14th January 2011 - (from Brisbane) - 15 dead, 120, 000 homes without power, 1000's evacuated and not yet able to return home, peak was slightly lower than 1974 peak, thank goodness, but little solice for those already under water. Anna Bligh says 'a clean-up of post war proportions.' Please donate any amount you can to www.qld.gov.au/floods/donate.html it only takes a few seconds. Thank you!

@Mazfah - a lot. You might feel you donated tons to Pakistan, and that maybe they aren't as generous (or wealthy?) as you are, but when victims are facing loss of life, children being orphaned, it is really quite uncivilised to carp about whether they "deserve" donations in return.
@Cjdamoo - your 8 year old did a wonderful thing. Please tell him I said so. He is a credit to his mum.
@Eidsvold - thanks for drawing this to our attention. I have relations in Queensland. They are ok for now but I can only imagine what devastation some people and families are going through. Kids losing parents, parents losing children, for some not even a week's worth of food or change of clothing to draw upon. Will put info about donations on Facebook.

@Mummyelk - I don't know the logistics of organising it but could you offer to have them or kids over to stay with you for a short respite, perhaps. You could organise a whipround among relatives, friends and neighbours to pay for flights? Just really an idea as I haven't had any experience of this kind of thing. Just thinking that it may be nice for her to have her kids at least out of an environment where the shops aren't even stocked and there's no electricity or clean water in some places....obviously needs brainstorming with your own family as to how to help. Am told the airport is still working fine, the main thing being whether people can get to it or not.

Wow. What a mess. 16 dead now. Tragic tale of a man who watched his fire truck flip, his wife and 2 of his sons drowned and teh only thing that made him hang on to the tree was the fact that his other son was also hanging on. That little boy still doesn't know that his mum and 2 brothers have died in the floods. Imagine having to tell him.

Sorry to raise this again but Queensland is being hit by further rain and storms, Toowoomba is under flash flood warnings again, the water is rising again in some flooded areas (although it's helping to wash the mud away in others).

Not only but also - large areas of Victoria are also flooded.

Insurance companies are doing their best to avoid paying out wherever possible - even people who have flood insurance may not have been covered for "riverine" flooding, as opposed to storm and flash flooding.

Please, if you can donate anything, please do. This is the Red Cross Appeal for the flood victims in both Queensland and Victoria. Every little helps.
