apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

OP posts:

noddy jealous of your nuts and wine - am just sitting down to catch up on what i've missed!
norman you're right, the ladies go mad for a bit of SC - such a shame he's so difficult to get down the aisle! Wink
pannus yy re Piers - he was a mate of someone i worked for back in the day
chipstick totally agree re SB and CW
triplets also looking forward to the next Private Eye with some anticipation!!
Right - back after I've caught up with the next page...

LucaBrasi · 12/07/2011 21:21

Aww, poor newsreader woman on BBC24 - she is losing her voice by the sec, but ploughing through...

teej · 12/07/2011 21:29

jajas we really need a reprieve for a day or so so we can catch up with work, remember what the children look like and tidy up Smile
bullet yy - i would have preferred GB if he hadn't wanted to be PM tbh - i think he made some poor decisions because of that ambition and the conflict between him and TB was not helpful when we needed them to be paying attention to the financial markets/ housing bubble/ NI.
as i said upthread, like grimma said - however NI came to have the info re FB - what they did with it and how they did it was completely unacceptable.

chipstick10 · 12/07/2011 21:29

Ooohhh pannus let me guess.......Mandleson........Campbell..........give me a clue Wink

EightiesChick · 12/07/2011 21:38

Glad it's not just me getting no work done! I've ahd this thread open all week (luckily it's a quiet spell at the moment at work and I am working from home lots) and have been putting Sky News on at intervals to see what hilarious papering-over-the-cracks job they are doing now. Newsnight is a must-see. It's possibly even better than election time. Keep it coming I say.

Has Guido Fawkes said any more about Piers Morgan yet?

noddyholder · 12/07/2011 21:42

Yes GF has said that PM was aware of phone hacking when he was at the Mirror I think. Re Sven and Ulrika. If true his US career may be short lived.

teej · 12/07/2011 21:42

oh aitch now i'm going to think of JM talking out the fallen madonna with the big boobies - how apt for the prop of the Sun.
cage i remember reading about that JM speech in Edinburgh at the time and knowing he'd got it the wrong way round!
chipstick luca i'm with you on this this point too - i think RM/RB/NI had both Labour and Tories by the short and curlies. And Fox News is not worthy of the moniker.
as i've said on one of these threads - Sky's ability to buy up sporting, cultural and musical events - particularly national events - should not be allowed. purely because national events should be for all the people - not just those able to pay RM's shilling.

Really proud to join you, lets keep up the pressure - another petition to sign

Just read this about how "Will Rupert be arrested?" by Geoffrey Robertson QC
www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2011/07/12/rupert-murdoch-will-he-be-arrested-for-news-of-the-world-hacking-scandal.html

He makes a number of very good points....I would like to see Rupert et al in the dock answering under oath.

seems just to to be about \link{http://order-order.com/2011/07/12/piers-morgan-knew-award-winning-scoop-was-hacked/\the Ulrika & Sven scoop being down to phone hacking}

bit disappointing really Hmm

maybe something better tomorrow...

ThisIsANiceCage · 12/07/2011 21:46

The BBC's operating expenditure was £4.26 bn in 2009/10, while BSkyB's was £5.9 bn.

But I was speculating about funding last week, too, so I idly looked up News Corp vs some other spies.

in the last financial year, News Corp's revenue was about $32.55 bn = £20.45 bn
and it made a gross profit of $11.88 bn = £7.46 bn.

For the same year, MI5's budget was £2 bn.

Couldn't find figures for just News Int rather than the multinational News Corp, but it's all Daddy Murdoch's fiefdom and does give the scale of their relative resources...

Probably takes MI5 longer to get phone & bank records, too - all that bloody paperwork. Grin

2290 posts, ditto Grin

(I don't do pages as a rule. once it gets past 2000 seeing the latest posts is a bit tricky - have to go in via threads I'm on)

jenny60 · 12/07/2011 21:52

Agreed: WTF is Cameron? Hmm He's handled this very, very badly. What do they have on him and when will he realise that it doesn't matter anymore?

I wish any and all of them of them had stood up to RM. But this is beyond a party political issue. The police didn't even have the courage to stand up to him Shock. This is about taking the opportunity to clear out the poison and forcing politicians to act now. This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Are our current MPs up to it?

Lizpurple · 12/07/2011 21:52

Yes I signed those too but this is a new one - Yesterday Murdoch pulled a last minute manoeuvre to exclude his company's outrageous hacking practices from the BSKyB deal review. Let's call on the government to immediately rule that the Murdochs aren't fit and proper to own half our commercial media. Tomorrow this will be debated in Parliament. Let's beat the Murdoch mafia - sign the urgent petition now:

Pannus · 12/07/2011 21:53

Nooo - I don't have one lizard in mind - I worked in area with good knowledge of it for some years before kids....This is on an industrial scale - it's almost like an oozing factory of sewage where people have totally lost their moral compass..... I do not want these people to run my children's world - how dare they override our value-system like this? It stinks! I just about to lose job - it's off to Salford.... nothing v the north - too disruptive for ma famille youngies and oldies right now. No-one seems to care any more about the "normal" people who pay taxes and bloody well care about the societal values. It's OK they are knocking at the door now to take me away!! Ranting......

mrsdonkeybucket · 12/07/2011 21:53

Evening all.

Am following the thread with great interest, don't have much to add most of the time, but am watching and reading the news (online, no papers !) with teeth gritted in sheer anger. It's becoming painful. Grin {painful grin}

ThisIsANiceCage · 12/07/2011 21:53

at fallen Madonna with the big boobies Grin

What a lovely idea from that nice man Geoffrey Robinson.

Ponders · 12/07/2011 21:54

the Labour motion that the Murdoch bid for BSkyB should be withdrawn altogether, is to be backed by both the Lib Dems & the Tories, so that should stop it in its tracks.

teej · 12/07/2011 21:55

ponders glad it's not just me feeling underwhelmed by Sven and Ulrika!

jenny60 · 12/07/2011 21:58

Exactly ponders but the govl. should be leaing on this not the oposition. Bad, bad day for DC tomorrow.

teej · 12/07/2011 21:58

ohhh jajas you've just reminded me we're supposed to be camping later this month Shock what if the campsite doesn't have decent mobile reception for me to keep up to date with this thread
