only in England

I started a thread before and the title got screwed up so thought I'd post it again as it amused and flabbergasted me.

I cant believe this!! It is not as if they are out all day either. what is the world coming to?

munz · 09/11/2005 08:01

only in bloyd fareham - (and i'm from there) FFS let the kids be kids - so what if they run and make a bit of noise. - I think those who complained have obviously 'forgotten' what it's like to be a child and want to run about.

harpsichordcarrier · 09/11/2005 08:01

oh ffs
[despairing emoticon]

Hulababy · 09/11/2005 08:03

It's outragous, it really is. Babies and toddlers should be encouraged to be outside as much as possible. Have to say that this was a huge factor in choosing a nursery for DD. The neighbour is the one who needs looking at. This makes me quite cross actually!

Caligula · 09/11/2005 11:00

Surely only in England would a normal level of noise of children playing be considered a cause of complaint?

What is the matter with people in this country? Or is it just the home counties?!

Feistybird · 09/11/2005 11:01

I give up.

oliveoil · 09/11/2005 11:04

I love it when I turn up early to collect dd1 and I can hear shrieks and giggles from the playgroud, is there a better noise?

Lizzylou · 09/11/2005 11:06

Lunacy!
My Great Grandmother's sheltered housing was right near a nursery and primary school and she loved playtime, she would open her window to hear the children playing, it perked her up so much.
I also picked a nursery due to it's gardens...mind you there is only a graveyard next to it (high hedge!) so the residents won't be complaining!

Pinotmum · 09/11/2005 11:09

The Pre-school I work in backs onto gardens and we have had complaints about noise. If any of the children lose a ball over the fenced area it is NEVER returned. If the main instigator reads that article he'll report us I am sure. The fact is children need exercise and fresh air and some don't have gardens at home. We are only in our garden area from about 10 am to 11.45 am and then again from 1.15 pm to 3 pm - not too excessive. Some people are just miserable

handlemecarefully · 09/11/2005 11:09

Well the complaint hasn't been upheld yet has it? It is only being investigated. Hopefully the Council will find in favour of the Nursery

Caligula · 09/11/2005 11:11

Perhaps the story of the Selfish Giant needs to be disseminated a little more widely.

School I first worked at had complaints from eighbours about the noise at playtime. This was a good school with good kids, the noise was not that bad! It made me really annoyed - if youdon't like the noise, don't live next door to a school/nursery! Simple as!

Caligula · 09/11/2005 11:26

I've sent this link to Fareham council

the selfish giant

And I've told them to send the story to the complainant!

Excellent stuff Caligula

Nightynight · 09/11/2005 12:44

children evidently to be seen and not heard. sometimes life in England seems so un-normal

expatinscotland · 09/11/2005 12:46

Oh, ffs! That's right up there w/people who move near an airport and then complain about the noise. We live across the street from a private nursery w/a garden out front and after a while don't even hear the noise.

coppertop · 09/11/2005 12:47

Heaven forbid that pre-schoolers should be allowed to play outside!

hotmama1 · 09/11/2005 13:01

FFS - uh they are children and little one's at that - they will be noisy. Moaning old codger(s)I think the sound of children playing is one of the best sounds in the world. However, I think this now I'm a mum but must admit when I wasn't, screaming children 'would go right through me' - but now I never notice it!

suedonim · 09/11/2005 13:08

We don't know the circumstances, really, do we? Maybe the person who complained has lived there since before the nursery was set up and maybe they work nightshifts so need to sleep during the day. Then I guess they would find the noise a bit annoying!

Having said which, the council here built a home for the elderly right next to the secondary school. Everyone said that it was an inappropriate place, esp as it would prevent the school from expanding. And what's happened? The school gets complaints about the noise/footballs etc and also the council now needs to look for another site on which to biuld a new school.

Caligula · 09/11/2005 13:44

Ha ha ha Suedonim, what brilliant, inspired planning.

Who the f**k do these people employ?

I've noticed lots of houses going up near DS's school recently. I wonder if some of the people who move in there will whinge about the sound of children playing? Like those people who move to the country and don't like the sound of cocks crowing.

OP posts:
handlemecarefully · 09/11/2005 13:46

I've moved to the country and I'm not keep on the sound of the farmers' crop scarer

Avalon · 09/11/2005 13:53

The nursery's only open 4 days a week, so there are 3 days when there's no noise from the area.
More than you can say if families lived there.

I can't believe people complain about this sort of thing.

Hey don't be too downhearted - just think, complaints like this are so ludicrous and ususual that they are news worthy!

GeorginaA · 09/11/2005 14:01

Oh for goodness sake!

I could understand a ruling which said the kids could only play out between the hours of 9-5... but limiting to only 1 hour play a day?!! That's ridiculous! (never mind the logistics of trying to get each room in the nursery out for their play time all in that one hour).
