Wow!!

Booooooyhoo · 11/10/2011 15:14

respect!!!

SkiLift · 11/10/2011 15:14

i think she is a stupid woman. Selfish.

nokissymum · 11/10/2011 15:17

I havent the foggiest idea how a 9 month pregant woman can run a marathon, but i think its quite admirable.

Skilift - why is she "stupid and selfish" ? Shock

Booooooyhoo · 11/10/2011 15:21

why stupid and selfish?

SinicalSal · 11/10/2011 15:23

maybe not 'stupid and selfish' but a bit of an attention seeker, certainly.

Bugsy2 · 11/10/2011 15:23

Wow, she must be so fit. I am very impressed. I could barely walk down the road by the time I was 39 weeks!

CountingDown321 · 11/10/2011 15:23

She did say in the interview that she kept up running during her pregnancy. Just like I did planned to [cough].

And she walked half of it, so sounds like she knew the limits of her body.

SinicalSal · 11/10/2011 15:23

she probably tells all her mates 'Pregnancy's not an illness, you know!'

Yes I'm grumpy and jealous....

Booooooyhoo · 11/10/2011 15:24

nokissy i think the fact that she has always been running and doing so throughout the pregnancy has meant that she was able to do this, as opposed to someone who doesn't run trying to do it at 9 months pregnant (i wouldn't even contemplate it and i'm not pregnant Grin) her body has been used to running long distances everyday, while it has developed in teh pregnancy so it isn't liek a sudden shock to her system. i'm not making much sense am i?

Booooooyhoo · 11/10/2011 15:26

an attention seeker? or someone who has a passion and didn't see a need to put it on hold whilst pregnant, it just so happens that her labour started so soon after the marathon.

CountingDown321 · 11/10/2011 15:26

I wonder if she had a natural birth...

nokissymum · 11/10/2011 15:28

Boohoo- yes you do make sense, i would need emergency services to follow me round the track to do it and im not pregnant either Envy

Booooooyhoo · 11/10/2011 15:31

me too! Grin

Ephiny · 11/10/2011 15:32
Shock

I don't think it's stupid or selfish - it sounds like she took doctor's advice beforehand, and walked part of the way - and if she felt well enough to do it...then why not?

Not something I could imagine being able to, or wanting to do though. But then she must be in a different league from me in terms of fitness!

SinicalSal · 11/10/2011 15:33

Booyhoo I did warn I was grumpy and jealous Grin and married to a runner, to boot.

I do stand by the attention seeking though - as a nice side effect to the reasons you gave rather than the reason though. Doesn't make her evil though, if she likes people to congratulate her and think she's great.

SinicalSal · 11/10/2011 15:33

though though though.

if you say it enough it starts sounding weird

Booooooyhoo · 11/10/2011 15:37

Grin it starts looking weird too!

Well done her! I have nothing but respect, the same for my friend who did a marathon several weeks after giving birth Envy

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 11/10/2011 15:59

If you are already proficient in a sport and continue religiously throughout pregnancy your body adapts very well.

I was still doing Karate well into my pg with ds, jut had to modify it a little.

I have huge amounts of respect for her, didn't Paula Radcliffe run a marathon heavily pregnant?

FannibalLecter · 11/10/2011 17:22

Oh I just saw this on 5 News; good on her but I feel so inadequate right now! The trip to the fridge is far enough!

squarebugs · 15/10/2011 22:56

sorry, but I don't care how fit you are. It is selfish. Keeping fit and healthy in pregnancy is one thing, but pounding on the road for 6 + hours with a full term baby inside you is nonsense.

It is either obsessive behaviour or attention seeking and even her doctors advised her to walk half of it. Why?

Wouldn't gentle jogging for less distance have been fine? What is she trying to prove?

The risk of injury would be much higher as your ligaments soften in pregnancy

Sevenfoldedbloodybodies · 15/10/2011 22:59

omg
that is just well ....daft
but glad it worked out well for her

Highlander · 16/10/2011 15:15

So, an unfit pregnant woman going out for the day shopping is not selfish.

A fit, healthy pregnant who jogs/walks for 6 hours is selfish.

She attracted attention because, sadly, the mantra is that you should give up your life when you are pregnant. Women who choose to remain active in pregnancy are sadly still viewed as nutters.

Her baby was a very healthy weight, strongly suggesting that the woman in question wasn't over-exercising when pregnant i.e. the blood flow to the baby wsn't at all compromised.
