Petition is here if you are against the Government selling off large areas of England's forests to private developers, who may turn them into Centerparcs type resorts or golf courses.

PETITION

If you want to know which are up for sale, there is a map here MAP

We are in Wales rather than England and the threat here is the Assembly's plans to cut down forests in order to build giant windfarms :(

ChildofIsis · 23/01/2011 16:22

Just read your thread, thanks for the alert.

Have signed.

nannynobnobs · 23/01/2011 16:50

Done. I hate this sort of thing. You can't come back from it in our lifetime or our children's if they go ahead.

scrappydappydoo · 23/01/2011 17:01

Signed - our local forest is on that list - it is packed every weekend with all sorts of people - it'll be such a travesty to see it go or be privatised

BellaMagnificat · 23/01/2011 17:41

Done. And have forwarded on also.

Thanks, Lily Bolero. Just signed.

Done. I'm also involved in our local campaign. This should never be allowed - not least since it could actually be considered theft as we, the people, already own it!

Hammerlikedaisies · 23/01/2011 19:45

Of course we do! They've got such a cheek! Angry

pooka · 23/01/2011 20:02

Done.

Is a bloody travesty. How dare they sell woods and forests that belong to the British people?

pascoe28 · 23/01/2011 20:53

As I've said on the other thread on this topic, I wholly disagree with MN campaigns with general and with this one in particular and will not be signing.

I think the forests should be sold asap and the money used to reduce the deficit.

Private companies should be able to exploit these resources (creating/saving jobs and wealth) and, for those that wish to visit the woods, entrance charges should be introduced (perhaps with reduced rates or free access for OAPs/unemployed etc).

I'm sorry but the age of having other people pay for your hobbies/likes/past-times is over.

LilyBolero · 23/01/2011 20:59

pascoe, this isn't a MN campaign, but I'm highlighting it on here so that anyone who cares about this can sign.

If you don't want to, fine, don't sign. However I can't agree that it would be best to sell them in order to reduce the deficit, and that entrance fees should be levied. That is indeed the logical conclusion of what would happen on selling them, but it would be a very sad day when you had to pay in order to walk in the natural heritage of your own country. Sad

There are a great many things that could be reduced first - for example Trident. I note they are not selling off the grace and favour homes enjoyed by Cameron, Clegg and Osborne.

BBC report

A FB page explaining whats going on with lots of links to find out more

Apparently the sell off won't raise much money anyway (in the greater scheme of things). It is tory policy not to have woodland in public ownership.

Sad
Hammerlikedaisies · 23/01/2011 21:59

Thanks, Woollyjo.
