Which leader would you choose of the 4?

OP posts:
lilibet · 19/10/2005 19:31

Why do you think we want a Tone Tinker?

Why would anyone wnat a Tone?

not a Tory Blair!!

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 19/10/2005 19:32

er, so you can win an election??
he's quite good at that....

sis · 19/10/2005 19:38

Tony Blair did not hold any ministerial positions before becoming PM - if he only became an MP in the early 1980's, he would not have had the chance as the tories were in Government at the time and stayed there until Labour won in 1997 and Tony Blair became PM.

Tinker · 19/10/2005 19:38

Yeah, but Labour won despite TB. Think Tories will need to change a little more than their leader before fantasising about winning elections again.

sis · 19/10/2005 19:40

Shhh, Tinker, don't tell them how to win the game!

Tinker · 19/10/2005 19:43

sis. Hope you're well, will try and email you soon to cath up.

sis · 19/10/2005 19:57

Okay Tinker - good news on the pensions today!

Tinker · 19/10/2005 19:59

Yes, I know! Only 19 years to go

edam · 20/10/2005 09:12

Btw, just want to clarify - it is Liam Fox who reminds me of Leon Brittan. And unctuous is a v. good word for LF too (thanks Suedonim).

Not a fan of Tony Blair's but can't see any resemblance to Leon B!

I'm not a Tory either, just interested in their leadership contest...

buffytheharpsichordcarrier · 20/10/2005 09:29

oooh, sorry I misread that. yes I thought the TB/Leon Britten thing was a little off field. I mean Leon B has not only been smacked VERY hard with the ugly stick, he's also just he sort of person that you would not leave alone in a room with your children, right?

JanH · 20/10/2005 10:15

Blimey - David Cameron had a column in the Guardian from 2001-2004. Did any of you know that either???

He is certainly not a boring Old Tory.

Yes sis you're right of course he wasn't a minister - I meant that he was the shadow spokesman person?

I read that today janh - joey ramone?!

lilibet · 20/10/2005 12:58

Been reading those all morning when I should have been working

Really like him after reading them.

twinsetandpearls · 20/10/2005 15:52

I am not a tory voter but David cameron seems to be the choice of the day , a very good article about him in the Independent today painign him as a real man who may not ahve had much life experience in terms of a career outside politics but he ahs certainly experienced life and is a better man for it.

I have been reading a lot about Cameron lately and think I could vote for him but unfortunatley if you get Cameron you get the rest of the tories as well.

twinsetandpearls · 20/10/2005 15:54

The article is here the full version only for subscribers.

Nightynight · 20/10/2005 19:28

I cant get worked up about it any more. Lab, con, lib, theyre all the same.

just out of interest, who of the Im-not-a-Torys on this thread is ready to admit to having voted for Thatch in the 80s?

I did, but cant see myself ever voting tory again. I know too many people in the party.

He's the only one that's close to Blair in the charisma stakes, that's why. He's a bit of a porka though

JanH · 20/10/2005 23:19

Not me, NN

OP posts:
sis · 21/10/2005 13:17

NN, I'm with ks on that one too.

chonky · 21/10/2005 13:23

twinset - it's a very good article isn't it? I have to admit to suppressing a parp every time I hear someone say that David Cameron hasn't had much life experience/ has no idea of life away from his ivory towers and members only clubs.

He IS scarily young though

foxinsocks · 21/10/2005 13:25

chonky! I was just thinking that on the other david cameron thread

though, of course, everyone entitled to their own opinions!

tortoiseshell · 21/10/2005 13:26

I feel so sorry for DC's wife. A lot has been made about the fact that he has 2 children, one is severely disabled, I believe she is pregnant with their 3rd (though I might be mistaken there) and he wants this job! Given his age, surely he could wait a few years till the kiddies are older!

JanH · 21/10/2005 13:26

A Conservative person asked on R4 last night about Cameron's "out-of-touch" background - public school/Oxford - said rather snippily "it didn't do Tony Blair any harm"
