GP surgeries contacting pg women about Swine Flu?

BubbaAndBump · 28/12/2010 13:03

Is it just me (and every pregnant woman I've spoken to in the past month) who has not been contacted by my GP surgery nor midwife team about getting the seasonal flu vaccination?

It's driving me mad that, every time the lack of a campaign comes up on national news, there is a health professional saying that those at risk (i.e. pregnant women) have been contacted and we're making the decision not to get the vaccine?

If you are pg, have you been contacted?

I am 29 weeks pregnant and I also have not been contacted at all. I have never in my life had any type of flu jab but hubby and I decided it best to contact GP surgery and request for one. We managed to get an appointment on 24th and luckily for me had no side effects. But at least I can be a little less stressful. But to answer you question no no one contacted me to come for my flujab.

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 28/12/2010 15:13

hpa advice regarding pregnancy and flu jab to back up what you are saying - that pregnant women should be having the jab.

nancydrewrockinaroundxmastree · 28/12/2010 15:14

I am 30 weeks and have been contacted by both the surgery nurse and my GP.

FannyLogan · 28/12/2010 15:15

20 weeks, no contact

OhYouSnowySnowyKitten · 28/12/2010 15:15

and another link with more details as to why it is important.

pozzled · 28/12/2010 15:16

I wasn't contacted, I had to approach the surgery myself- and when I did, the receptionist didn't seem aware that I was entitled to the flu vaccine. I got it sorted easily enough but then when I had the jab the nurse was also surprised to see me. So not much encouragement from my surgery.

gallicgirl · 28/12/2010 15:29

Exactly the same as pozzled for me. Surgery didn't seem to be aware that pregnant women were classified as an at risk group, although it was early November when i had my flu jab so the campaign had only just kicked off.

faverolles · 28/12/2010 16:38

I'm contacted every year for a flu jab, as I have asthma. This year though, I'm pg too, and wasn't contacted at all.

I rang the surgery, spoke to a receptionist, who told me that as there was such a huge expected uptake on the jab this year, they hadn't sent out letters Confused.

BubbaAndBump · 28/12/2010 17:10

My surgery normally uses text messages to message you for routine check ups etc, but didn't, which is why I get so wound up when I hear that we're all being contacted. I've had mine, fwiw, and when I mentioned that nobody had contacted me, they didn't seem surprised.

So only nancydrew so far on this thread...

This is interesting. Andrew Langsley was on the news this morning denying that they had made any changes to the policies. It is clear that they have.

DS1 has asthma and in all previous years has been contacted to have the jab, this year nothing.

I am Angry because almost every other person we know has some sort of flu at the moment.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 28/12/2010 18:05

I haven't had a letter from my GP, but when I popped into drop off a urine sample I did notice a sign up saying pg women should have it.
My MW recommend I have it but only after I asked about it!

I was very Xmas Hmm at Andrew Langley - as I had a letter in January inviting DS (2.1 at the time) for a swine flu jab - and on the letter it said they were recommending it for all under 5's.

31 wks and not contacted but I requested after DP was bedridden for 3 days with it

SantaIsMyLoveSlave · 28/12/2010 19:14

31 weeks and not contacted, or even had it mentioned at appointments. There may well be a sign up at the GP's surgery but I haven't been in there in the last six months. One woman on the Feb 2011 due date group actually went to her GP and was told that it wasn't suitable for pregnant women Shock.

Vicbic · 28/12/2010 19:24

Exactly the same as Pozzled and Gallicgirl for me. I'm 21 weeks and wasn't contacted - called the doctors' surgery and the receptionist was unaware that pregnant women were entitled to it. I got it in the end though.

lunafire · 28/12/2010 19:32

20 weeks here and not been contacted at all or had it mentioned to me at any of my appts so far. I think it's terrible really given the high publicity that's been given to the jab in the media...you'd have thought someone at the practice would have seen/heard the news at some point in the last few months and mentioned it in a meeting so pg ladies could be contacted....but personally I'm not that bothered as I've decided to not have it and it saves me the hassle of declining it LOL

Wigeon · 28/12/2010 19:38

20 weeks and not been contacted. However, I rang the surgery the week before Christmas to ask if I could book an appointment for the jab and they said they were organising more appointment slots but didn't have any yet. However, they rang back the next day (think it was the 23rd) and offered me an appointment for tomorrow (the 29th).

They did say they would be writing out to pregnant women once they had organised the new appointments.

BubbaAndBump · 28/12/2010 20:12

It's not looking good for the GP surgeries is it?!

zippy539 · 28/12/2010 20:19

DS and DH both with asthma weren't contacted - they usually are.

mummylittlegenius · 28/12/2010 20:21

I was pregnant last winter in the height of SF hysteria. I'm also asthmatic and I never got an invite for the swine flu jab.

Then I got swine flu (confirmed by swab).

When I had my asthma review this year the Dr lectured me about having the flu jab, I've still not had an invite though!

bitclueless · 28/12/2010 20:28

I think some of you ought to get this into the papers - clearly Lansley is either misinformed or lying Hmm. Its clear that you can't just leave this up to GPs - some will bother, some won't. Strange how vaccine uptake is really low this year when they abolished the publicity campaign...

wigglesrock · 28/12/2010 20:28

I am 33 weeks pregnant and had my jab 2 weeks ago. I followed it up myself with the GP surgery and midwife at my 28 week appt. Had to sign a million bits of paper before I actually got the jab.

aBrightStarWithFestiveWays · 28/12/2010 20:29

8 weeks pregnant here and no contact from surgery. Going to ring them tomorrow to ask about it.

BubbaAndBump · 28/12/2010 20:36

Not a bad idea bitclueless, although am a bit clueless as to how I'd go about it.

BubbaAndBump · 28/12/2010 20:36

I'll see if it picks up speed a bit first...
