activity around the Court, so perhaps a verdict is imminent.

member · 28/10/2011 15:10

I think this could be it...

EdithWeston · 28/10/2011 15:14

I owe a general apology.

Sorry everyone for being so shrill earlier on.

But I am glad that the thread stayed pretty on track about what was happening in court, rather than completely shooting off into premature speculation.

winnybella · 28/10/2011 15:16

said · 28/10/2011 15:16

guilty of murder on bbc twitter

meditrina · 28/10/2011 15:17

Majority verdict 10-2, guilty of murder.

SheCutOffTheirTails · 28/10/2011 15:19

Police found strangulation pornography on Tabak's computer.

EdithWeston · 28/10/2011 15:21

According to SKY, further information about his background is now emerging.

They say he had an escalating addiction to violent pornography, including scenes of strangulation, scenes set in dungeons and images of bound women in the back of the car.

This explains why the prosecution were asserting a sexual interest in strangulation, seemingly unsupported at the time, as this evidence was (for some reason) inadmissible.

blackoutthesun · 28/10/2011 15:22

its sooo sad Sad

belledechocchipcookie · 28/10/2011 15:22

That's great news. I hope her family are given the time to grieve that they need. Sad

blackoutthesun · 28/10/2011 15:23

they are saying that joanna wasn't sexual assulted (some small comfort there)

winnybella · 28/10/2011 15:23

I wonder why was this evidence inadmissible? Confused

SheCutOffTheirTails · 28/10/2011 15:24

Well done that jury.

EdithWeston · 28/10/2011 15:25

My only guess is that it's because he was on trial for murder, not for pornography charges.

The Judge is sentencing now. For murder, the mandatory sentence for murder is life. He is setting the tariff. The minimum is 15 years, but he's listing 5 aggravating factors a each of which will increase the tariff.
