apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

OP posts:

sick fuckers

ClaireDeLoon · 11/07/2011 16:25

That's awful :( I wonder if she'll continue to deny she knew anything about illegal practices at the NI newspapers.

AitchTwoOh · 11/07/2011 16:30

gawd. she was supposed to be their friend. how utterly awful.

AitchTwoOh · 11/07/2011 16:32

cameron just looks weirder and weirder, doesn't he? thought milliband was good earlier (when they showed his good side).

arazmataz · 11/07/2011 16:33

But why did Gordon Brown - who was PM - do something?

arazmataz · 11/07/2011 16:34

Sorry, I mean why didn't he do something? Like expose the whole she-bang?

TheCrackFox · 11/07/2011 16:35

Surely the government should have acted at the time of medical details been obtained. It was quite clearly an illegal act and the matter should have been handed over to the police at the time. Oh, that's right Labour was very happy indeed to have the NI in their back pocket at the time.

Labour/Lib Dems/Conservatives haven't really covered themselves in glory with this have they?

arazmataz · 11/07/2011 16:35

I suppose they would have gunned him out of office.

arazmataz · 11/07/2011 16:36

I agree, CrackFox. Apparently one's media profile is more important than truth or justice.

TheCrackFox · 11/07/2011 16:38

He put his political ambitions ahead of the welfare and privacy of his family. Very saddening but nothing really surprises me about politicians, in this country, anymore.

OhYouBadBadCrookshanks · 11/07/2011 16:39

I think it shows that for far too long the people in charge of this country have not been the government but have been NI.

arazmataz · 11/07/2011 16:42

And Max fecking Clifford! Have you read the feature about him in today's Guardian? Really makes you want to vomit. Lies, lies, lies, lies, lies.

OhYouBadBadCrookshanks · 11/07/2011 16:42

live debate on bbc news 24 if anyones not picked up on that.

arazmataz · 11/07/2011 16:44

No, really, read this and see if it doesn't turn your stomach:

The PR supremo

teej · 11/07/2011 16:47

Urgh - that is disgusting re: GB's son. But I'm quite sure that won't have been the lowest they have gone, either. RB said there was more to come and I think the Guardian said they would have revelations throughout this week, too. We're nowhere near the end, I fear.

Good grief Claire have they really asked for the Sky bid to be referred to the CC now? Hmmm - just as NI has dropped 7.5m readers, eh? Take the heat off calls for the fit and proper test and trust test, eh? They really do assume we are too daft to realise what they are up too and our politicians are too weak to do anything about it.

pointydog · 11/07/2011 16:47

Journos are passing all this info on to the BBC? I don't get it. Why? And isn't there a good chance this will jeopardise any trials?

arazmataz · 11/07/2011 16:48

It's a bit weird if you're Prime Minister and you don't feel as if you can do anything to stop serious crime in the country.

Pannus · 11/07/2011 16:51

Crackfox - you seem to be trying to spin the Gordon Brown thing to mean he is somehow at fault here. No doubt people's reasons for not fighting the juggernauts of UK Media will come out in due course. The Browns issued a press release that evening having probably decided that since it was in the public domain they would manage it their way - this is what most people are advised to do in the light of press "revelations". It is absolutely, incredibly morally reprehensible to do what they did in regard to his son. You might not be a Labour supporter but have some respect.

teej · 11/07/2011 16:52

switching on news 24 - is it just me or does jeremy hunt looks like he's slightly pooping his pants?

teej · 11/07/2011 16:53

look like he's pooping his pants

ClaireDeLoon · 11/07/2011 16:55

Very good point teej. What NI have done is announce that they will no longer spin off Sky News, which is something they agreed to do to avoid it being passed to the CC. With them potentially controlling Sky News as a full part of BSkyB it has now been referred to the CC by the government. NI have said they are prepared to engage with the CC over this matter and clearly still think they will be allowed to progress with taking full control of BSkyB, except that now they would also have Sky News and undoubtedly will resurrect NOTW under a different name. Lets hope the CC do the right thing!

RoundOrangeHead · 11/07/2011 16:56

I do find Max Clifford to be an interesting charachter

teej · 11/07/2011 16:59

omg Claire I hadn't seen that Shock no wonder they were laughing their heads off yesterday - they reckon it's all panning out exactly as they wanted anyway.

Peachy · 11/07/2011 17:04

Having been through a diagnosis of special needs less severe (ie not potentially fatal) with my boys I can't possibly imagine how awful it was to get that call; diagnosis is a ridiculously painful time when you often (or at elast I often) felt as if my sanity was deserting me and it was certainly a physical pain involved- it's just immoral.

However haven't posted on this thread before but DH worked on a contract that included the NI group's papers (NOT Journalism! ). The stories he used to tell me of the way he was spoken to by NI (he was told off or not wanting to be sworn and yelled at), how they expected all and sundry to bow down to them and the complete lack of respect they had for people and basic morality - well let's say I wasn't sure I believed them at the time but I do now.

Peachy · 11/07/2011 17:06

As for Gordon Brown- I suspect if his family HAD kicked off there would be plenty saying he was trying to shut the press up, what was he hiding etc etc- it's impossible for a politician to do right in the UK, especially if the tabloids support someone else's party.
