Which leader would you choose of the 4?

OP posts:
helloween · 18/10/2005 20:14

To do what? Walk the plank? Shoot the other three?

helloween · 18/10/2005 20:15

NOT a Conservative, by the way

JoolsToo · 18/10/2005 20:16

my lips are zipped

for fear of rotten tomatoes

JoolsToo · 18/10/2005 20:16

plus there aren't many Tories on here who will own up to being one - I can't for the life of me think why - wimps!

Caligula · 18/10/2005 20:17

Aha, the vanguard has arrived!

sis · 18/10/2005 20:37

Jools you have done the difficult by admitting being a tory - we're just curious as your preferred leader of the three (I understand that Ken Clarke is out now) contenders. We know that in an ideal world, you'd like Maggie to come back but of the three now standing in the leadership contest who would you prefer?

FairyMum · 18/10/2005 20:39

Not a conservative voter, but might consider maybe at least thinking about voting tory party if they go for David Cameron.

JanH · 18/10/2005 21:59

Well this is what I was wondering JT! (I know you are our token Tory )

I kind of thought that the Tory-in-the-country - as opposed to Westminster - might prefer old Ken. I like old Ken and if I were a Tory (hastily making sign of cross) I would vote for him before any of those Johnny-come-latelies.

OP posts:
JoolsToo · 18/10/2005 22:00

I like Ken but he's a bit past his sell by date ain't he?

unlike us eh?

Gomez · 18/10/2005 22:04

a possible new candidate

Maybe they should reopen nominations to attract the younger members?

Gomez · 18/10/2005 22:05

oops

Nightynight · 18/10/2005 22:10

how right wing is Cameron?

is he TRG or lib?

edam · 18/10/2005 22:10

With their talent for picking leaders, I expect they'll end up with that oily creep Fox. Clarke's probably the only one who many voters actually recognise, so of course they get rid of him first. Doh!

Actually I would quite like it if the Tories got their act together and started to act like a proper Opposition, holding would-be president Blair to account...

JoolsToo · 18/10/2005 22:15

if I could pick anyone - I'd have Hague back

Pruni · 18/10/2005 22:19

edam · 18/10/2005 22:28

TB's creepy, but not oily exactly. Fox reminds me of Liam Brittan (sp?). He's got the 'yuck' factor.

ladymuck · 18/10/2005 22:28

Have to say that I'm gutted that Clarke is out. David Davis just doesn't do it for me. Fox - not sure. Doesn't seem to have done that much whilst in opposition. Cameron - too young, too soon. And definitely too sheltered. Not sure that he really has what it takes to turn the party around.

Not that he could have been a contender, but I did quite like Steve Norris.

hunkerpumpkin · 18/10/2005 22:30

JT...how did I know you'd be on this thread!

I'd have Hague back too - he was very funny.

And not Shagger Norris - nooo!

suedonim · 18/10/2005 22:30

Oily creep!!! Just the description of Liam Fox I was looking for when talking about the leadership with ds1 this evening! Fox is a non-starter because of his Scottish links but I was trying to explain to ds what it was I didn't like about him and 'oily creep' fits the bill exactly!

ladymuck · 18/10/2005 22:33

I still remember Norris's campaign bus going along the Embankment, with Norris tannoying "5 kids, 2 wives and a mistress to support - please vote for me - I need the job!"

Ken's spin campaign made me shiver.

ladymuck · 18/10/2005 22:34

Hague was good in a debate too. Pity he landed us with this daft system of choosing a new leader.

Milge · 18/10/2005 22:35

Don't think Hague can ever recover from admitting to wrestling Seb Coe every morning in CCO. Plus he's making £1m+ pa on lecture tours, so i think its unlikely he'll want a return to the front bench (in opposition anyway)

edam · 18/10/2005 23:24

Suedonim, I've actually met Liam Fox and (IMO) he really does come across as an oily creep.

suedonim · 18/10/2005 23:57

Eeugh! It must have spoilt your day Edam! Unctuous - is that a good word for him, too?
