I felt very shocked when I saw it and quite upset to be honest. I really hope she has learnt from her, well I am loathe to say mistake as she did it on purpose, bad decision.

Do you know her lou?

IAmReallyFabNow · 14/01/2011 21:23

Of course there is only one side of the story as she isn't posting. Are you suggesting I am making it up?

And it is not difficult to know what happened. I was there and have said what exactly happened.

No I don't know her personally at all. And no , I am certainly not suggesting you are making anything up OP.

maighdlin, 'Indepdendent Midwives do not need professional indemnity insurance'. Hmm Sorry but this is a twisting of the facts. IMs are not able to get indemnity insurance - the insurers have decided they won't insure independent MWs because there aren't enough of them to provide a decent enough 'pot' of money, should someone decide to sue one of them. The government decided recently that Ind MWs needed indemnity insurance to practice but since they can't get it, it's along the lines of attempting to outlaw them. There may be light at the end of the tunnel if recent developments follow through, I think.

A very few Independent MWs have made very high profile mistakes or bad practice and the media seizes on these cases to highlight the 'dangers' of hiring one. I hired an Independent MW and think it was one of the better things we've ever spent money on. I actually have never come across anyone, in RL or on here, who thought any different about their own Ind MW experience.

Incidentally, an ECV done at home or without ultrasound could be very dangerous, but one done in hospital by a trained practitioner, who uses a scan to establish the safety of the procedure (and won't go ahead if there are any concerns) is thought to be far safer than the risks inherent in having a section for a breech baby, or even going ahead with a breech vaginal birth. My baby was breech for a while and we planned an ECV and would happily have gone ahead, had he not turned three days before! Smile

You are aware that your section scar could have ruptured anyway, regardless of the fact that she turned your baby?

It can rupture due to pregnancy, or during contractions.

Saying that, she had no right to do that against your wishes. I would have complained to a higher level than the NHS MW, tho.

IARFB - what sort of technique did the IM use to turn your baby?

IAmReallyFabNow · 15/01/2011 12:50

differentname - I am not saying her turning my baby caused my near rupture. My point being that she should not have turned my baby at all in my house and if labour had started there would have been a big problem.

GoldenVoice - no idea of the technique. She said could she feel the baby and within a few minutes said "there, I have turned baby."

So did she apply pressure to your abdomen, use moxi candles, get you to do a headstand? Was it painful, did you feel the baby turn? Was baby back-to-back or breach? It seems odd that an IM would underatke a clinical proceedure in your house, so I'm wondering what exactly she did...

IAmReallyFabNow · 15/01/2011 17:29

No condles, no headstand Hmm. Yes, it was painful and i did feel baby move.

She felt where they baby was. Pushed and then said she had turned the baby. I knew she had as he had been lying across all day and was now head down.
