apparently by deleting Milly's messages her family still had some hope that she might still be alive

I have emailed my MP. Please people, this is far more important than what Ms Wade did or didn't know. Don't we want to be governed by our own elected representatives? In public, in Parliament and with some sort of accountability attached?

It isn't a perfect system by any means, but you have to wonder how many of the decisions ostensibly being made in Westminster are actually being made in Murdoch's office. It might explain a lot!

Murdoch and his political cronies would love the debate to get bogged down in the relative sleaziness of the British press, thus allowing him to continue flying under the radar and exercising undue, unelected and unaccountable influence.

threefeethighandrising · 10/07/2011 23:31

If you want to do something about standing up to Murdoch how about it, how about this.

easy way to email your MP to ask them to vote against the BSkyB bid.

It's really easy, takes no time at all and this kind of thing really can make a difference.

Pannus · 10/07/2011 23:58

Yes please follow threefeethighandrising link I wrote to our useless whip-following Tory MP:

www.38degrees.org.uk/page/speakout/time-to-stand-up-to-murdoch

I've read that there is likely to be a vote on Rupert Murdoch's Newscorp takeover of BSkyB this coming Wednesday.

Please can you assure me you will vote to stop this takeover while investigations are ongoing? The inquiries, police investigation into phone hacking, and the Ofcom investigation into whether Rupert Murdoch is "fit and proper", must all happen first.

Mr Murdoch and Newscorp are hoping, by closing The NOTW, that this toxic issue has been dealt with - it has not. There are very serious allegations to answer - in my mind the most upsetting is the possible delay of the police investigation after the tampering of Milly Dowler's phone as she lay dead at the hands of a man who went on to murder two more young women. I don't need to remind you of the rest of the disgraceful allegations.

I know you are expected to tow the party whip - but in the name of humanity and a sense of doing what you know is right please, please do not vote for the BskyB takeover.

I look forward to hearing what you intend to do on Wednesday.

Can someone link me the shropshirestar link that was on here earlier...i can't find it and want to read it properly.

threefeethighandrising · 11/07/2011 00:05

Yes, please follow that link, it's a practical thing you can do to try to make a difference.

And don't worry if you're not quite sure what to say, it gives you some suggested text and you can just use that if you agree with it - or you can change it or write your own if you want.

ThisIsANiceCage · 11/07/2011 00:11

Grin at Pannus. Mine's milk, one sugar, please!

Monday is certainly when this timeline from the Mirror puts the Dowler info. And that's what turned this from "so what" to "OMFG" for the country at large.

If, like me, you'd read Nick Davies several years ago, and understood the shape of the story, then each little episode with the HoC committee etc slotted into the bigger picture. It's had me yelling at the telly for years.

If you didn't know the bigger picture, it was all disjointed and boringly incomprehensible.

Someone on this or another thread recently said that the public aren't thick, most of us just haven't been paying attention. I completely agree. We have busy lives and get on with what's right in front of us.

The moment the public started paying serious attention, everybody understood the wider implications very quickly.

bkgirl · 11/07/2011 00:20

Private Eye said that she wanted to have a baby as an excuse to get out so maybe....

As for all this Rebekah stuff anyway...surely it's a distraction. This way we are not concentrating on the real issues. Surely that is the point of him coming out smiling with her....classic distraction technique

Pannus · 11/07/2011 00:28

Reelingtheyears: here you are an Ordinary mum - but like us quite clever - amazing isn't it?

Pannus · 11/07/2011 00:39

I hope Rebekah has a baby - she will obviously have a doting godfather lined up!

bkgirl · 11/07/2011 00:42

lol godfather is so apt

freybean · 11/07/2011 08:09

hunt is now writing to ofcom

RB might be asked questions by police soon

Jux · 11/07/2011 08:51

I would be very interested in why Cameron hasn't faced a vote of no confidence yet. Surely, as an 'honourable' man, he should at least have proffered his resignation?

EightiesChick · 11/07/2011 09:07

The Dowler family are about to meet Nick Clegg. Bloody check of Cameron to fob them off with Clegg. He could at the very least make some time in his schedule to meet them himself.

freybean · 11/07/2011 09:11

the family did ask to meet the pm so he is meeting them at the end of the week. they are also meeting ed miliband

Pagwatch · 11/07/2011 09:13

He is meeting them.

chipstick10 · 11/07/2011 09:24

Desperate Ed's opportunism is nauseating. All this from the man that got married because it suited his political career. Yuk. Brian Paddick is beyond a joke if anyone witnessed his bizzare antics on on iacgmofh. Jumping on the bandwagon, he is just a desperate wannabe. Too much political point scoring in the name of Milly Dowler. [sceptical]

Jux · 11/07/2011 10:10

iacgmofh?

ppeatfruit · 11/07/2011 10:22

From that Mirror timeline:

'2010 February 24 A Culture, Media and Sport Committee report finds no evidence Coulson knew of hacking, but says it is ?inconceivable? no one apart from Goodman was aware of it.'

inconceivable, eh? Interesting...
